  1. yeah sorry, I got real sick the other day. I'll try to be more prompt in the future. glad to hear it's an actual bug though for once
  2. quote:Originally posted by Shingen: Is the AE supposed to incur radiation poisoning on the surface of Earth? I noticed this as well. yes it is, he will also get an infection sometimes. this can happen no matter where you are in the universe.
  3. you might want to check the "level" in your drones. if you goto tactical/SC#/drone/# you will see something that says level in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I believe this is there charge or something, I don't have my manual here at work so I can't tell you right off. but I do know if that number hits 0 the drones get blown up. or at least that's what seems to happen for me. I don't watch my drones generally. also the drones have a much bigger range than they used to. deploy them WELL into the mainland, as they don't like water very much also make sure that they are not making explosives from the materials they mine. I don't know if this will kill a drone but I do know it will mess up a CC pretty bad
  4. Mail sent to both of you. Since SC never specified if he wanted it or not he gets left out
  5. This picture should explain it all... *deleted* I hope it does anyway. yahoo seems to change access rights to briefcases every time I turn around. if you can't see it I'll just email it to you. How it happend... I was doing some ground ops and got bored so I was raming my shuttle into stuff (mostly the ground, going after a few horses )and getting it repaired to increase my engineers AI. however I forgot to remove my OC when I was doing this. When I looked at my OC I saw that the armor was at 119%. the engineers insist that I should repair it but I kinda like it where it's at also the game saves and loads normally so it's not file corruption, well at least not serious file coruption anyway. oh, and I have a saved game of it. just tell me if you prefer zip, rar, or ace. 6. I was walking around on earth a LOT I mean I set my drones down and walked around playing with some of the toys at Space Base 01. after I was done jet packing and landing on every structure there I went to tacops to check on my drones. well they were full so I decided to check on my crew. I noticed I was infected. So I went to the closest supply depot I could find. I went through the medical procedure and docked at my CC. I checked the tactical computer again and it said I was still infected so I tried the supply depot again, but still I was infected. so I again went out and tried the other supply depot at that same base. and yes I was still infected. so I went back to my CC, and sent my AE to the medibay. I used a vaccination and the infection finally went away. according to what the supply depots say, they should be disinfecting the user. however they don't seem to be doing that. also it would be helpfull to indicate somewhere on the hud of your AE that your infected, radiated, etc... I'll see if I can get radiated and try the depots to see if they de-radiate you successfully.
  7. ah yes, I too have this problem but it goes away if your inside the funnel.
  8. A few things you guys can buy... Systemsuite 5 system mechanic these 2 apps are the best I've found the first one allows you to defragment the hard drive according to when the file was last accessed. So it put's recent files close to the center of the hardrive thus allowing for some outrageously quick load times. In this case dramaticaly reduceing the stuttering when the game loads something new. The other one allows you to defragment, and recover your ram. it's AWSOME it will recover about 100-200mb after the computer starts up. that means you will have that much more space to store models and other crap UC loves to load. and it will also recover the ram from a crashed program (like UC) so you don't have to reboot to get your performance back. they also have some other nice features but these are the most used for me. like systemsuite 5 also has an antivirus app, but the best part is no subscription fees, free upgrades. also the other one has a registry defragmenter/cleaner, and some other things to optimize speed. you can buy them from wall-mart and best buy, they are quite common. another good app (and it's free) is the CPU moniter from sysinternals. you can see EVERYTHING that your cpu is doing, loading registers, etc... you can find out just what UC want's from the CPU, and see if you can do anything to help. their file and registry moniter is good too. UC doesn't do to much with the registry but it does have it's way with a bunch of files. you can use this in conjunction with system suite 5's defragmenting. another handy tool is a file date setter. again for the defragmenter. you can find that as freeware just about anywhere on the net, just google it. sorry for plugging those apps but they helped me TREMENDOUSLY, for UC's stuttering. and thought I'd share. if you only have money for one I would get systemsuite 5 for it's defragmenter. it's like a night and day difference. then if you use the filemoniter and date setter you can fine tune your hardrive even more.
  9. simularity I was in my storm carrier I decided to attack this fleet of battleships and a carrier floating on the surface of earth. I got a little too close to the aircraft carrier, then when I tried to turn away it was stuck on my CC. I alt-e'd and shot the carrier off of my CC, no harm done. also if it helps, the carrier stayed facing the same direction while I turned.
  10. you may have noticed that ships in the sci cast don't even have a research officer. so even if you found something to research you couldn't. I wish the unarmed casts had more of a role than hiding and trying not to be noticed. I have clocked many hours in unarmed ships though. the best unarmed caste to be is the paramedics, practicaly nothing will attempt to kill you, but your own stupidity of course (my worst enemy, lol. ) tractor beams are your only defense so keep your tractor beams online at all costs. even if it means shutting down the life support systems. after you tractor them take them to a station for EP's. Or if your like me I'm not in it for the fame so I drag ships through the water, drop them in stargazer or any other hostile planet, and even let them go over my friendly bases and stations or my favorite! I jump out of my ship and jetpack on to the top of my CC and run to the front of the ship. Then I tell my SC that has an tractored enemy to escort me. he will then take and fly real close multiple times, as I calibrate my guns on the tractored ship or if I'm in a hurry i'll just tell the sc to halt and shoot the tractored ship. I make them wish they never even targeted me How embarased would you be if you were in a storm carrier and you had to explain how a single person with a handheld gun blew up your multi-thousand-trillion-billion-gazillion-billion-million X 6 ^ 54 doller ship with out you causing a scratch of damage to the person the best way to tractor big ships (pretty much any CC) is to send more than one shuttle after it. Large ships like the storm carrier sometimes require little more skill than that. the trick is to use your CC as bait. you must be able to judge how fast your CC is when hyperspaceing, as well as your SC's. once you do this you must first hyperjump the the storm carrier with your CC then jump your SC's at just the right time. the end result is that you want your CC to arrive milliseconds before the SC's do. the AI seems fascinated with CC's and as a result will go after your CC and ignore the shuttles more times than not. do some evasive manouvers to minimized the lasers of the enemy, but have no fear, it will not last long with 4 SC's after it. note: in UC there seems to be an AI upgrade, they go for the closest ship. so as long as you keep your CC in front, then when the lasers start flying let your sc's loose. by the time the enemy notices the SC's it will be too late. you also might want to change milliseconds to just plain seconds up above, simply because of the random-ness of the arival points of your SC's
  11. If you prone (X key I believe) you can scale walls at any angle. it's kinda cool on those civilian sky scraper things to just sit half way up the wall and wait for a bad guy to come along... "What the..." *boom* you can also hang from the bottom of ships this way too. and also from the sides. looks freaky to see a guy plastered onto the side of a SC holding a gun oh and to get it to work you can't run at the wall, just push forward and it will "snap" you on to the wall. Some ships (and the rare building) you will have to jump on top of them go prone and go over the edge, with a little luck you will be stuck on the side of the object. but most you can just crawl onto the wall. I don't expect a fix or anything but I just thought I'd mention it in case it got transfered to UC.
  12. you know the yellow mining drones that wander around the planet digging up minerals. is it possible to add more of them to a ship? it would be cool to have a mineing ship in the game with like 10+ drones. and lot's of cargo space.
  13. well I actually use this as a defensive manouver. if a ship (most likely fighters) arives at my destination while I'm still in hyperspace I do a 180 in hyperspace because I know the AI's default behavior is to move towards me. thus when I arive I will have flown past them and am now situated with the main guns pointed at their thrusters and then they explode
  14. I have a pentium 4 2.53ghz and a radeon 9700 pro and the game actually runs too fast! it seems there isn't a frame rate limiter in BCM I was wondering if you could put one in? if not in BCM at least put it in a future version. it's expecially noticable if you land on a barren planet, time flys (great for mining operations though) I remember years ago when elite taxed the fastest of computers. ever try runing it now without a CPU slow down app? just tapping on the throttle sends you past 3 or 4 planets in .0000000000000000001 seconds. edit: updated sig is all [ 04-18-2003, 05:47 AM: Message edited by: ouch ]
