  1. Papi, Crimson rocks! Was your "I like it" a sly reference to indiscipline?
  2. They should rename that site from "Computer Game Chronicles" to "Computer Lame Chronicles". It's obvious neither of those guys has the mental faculties to even begin to understand the complexities of BC. In an age where so many people complain about the sacrifice of gameplay for graphics it's a shame that comments like theirs have the capacity to turn people away from the prime example of gameplay over finesse. BC is truly a diamond in the rough, a "real" computer game that rightly deserves it's spot among the classics of all time. I don't have any complaints about BC because I "get it". It has accomplished something that so many have promised but have miserably failed to deliver. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on games over the years, but I can think of no other game that actually delivered on all the hype. BC kicks ass and so does Derek Smart.

  4. I can't believe none of you have suggested this as I'm sure it's the cause... TRIBBLES!!!
  5. Derek is the TRUE "Tenacious D"
  6. Can I tell you something?...You look mah-velous.
  7. I found the very first tutorial was all I needed to get me on my way. It teaches the basics and gets you going, the rest is up to you. Sure, there is a lot to learn about this game but I think one big common mistake is thinking you need to know it all from the get-go. This isn't true. All you really need to know is how to pilot the craft, set waypoints on planets and how to engage enemies. Once you've got that down you'll have time to explore the myriad of other options. I for one haven't even begun to deal with Planetary battles but that's just one more dimension that will make the game even better. Relax, don't let the amount of information and things to do scare you off. One of the greatest things about this game is that I can pick a destination, begin my journey and am guaranteed that something exciting and challenging will happen on the way. Exactly what a game of this type should do. You don't need to know everything there is to know to enjoy this game. Just play it with the basic knowledge and the rest will unfold as you continue to explore.

I've been hearing "PC games are dying" for almost as long as PC games have been around. It's not going to happen. Consoles suck, period. I've played consoles since the days you could buy PONG only games to hook up to your TV. In the last few years I bought a Dreamcast and an XBOX, I've played about a total of 8 hours on both of them combined. The games "simply lack ANY depth and the controllers blow chunks. Don't listen to the naysayers, PC games are here to stay. There is plenty of room in the market for both PC and console games. Of course, this is all just my opinion, but as I said before, the "PC games are dead" rant has been going on for ages and they're still here and are TONS better than any console I've touched.
  9. OMG this game kicks some serious a**!. I've piddled around with the BC series since BC3K, but could never get beyond the learning curve and some er...um "other" issues. I picked up BCMG and WOW!, once you get past the learning curve (which as it turns out seems a LOT more daunting then it really is) the depth of this game is just astounding. So many things to see, do and experiment with. This is one of those games where I think "I'll fire up BC and play for an hour..." many hours later after having blasted numerous enemy ships and fighters, exploring some distant regions, mangaging my crew, repairing and or replacing ships and systems, checking out planets, getting the crap scared out of me etc... I'm shocked at how much time has gone by, it's 4AM!. Elite?...whats that?. BCMG should go down in history as the be-all end-all of massive space sims. Derek deserves every ounce of praise he has gotten. As far as I'm concerned, any of the negative reviews/opinions about this game are totally unwarranted because when you peel back the facade and peer inside, oh my what a Universe he has created. One of my favorite moments so far was when I was in a heated battle, ships kept coming out of nowhere. I was doing very well, when all of the sudden I take a few big hits, Bridge destroyed, Flight deck destroyed, other minor systems damaged (maybe some of my shots hit that friendly station and they hit back). I cloaked and ran like a chicken to find the nearest planet to land on for some repairs. I soon realized I had no control over the ship since the Bridge had been destroyed and auto-pilot was locked on. It was too late, I was commited to planetfall and could only pray that the auto landing would work and I wouldn't crash into the surface in a ball of fire. It worked and I eventually got a shuttle deployed and was able to jump in for a run to get repair materials (that in itself was a challenge since the ship was so badly damaged). I only wish I hadn't been sitting on the surface when I ordered my fighters to return to base, apparently they don't know how to avoid crashing into the ground when trying to dock.
  10. Sent the saved game to your tech support email. Thanks for looking into it. P.S. Don't laugh about my negative 7000+ experience points...I'm trepidatious about venturing out too far.
  11. Add me to this list. I was afraid I would have a problem when using Alt-Q failed to exit the game, so I tried a quick save. Now I can't restore my original game. I've tried all of the things listed here and it's a no go. Get's as far as "game loaded OK" then when it's time to display the graphics I get CTD. New games and other restores work fine. Oh well...it's a shame I lost all that time, but I imagine I'll start a new one since the game is so awesome (Thanks Derek!), I just hope it's not a regular occurence. Running BCMG at 1280x1024 32 bit everything, music off, effects on. [ 05-08-2003, 03:19 AM: Message edited by: Grizzle ]
  12. I run the baddest ship in the Universe... GCV Lollipop Bringer of Doom striking fear in the hearts of all who oppose her!.
  13. I know it's still in beta (I signed up but apparently drew the short straw). My question was more a result of JaxFox's post saying something to the effect "alot more to add". I'd guess with the newly expanded beta it must be very close to gold...any input?
  14. Isn't it supposed to be retail in a month or so? How "Beta" is it?
  15. Mouse flight is awesome. Best single improvement to the gaming interface if you ask me.
