  1. It sounds like a resource conflict. Since you said it's been worse since installing DX8.1 it sounds like the conflict is coming from a driver (or drivers) that are not fully DX8.1 compatible. I would also check you hardware, check for loose cards. I had a bunch of wierd problems like that and it turned out that my video card had come loose and windows was reassigning resources everytime it detected it. I'm with rtoolooze on this one. Don't worry about it too much until you install WinXP Pro. If it still happens after that you may be right about your mobo, or other hardware.
  2. I saw it yesterday afternoon. I thought it was the best movie I'd seen in a while. I was so wired when I came out I was up half the night. I'm leaving for Ft. Benning next week. The Rangers and Delta operators portrayed in the film are the best soldiers in the Infantry, the ones we aspire to be. If you have not read the book it is a must read. The movie may have been violent, but I thougth the book was more so, and neither can truthfully convey how violent the real incident was. The reviews keep saying the movie is about a boched operation or a battle we lost. But when just over a hundred men fight for 15 hours, come out with 18 dead, and leave no one behind, that's not defeat, that's victory. Regardless of what you think of the politics that brought them there.
  3. You do swear in when you go into the DEP since you are, at that point, technically a servicemember in Individual Ready Reserve. However whether or not $ilk has sworn in to the DEP is a mute point. There is a manner in which to seperate and he has thoroughly researched it as he stated on a seperate thread. As someone who is prior service and going back some of what has been said sounds like whining. But, I respect his decision not to go foward. I am also of the (radical I admit) opinion that if he is married he never should have been allowed to enlist in the first place. I think someone in an early thread, who may have been quoting, said something like,"Combat is a young man's fantasy and an older man's nightmare."
  4. quote:I think you should get out of your ship and push I tried that, it didn't work, seriously. It looked kinda pretty when it finally blew.
  5. quote:True. I just wish there was a deal where you could pay a bit less for the second computer, and a bit less for the third, etc. I don't know about WinXP but with most MS software you can just call them (or do a web search, probably cheaper) and just buy another EULA, so you could use the same copy of the software on multiple machines. Also, If I remember correctly, maybe I don't, doesn't WinXP Pro come with a license for more than one PC? [ 01-13-2002: Message edited by: Bringram ]
  6. The cockpit pics are incredibly cool. BCM is already my favorite game and with XP1 I may not ever bother buying any other games. But has anybody noticed that the is just the list for XP1?How much cooler could BC be?
  7. Post your tech support issues in the Tech Support-General issues forum. The members of the community are very helpful, but only to those who help themselves. One of the best ways you can do that is attention to detail. If you look at the headline for this forum it says "Game Related-Not for tech support." So to directly answer your question: No don't post it here. When you do post give as much info as possible. What were you doing, what were you trying to do, what did you do right before it happened, did it crash to desktop or lock up?
  8. Thanks SC. Yeah I do know what the SEAD targets are. I'll try just using SAD. Haven't had a chance to try it yet since I've been messing with the patch. BTW Thanks very much for all the hard work you've put into this. I am very green in this game but I won't be for long, it's too addictive.
  9. This has got to be because of a bonehead mistake but I have to ask. I followed SmileyMan's instructions for base destruction. The only problem is once my EFMs are on the ground I click on each one, click on (left click I think) "supress enemy air defense" and they just stand there like a bunch of idiots. Has anyone else seen this? It's not the AI 'cause I tried it again after using the playmod cheat for AI. On the other hand I used a super carrier and launched all my fighters and they did pretty well. Only one fighter damaged, base 50% destroyed
  10. quote:5) There is no one past me in tech support, even for unique problems. 6) I have no boss that you may speak to. 7) There is no complaint department for you to call I worked level 2 tech support for an e-commerce site for nearly two years. I can tell you from personal experience- (5) is bull***t. If he was compitent then he should have been either able to solve your problem or ask someone that could (and called you back personaly.) (6) & (7) are complete and utter bull***t. He probably had a supervisor a few feet away and didn't want to bother getting up. I had a couple of customers ask to speak to the VP of Customer Service and had to give them the address. I had AT&T for cable and dial up service. It took me 2 days to get through to someone just so I could cancel my service. I was so tired of waiting just for spite the first thing I did was say, "So you're the only one working today? No? I need you're supervisor." I wouldn't let the little snot talk after a couple of minutes she transferred me to someone else. I don't know if it was really a supervisor (I used to just hand the phone to somebody else in my group most of the time) but all I really wanted was to ruin part of their day, since they had ruined part of mine. I know that it was mean and juvenile, but I didn't get my sig for nothing.
  11. If it would be as easy as writing a letter then if I were you it would get done in a heartbeat. Most people in my family thinks I'm nuts for going into the Army, especially when were at war. But that's the point, that's why I'm going in. I left a job at an e-commerce company with good benefits and am putting off finishing college until my enlistment is up (my recruiter told me that I would have time to study on the weekends but he also told me the sky isn't blue). When I was trying to make my decision one of my best friends told me some of the finest people who serve their country are not in the military. I think someone on this thread said something like that and I do believe it's true. Good luck with what you decide.
  12. $ilk. I sort of understand what you're going through, although I am not a family man and never will be. I agree with everyone who has said, stay with you're family. If you go into the Marine Corps your wife will become your second spouse. You will go through the toughest training, get some of the longest, hardest deployements, and since you have a family, miss alot of birthdays, aniversaries, tucking your kids into bed at night and a host of other things. You have to decide which is more important. You're country or your kids. I understand the reservations that were in your first post about the support the military gets from civilians and our government. And you're right sometimes that sucks. But if you work for any large corporation- or sheriffs department- that has any bureacracy you will see the same thing to a different extent. I was in the Marine Corps when I was young and dumb and now- after Sept. 11- I'm going into the Army. I leave at the end of January. You also have another problem that could be a big one. It is unclear to me whether or not you have actually enlisted. If you have, have been sworn in, and signed a contract- then you are obligated to go. If you turn around and say you don't want to it's a little hard to get out of it. The Marine Corps has always been hard-assed sometimes to an etreme. Technically if you're contracted and then say you don't want to go and don't you could be charged with desertion. They probably wouldn't send you to jail but it would make it hard to get some jobs- especially law enforcement. So (and I'm sorry this post is so long) if you haven't contracted I'd say "see ya sucker" because it sounds like the recruiter is an ***hole. On the other hand, if you've contracted you need to have a long chat with you're wife and then the Station Commander- not an NCO recruiter. Hopes this helps.
  13. quote:What about just taking your CC down onto the planet and dealing with the base personally? Just fly your heavy cruiser into the atmosphere and strafe the thing with some real firepower. Then let your marines pose infront of the burning rubble and make postcards I tried that and got my *ss shot off. Although, I haven't gotten to the point where I can use OTS, or tried to do it cloaked the whole time. Come to think about it, I am a heartless bastard and wouldn't care if my crew glowed in the dark afterwards.
  14. When I was reading up on the game, lurking on the 'boards and praying nightly for BCM to come out I envisioned a super carrier with 75 to 90 aircraft (about the same as a US CVN) plus like 1500 Marines one board that could land by shuttle. Or a small, fast, heavily armed ship like the Defiant on Deep Space Nine. It would be cool if, in some future add-on, there was the ability to add to(not design altogether) or customize your ships. For example pay for an upgrade to add more shuttle bays to an armed transport or replace your shuttle bays with fighter bays.
  15. quote:Originally posted by Gustavo: BTW, is there any special planet or moon with few bases where I can practice a little? thanks for helping : ) I am a complete newbie myself. I've been targeting an Insurgence base on Mars. I deploy all of my Marines teams in OCs, with 4 L Fighters flying SEAD and 4 remaining fighters flying CAP. All 12 craft make planetfall at the same waypoint and then split up to their targets (never more than two ie one primary and one secondary). Sometimes I try to use my CC to fly high CAP, ie I will make planetfall about 10 miles away and target the enemy aircraft myself. Haven't tried OTS or figured out how to assigni my Marines to teams yet, since my focus on the game has been space combat. One important factor is that the NPCs will only due what they are told, specific actions at specific waypoints. The last strike took my twenty minutes to plan and was over in five. My Tac Ops screen looked like a plate of noodles b/c I had 50 waypoints on it. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Bringram ] [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Bringram ]
