Wolf, edit that damn post!

What I meant by I will not change my stance above, is in regard to my decision to not release a free mp component for BCM if in the end I choose to do so

Now I'll have to load up and go try to find the ships I lost there. Good work, SC. Idaho Hey where've you been?!?! You missed out on a lot of fun.....and as usual, controversy Yeah, that Sygan Triangle problem was a real problem. It was as difficult to reproduce reliably as it was to fix. Had to implement a whole new camera system (from BCG) to solve it.
  5. New trailer is up. Whoa!!!!
  6. quote: Originally posted by Wolferz: will ther be an animation for that finger thing? Yes. It will be a new gesture in BCG In fact BCM has several mp gesturing animations. See for example the character .INI files in the modelsanimate folder to see the list. quote: Originally posted by Serondal: How large is the sphere of protection? Not sure yet, but it would be large enough to cover the entire MFB as well as leave area around it for units (personnel or whatever) that happen to be outside on the terrain. So, imagine being chased by a bunch of hostile goons and you're hightailing it back to the MFB. All you'd need to do is enter its ADS area of protection and you'll be safe. quote: Can you shoot out of it from inside? No. Except from that ramp portion you see. Entering the MFB is the same as entering a station/base (ALT+D to dock). There is no fp view because no internal levels are supported in BCG. [ 01-10-2003, 04:50 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  7. There was a discussion over in this other thread about the MFB. Here is it from concept to completion and in-game integration. I will release some higher res shots next week when Jason completes the Intruder gunship. The MFB is mobile (as you might have gathered) and can be driven and parked anywhere - including under water. It serves the same function as a regular station or base in that it has cargo space, units, repair, rearm, medical facilities (like the supply stations) etc. It has a built-in regenerating Area Defense Shield (ADS) which protects anything within its sphere of protection (when activated). This means that you can pretty much be within the sphere (will post shots when the fx are implemented) and give the hostiles standing outside it (and probably firing at you) the finger. .....until they breach it. hehe Only shuttles and the Marauder gunship can tow it It cannot be stored in the cargo hold because its too big, measuring 15.0m H x 23.16m W x 55.71m L And to prevent that problem of crazy gamers grabbing this baby and running all over the planet with it, each side only has one - and you can't drive it unless you have the prrequisite rank (from EPs and kills). I suspect that you'd be playing on a server for about an hour or so before you even come close to gaining enough rank (via EPs and kills) to drive it. This means that whereever I place it on the map, is where its likely to remain for sometime. Of course devs/testers with proper server access can override this and take control of it. So, gamers are going to have to defend it even thought its twin turret guns and missile launchers are AI controlled. It has no shield (except for the ADS which does the same thing I guess), only 15000 units of armor protection and goes at a slow pace of 30 mps with a PRY rating of 1,1,25 deg/sec This unit does NOT rebuild. So, lose it and you'll have to wait until an engineer (personnel or marine) player repairs it. Oh? there are no engineers on the server? Well then, I guess someone is going to be committing suicide and respawn as an engineer class then. MFB 1 MFB 2 MFB 3 MFB 4 MFB 5 MFB 6 MFB 7 MFB 8 MFB 9

Did you see any such entry in the VCF?
  9. quote: Originally posted by Fractux: However, my question is, how do you compensate BCM buyers who don't see things in the same light and feel that they were "cheated" into buying BCM, being promised multiplayer. I suppose my only question is how you will deal with that? They weren't cheated into buying anything. BCM shipped without multiplayer. Like any other feature that got cut (and some later implemented via patches), it was just another one. If the $10 rebate that Dreamcatcher has generously offered is not good enough for them and they don't believe that all the FREE updates (apart from bug fixes) that have gone into BCM is not worth $19.99, then thats their problem. Not mine. The box and the game EULA are quite clear in this regard and I think my first post in this thread is quite clear too. Why then do I find myself repeating this again? My stance is NEVER going to change, no matter how many variations of the question are posed to me. I didn't release mp into BCM because it wasn't ready nor good enough for what I had planned. Even though BCM internally was designed from the ground up for multiplayer it is a huge game and being my first foray into multiplayer, I didn't like the results. I changed my design and ideas in order to focus on a common solution across my products. This was a design and development decision and I really don't care about what anyone thinks. And even if I had released a Beta of mp in BCM, that would have just caused more harm than good. Lets put it this way, even if BCM Gold was not being released, I would still not have considered releasing BCM multiplayer before BCG is released. And even if I did, it would have been in the BCG demo (which will support multiplayer). The mp in BCM was tagged as a freebie. I have the right to rescind that offer as long as what is in the box and what you paid for is what I delivered. I am under no obligation to abide by anyone's wishes. I don't see anyone *****ing about all the free features that have gone into BCM since it was released in Nov 2001. You can't have it both ways. I made a decision and I'm going to stick to it because I know that it was the right decision to make.
  10. hehe, its getting there - and mp is gonna rock

And anyway when you see the first person who starts talking he is in an EB store. You look all the way on the left of the screen, you can see a whole bunch of BCM games on the shelf. I think it is really cool that I saw this. I normally dont realize things like that. Anyone else see it? hehe, I'm not surprised (at the units on the shelves), I was just talking to my EB rep about sales the other day and BCM is selling strong and in fact, EB will run out of units later this month I think and that will be the end of the first gen BCM release (since no more will be manufactured).

I do like to play XTension occasionally, so I may spring for X - The Threat. Has anybody heard anything about Elite 4? uhm, try to stay on topic. This is not the thread to be discussing other space sims.

  15. Deleted Please read my post above and comply accordingly or I will simply delete the thread and forget about it. When I ask for steps, thats exactly what I need, exact steps and that includes jump target, waypoint target etc etc.
  16. btw, the 3DGamer's server has been refreshed with the new patch refresh, even though it still shows yesterday's date on the server page. I've asked them to update the date on the page to today's date.

I got there when I collided with the Floating Supply Base *I call it that* the thing that marines go to, to rearm and repair and medical stuff.. So why is it when I collided with that I was sent into Nullspace? bounced off it most like ly Yep. Considering how fast he seemed to have been going

  20. Its perfectly legal and its happening because you are trying to use the same system to do two different things - and one is taking precedence. Post the exact steps (no, what you posted above doesn't even compare to what I need) to reproduce this reliably and I'll see if there is a way to prevent you folks from doing such silly things.
  21. Well there goes the neighborhood! Anyone remember the days when you could buy a vinyl album and make a cassette tape to play in your car, steroe etc without fear of the death penalty?
  22. The newly re-designed Dreamcatcher website now has both BC titles. Here is BCG and BCM Gold Pretty cool, huh?
  23. Yep, confirmed bug
  24. quote: Originally posted by IceCold: You have reached the limit of the scripted sector as a result of some game malfunction. To return to the sector you left-enter the flux feild labled "real space" Wrong Nullspace is a perfectly normal place to be. In fact, it works like hyperspace. You only end up in this region of space if you go outside the boundaries of the space region. You can stay in there for as long as you like and can leave whenever you feel like. To enter nullspace, you simply have to fly off any edge of the region i.e. go to tacops and set a wp at the extents of the grid, fly to that waypoint and keep going straight. Since the world is true 3D, you can fly off the edge in any dimension in XYZ space.
