  1. well, i am pretty sure it's something specific to my computer at this point. i think i'll uninstall, delete folders and reinstall and repatch. Then i can try it again and update you. at this point i do have the latest patch installed, just so you know, i had upgraded it from the rc7 patch the other day hoping it would make the problem magically go away. also, pugwash stated a couple of times that i had successfully joined his server...a couple of times, and i just wanted to say: I did what now? i joined a server, but i thought that was being hosted by $ilk. at least i figured it was his server just because he had recently posted that he had a server up, and there was 1 server up at the time. however, i wasn't the administrator for that server, so i guess i have to take your word for it. heh, i'm kinda confused. i'm leaving again, big cell bio conference at the moscone center in San Francisco. i'll be back online...later and i'll reinstall and all then. also, i really need to add my specs to my profile sig. i'll do that later too, i'm late!!
  2. i'm not sure what a tech ticket is, and i'm kinda busy tonight, but i'm happy to do whatever to get it working...should i set the password to "password" and leave the server up all evening while i'm out seeing The Last Samurai? that way at least people could try to join and possibly notice that my server won't take the word "password" as a password. well, seein as i'm leaving...NOW...nevermind, i'll do it tomarrow.
  3. well, i deleted the ini and ran server config again, and i'm getting the same problem. also i installed the new patch.
  4. firs off, thanks for moving this post. I was infact looking in the wrong ini file, but now i just checked bcsetupmp.ini and password is set to nothing. Is it looking for a value of zero?
  5. crud, i posted this in the wrong place...but i don't have the power to move it. now someone's probably going to hit me. woe is me!
  6. wow, i was really off topic with my last post here. just pretend i don't exist i guess
  7. i have witnessed this on both lan games and internet games and was wondering if i was doing something wrong or if you might know of a reason why it would be doing this: when i host a server i make very sure that there is no password, yet when people try to join, or when i try to join my own game via lan games in game browser(i know it doesn't work, just doing it to test) it prompts for a password... you can't get past the promp because there obviously isn't a correct password to type in. i'm not suure how i got past it on lan, maybe i hosted on my other computer, but i seem to be unable to get past it online. things i tried: 1. restarted server 2. set a single letter password "t" (still prompted, and wouldn't accept the password "t") 3. typed my wan ip into the server config field marked "server ip" 4. uncheck the box marked "dedicated server" (what does this do? aren't all servers supposed to be dedicated?") 5. checked the .ini and there was no password set 6. checked my router's config for the 12th time, (everything was in the right place) 7. restarted server again ...any ideas?
  8. i know i'm not extinct_reptilia but i don't wanna start a new thread so i'mma post a question here too. i think this was mentioned briefly before, but i can't find it for the life of me with the search feature: if i'm putting new modles into the game, does a higher poly count make for a greater strain on the processor or on the video card?
  9. you have to disable the station and then dock with it right when it gives an SOS signal. it's hard to do as they have a tendency to explode before you can dock. not that hard though, i've done it plenty of times. did i mention that it says this on page 66 of the manual? planetary bases can not be captured yet, give SC enough time and he'll probably add it, but i wouldn't nag him about it.
  10. firt off, you should have posted this in the "Game Builder System, Cheats, Hacks" section. also, if you had looked around a bit more or possably tried to search feature you would have seen that there is a full tutorial written out in the forum archives by SC himself. how nice of him huh? hope that answers your question, and for your sake, i hope you don't get smacked.
  11. it's not the same, a planet can't very well wander around the server looking for battlecruisers to bludgeon to death with sto missiles now can it? No, a planet has to wait for the battlecruiser to come to it, and if that battlecruiser is planning to launch ots missles, then it won't have much time to act. even if both parties launch their missiles it means that 1 person can destroy a whole server full of players with a good shot on his lucky day. doesn't sound balanced to me. note that in modern warefare there is no balancing, you would probably be hit by a 2000lb bunker buster bomb before you ever saw your enemy. i think i'll pass on that as a multiplayer war simulation thank you. do i have the wrong definition of balancing? it seems kinda like a vague idea to me and it might be the root of all this disagreement.
  12. you remember the ion cannon in the original command and conquer games? well, bush WANTS one of those things.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: includes plugins from MAX 2 to 5 for exporting models to the .3D format. would it to be too much to ask for a simple nod of your head to comfirm whether or not this means i will actually be able to use max 5? just to clarify so i can start getting excited without worrying about getting my hopes up. I thought you had no plans for supporting max 5, and it's the only tool i have any sort of access to. aww, what the heck...WOOT!!!!
  14. wow, i had always been really really irritated by those things. i guess it's kinda nice to know that at least it wasn't created by some corporation as a way of getting people to trick their friends into looking at adds and then (in turn) to send adds to their friends too. it's the perfect marketing tool, an electronic chain letter with built in advertisements. free add space that people will distribute for you in an exponentially expanding fashion. wish i had thought of it first. remember to celebrate your consumerism this december
  15. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! *pop* -eww, brains all over the keyboard! who exploded this boy's head!?!?
  16. hmm, checking game version...: 1.09.00 now the VCF...: 1.09.01 damn well, should i just drop it and wait for UC? because that's what i was doing anyhow...not to mention i should really be working on my essay that's due tomarrow morning
  17. i'm pretty sure this is a bug of some sort due to it's nature, and i hope you'll forgive me for my lack of deatails because i have been neglecting the problem in anticipation of playing UC instead. my game (BCM) came across a problem a while ago. i had been out for a while in roam mode in my stormcarrier and had aquired some wealth from a good number of battles, so i stopped at a friendly station for some repairs and some upgrades. i'm pretty sure one of the upgrades that i purchased was a numega and after my ship was in operational status again i departed the station shortly to install my numega and maybe one other upgrade (i think this is how it happened, it was a while ago) anyhow, i returned after it was installed, finished other repairs and went adventuring again, no problems at this point. the problems arose a couple jumps away as my CE's ai level reached the point where he could suddenly auto assign engineers to repair systems. i guess he wanted extra practice or something because systems started to damage themselves at which point he would automatically start to repair them. specifically the navitron computer was damaged to 50% and after being repaired it damaged itself again. i watched this happen about 3 or 4 times and the problem affected a couple other systems too but navitron is the only one i remember for sure. at one point i docked at a station to have it repaired and as soon as i undocked it was damaged to 50% again. now this seems explainable enough to me because i know there is a lot more going on in this game then i am aware of, for instance i think i read that the hacker class can do this sort of thing to you, however, in my defense it took place over a very long period of time and over a couple different space regions/systems so i'll leave that one up to your judgement. what i'm sure is a bug is the fact that when i docked the first time on the nearest station to repair my navitron i noticed that i had somehow aquired (apparently out of the vaccume of space) more then 65,000 numega upgrades to suppliment the one i had already installed. i found that i couldn't trade these upgrades at the station unless i loaded a fiew of them on a shuttle and did cargo runs, they seemed to take up a normal amount of space everywhere but my main cargo hold where they appeared. anyhow, my last hour or so of the game was spent going back and forth in a shuttle becoming extreamly rich while my CC floated next to the station repairing it's navitron computer over and over. after that i got depressed because my character was buggy and i decided that rather then start a new one i would wait till UC. when i stopped playing i had 65,469 numegas left in my ship's hold
  18. S.C., is it really so wrong that i think you may just be the greatest person on earth? you know that i don't think there is another software developer out there that is actually as involved with the fan base as you are(unless your counting obscure mod developers). for the most part they all hide in their offices and live off of surveys for information, and i always lie on surveys.
  19. heh, i think this discussion was finished a long time ago, i hope you aren't paying too much attention to us anymore S.C. because i can assure you we aren't contributing anything relavent at this point. just repeating ourselves.
  20. i think the issue here is communication, i get the feeling S.C. is already thinking of doing what we have all been screaming about but he doesn't use layan's terms to describe it so you guys get freaked out and make more quake analogies. which by the way, i'm sure S.C. knows what you're talking about when you say "the standard for fps games" you've just got to realize that this game has about a million years of simulation thinking behind it so S.C. is arguing from a completely different perspective. i think our culture is about due to upgrade it's standard form of communication to telepathy, i swear it takes me forever to get an idea across in words, look at this post for instance, i've been typing it since i registered for the forums 2 years ago.
