  1. I was working on one with BCMG, but decided to wait until UC was out. Been thinking about it lately and I think you just sparked me to it. DL'ing as I type it's, purty slow.
  2. I never pay too much attention to the "basement" here at 3000AD. It's quite scary down here. Perhaps I'll bring a flashlight with me next time.
  3. Nice story Are you sure that was a vacpak you were "huffing" (lol!)
  4. No guests in ROAM, I think they are used for the ACM campaign.
  5. They are in the shots folder. File type Targa(TGA). It's a standard format. WinXP has a picture viewer that will show them. If you want to convert them then find a program that will do it (most all you find will).
  6. gnowor... When you die so does your saved game, so whatever slot you just loaded from is DEAD, Use another. If you didnt save to another slot then start a new career. It's always been this way.
  7. Learn to use SAVE & EXIT boys... use those slots!!!! It'll save you a lot of anguish.
  8. Gammulans start in their own star system, so in that case you would have to go looking for them, but it won't be hard. Yes, it is conceivable that you and your buds could mount up in search of your Gammulan friends only to be acosted on the way, but that just adds to the whole experience. Imagine one of your mates getting damaged and being disabled, you could assign another teammate to tow him back to a station or planet for repair, or he could order one of his own shuttles to tow him to safety. While his ship is being repaired, he could take one of his fighters and STILL travel with the rest of the group. You cannot choose where to start playing when using the normal game setup route (other than based on your race/caste) as there are default starting points. I imagine (and if, as I believe, it's supported) that you can create a custom scenario and start players where you decide. If all your teammates choose the commander career and are all Galcom, then you'll all start within very close proximity. So it's not like you'll be randomly spawning all over the Universe. You seem like the type that enjoys egaging, deep gameplay, well you came to the right place. Once you and your LAN buddies have it all figured out I'm sure you'll all fall in love with this living Universe. PS. I was a big Tribes/Tribes2 player for a while too. For comparison, while the FPS implementation in Tribes is faster and more focused than UC, the scope of UC is waaaayyy beyond that of Tribes and even Planetside. The genres are very distinct. UC has much more of a "reality" feel to it mostly due to it's vast size and scope. It is definitely not arcadey. One more tip...you need to add your system profile to your signature (sooner rather than later). There's a sticky around here that gives you instructions. 9. Race: Human Planet: Earth Age: 39 Spouse: none Offspring: none Occupation: Application Developer Hobbies: Computers (of course), reading, camping, hiking, 4-Wheeling, gadgets, electronics, painting, playing music Other: Space cadet born 1000 years too soon/alien in disguise
  10. I'd like to set one up, but have some homework to do about setup on my LAN. I'm behind a NAT router and even though other players logged on, I was unable to. Read the FAQ about this and need to find a way to host an internet server and connect to it using the public IP (versus through my LAN which I know is impossible). I'm not as knowledgeable with networks and subnets etc... but if it's possible I'll put one up.
  11. Well, I have little experience with multiplay, but I'll try to give you a vague idea. You won't have any trouble finding each other. You can choose which race/caste to play. This determines what "team" you are on and who is your enemy. You directly control your commander in all FPS situations. It's up to you if you want to use him that way. I don't believe that other players can take roles on each others ship. Best to have each player with their own ship and operate as a fleet. You could for instance have half of the players go Gammulan and half go Terran Military. Within each group you could have some players as ground force/naval and some as space etc... I believe you can also create custom scenarios/scripts for multiplayer. The easiest way to explain it is that you are provided with all the tools to play out your space fantasies. Your imagination is the only limitation.
  12. I had this for a while, but a combination of defrag (several and using a third party defrag) and -preload all but elminated it. I still get some big pauses when observing a planet the first time, but once it's cached it's ok. I also noted that with preload UC uses 750mb of ram, so if you have less than 512 you might not want to use it. BTW I tried to unzip the sound files and deleted the zips, but then I'd get no sound effects at all.
  13. The only diff I noticed in 1.00.02 was that I used to use the arrow keys for external camera panning etc... but now it only works using the arrow keys from the num pad. An adjustment, but not an issue, although now I have no idea what the regular arrow keys are supposed to do (and frankly it doesn't matter since I haven't lost any abilities.)
  14. I noticed it too. Sometimes if you fly close to them they disappear. It's a minor deal to me, but I did just switch to BITMAP contrails vs Particle...I think the bitmap trails look better.
  15. If you save and exit select different slots when you do. This way, if you die, you can always revert back to the prior save. I keep the top slot for my latest safe saves and use the others for when I'm about to do something stupid.
  16. quote:Originally posted by Scrivener: 2. Real planetary umbrae... so you can see from space if your about to ingress into the dark... it would also provide some spectaular Kodak moments. At the moment planets are pretty well lit from all angles... it's the one thing that bugs me the most about BC/UC games. And you can't just make a texture for it since planets rotate in real time =(If I'm not mistaken, the reason it works this way is so that regardless of your approach angle you arrive in the atmosphere above your first waypoint. I like it this way. As far as approaching on a dark side. I have done it. Fly to the moon nav point, then plot a waypoint on Earth in a dark zone and HJ in. Your approach will be on the sunless side of the planet and it is shadowed. Of course if the waypoint I set was on the sunny side, then I'd go from a dark approach to light atmosphere. But I'd rather that happen than have to fly the thousands of miles between entry on the dark side and my first waypoint on the sunny side.
  17. Well, you could go planetside to a zone matching your race/caste and you'd be left alone. The zones are huge so you'd have plenty of room to fly around. You can still use all the systems only your waypoints would be cities and buildings instead of gates or star stations (no HJ of course.)
  18. Got it from 3D Gamers Utah server. Worked for me. As someone else stated put the downloaded patch file in the UC directory before you execute it!
  19. Yup, the first pod I picked up was loaded with goodies. Unfortunately they aren't all like that. Usually to start, I sell off Iridium (no need for cloaking now), all my ATA/ATS weapons (No ground ops planned for a while) APM Radix (10x22k a pop who can resist?) and a few misc things. So instead of starting with 75k I start with over 800k. [ 02-10-2004, 10:51 AM: Message edited by: Grizzle ]
  20. Hey Bunny...make sure you use the same moniker in online games. You know, so's we knows who 'ta hunt
  21. Well...I just got out of my first real firefight and oh boy!. Up til now I've just been dinking around, mostly on Earth, but I just took out a Spacestar and two fighters. So no problems with damage here. In fact, I really knocked that Spacestar for a loop, he made the mistake of letting me get broadside and my PTA's ripped him apart (that and a well placed missile or two.) The first fighter went down rather spectacularly too, right off my bow. I was trying to slow down so as not to overshoot him when he came right at me, I let loose a missile just before he passed and it immediately did a 180 and got him up the exhaust pipe...that was sweet.
  22. UC isn't all that different Cougar, I'd go for UC too.

  24. Hehehe...use TACOPS to set waypoints on the sunny side of the planet. When you click on a zone and zoom in you can see if it's dark or light. Set your waypoints, move away from the planet (at least 1000m) issue 'resume waypoints' engage AP it will then HJ and do planetfall. Voila! [ 02-09-2004, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: Grizzle ]
