On more thoughts about this issue, I think Politicians, Lawyers, Lawenforcement etc.. have the most to worry about this. Can you imagine getting a reading on some high ranking government official when asked about the UFO coverup. Oh yeah.....

Well folks, looks like detecting lying has gone the next step LIAR LIAR . But it does have big social rammifications about it's uses and that of future devices being thought about. "Perhaps one would need only point a sensing device at people ÔÇö making it possible to test someoneÔÇÖs truthfulness without their knowledge. ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖre interested in covert detection of prefrontal activity, where the subject may not be told the experience is occurring. ThatÔÇÖs in the future but it is possible,ÔÇØ he said. ÔÇ£Obviously, there are ethical problems.ÔÇØ Critics agree." EGADS!!!!!!

From techlive.com (techTv) DirecTV has sued more than 15,000 people for allegedly purchasing "smart card" technology used to steal its TV signal. DirecTV insists it's only going after people who buy from pirate websites, but the cards have many legitimate uses, and people who bought the technology may not even know it can be used to grab a TV signal. Who's right?

Besides I don't think it's all the hardware but the software that's used to operate the hardware it's probably Windows Mobile Edition which could be the reason why the scooter can't balance even with skimpy hardware .

quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon IV: Unless you've been under a rock, you all know that Rockstar is releasing a GTAIII/GTA:VC bundle on the Xbox in early November for 49.99 This is fairly big for me since I'm still licking my wounds over the PC release which i bought on the release date and would not play on my rig, despite two patches and several thousand curse words. Just wondering if anyone has any idea how well this game can be ported to the Xbox and whether or not there are any new goodies. hmmm, I have Vice City for PC and it works great. What's your system? Well there's a story behind my Vice City purchase too (not the game companies fault). I picked up the copy from Gamestop got home went to open it up and I noticed that the rectangular tape seal had been retaped over by a circular one. Well I didn't think anything of it until I went to install the game. Got 75% done with the install when the setup flagged me asking to put the disk containing Data4.cab. Well there is no such file. Went to Vice City home page and they did list error as being a bad burn and to return it to place of purchase but had other things to try also like updating the firmware of the cdrom drive which I did among other tweaks to try to get it to install (cause it could be a copy protection problem) no deal. Well I looked at the read surface of the CD and noticed tiny scratches on it. Well only conclusion is that someone else had this disk brought it back because it didn't work and them bums just repackaged it for the next sucker which was me. Not only that to add insult to injury I went to buy the game because it was suppose to be on sale for $40 not $50 but the guy in the store said they hadn't recieved a communiction about the sale yet. Well I've been wanting to play this game so I picked it up anyway grumbling of course. Oh yeah and it turns out that it was there last copy at that particular store. Took me two Gamestio stores to find one with a replacement copy. I dunno about you guys but ever since Software Etc became Gamespot it's gone downhill. I use to love that store but now I'm highly pissed off at them for that repackaging and sale snafu not to mention at myself because I let my guard down about checking the box seals. I did write to the main headquarters of Gamestop. Well of course their response was an appology and that they don't repackage their games that are bad and that they are in the process of updating their system network from DOS to windows (sheesh they still use DOS) which could explain why they didn't notification about the sale (well don't the stores check their own website). HAH is all I say.

quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: hey all, I have been losing interest in the gaming scene as of late. Not sure if it is the job or life, or time, but I know that I still want a good game to play, so I guess I'm not totally gone. I've decided to download some demos of games, including among them back to my old roots rpg's. Which is when I first started playing real games. First game I was really interested in was "Contra" for nintendo, amongst others, but the ones that stuck out were the rpg's final fantasy for gameboy and nintendo come to mind. so I'm looking for some rpg's to buy. That'll let me know for sure if I'm totally gone For the last few years my interest has been open ended games or space games based on franchises, like star trek, star wars and fps games. some demos I will download halo Neverwinter Nights anyone recommend any demo I can try? also any games you are currently playing or have recently played that has stuck in your mind. the last game I've played was Jedi Outcast which I thought gave me a lot of good fun...but Academy was lacking and its just the same thing as Outcast. universal combat seems to me to be a winner, too bad I only have modem access to it can't be even more of a winner based on multiplayer...but the single player universe seems awesome. They say no credit cards no pre order, but I have an arrangement for it to be sent in pending release. some guys I am looking at too SW: Knights of the Old Republic SW: Galaxies (even though its online only it sounds interesting) and my experience with darkspace with my connection was satisfactory. let me know I get like from time to time. I call it game burn out . Anyway, try Mace Griffin bounty hunter demo that game seems good as far as I can tell from the demo. Also LOTR:Return of the King demo very good. As for me, what I'm really looking for is a Space game (like StarFlight) where you travel from planet to planet system to system just exploring. Scanning planets to see what the enviornment is like and it's resources and going down to collect specimens and resources to be traded for profit or kept just in case you need some down the road and while doing all this uncovering a plot to the game.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents worth in. Warning, if you are 18 and over don't go to first three links . Oy vey, three posts in a row... Common guys help me out here so I can at least have one space between my posts . Anyway, got my hands on another little gem that I came across on the old trusty site theunderdogs. Star Trek TNG:A Final Unity. Wow, this is a major blast from the past. Reminds me of all the hours I spent playing Space Quest and ST:Judgement Rites. Believe it or not this trek game is actually quite good the only draw back is the SVGA graphics (yes I know I got spoiled). But I'm in the process of playing it now and I keep saying to myself "why can't they make games this good again but in true 3d". There is Bridge Commander but that game just was okay. Oh yeah, it's a dos game. check it out STTNG:Final Unity site 1 STTNG:Final Unity site 2

Here's the part that amazes me "taxes be applied for downloadable games and online services". How can they tax these intangibles and people just sit by and let that happen. I'd go revolutionary if they tried that here in NY. I have DSL so I need a phone line (which I have anyway) this is how the bill breaks down. Verizon Basic Local Services: Surcharges and Taxes: FCC line charge............ $6.44 Local Number portability... $0.23 Federal Tax................ $0.77 NYS&local Tax.............. $2.23 911 Surcharge.............. $1.00 Federal USF surcharge...... $0.64 Surcharges................. $1.42 ^(It's a surcharge for the surcharges ) And this is tax just to have a phone line it doesn't include the surcharges and taxes for the calls and the optional services. I don't see a tax for the DSL service however (yet). I'd be damned if I pay more tax on downloads or online services (I am assuming they mean online services as in game servers etc..). I can understand the 911 surcharge but as it stands the way it is it's still a government racket taxing the phone as it is.

"A news item on Sony Online's official sites for EverQuest, PlanetSide, and Star Wars Galaxies has a reminder that a value-added tax has gone into effect that will be added on top of its subscription fees ($12.95 to $14.99 per month, depending on the game) for those who live in European Union countries. Recent changes in EU tax laws require that taxes be applied for downloadable games and online services at the point of consumption, that is, in the country where subscribers reside. The 17.5 percent tax will be applied to residents of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom." All I can do is shake my head in disgust. I hope this country don't get that idea!!! If it does, I'd say time for a good old fashioned tea party!!

Makes one wonder why he's giving it up. I bet the place is probably infested with an alien roach breed that keeps setting off the intruder alert system .

Sorry for the double post but the time ran out for editing the previous post by the time I found out some info. Anyway, yes it was Trade wars for the galacticom BBS system. The New York based BBS was like this Galacticom BBS. Also check out this site TRADE WARS

quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: I used to play tradewars on the old BBS system, that is how I ran across BC3K, because I was looking for a game as detailed as Tradewars was, except BC3K had much better graphics, LOL. I have an original buggy Take 2 copy, and 2 unopened CD's of BC3K, as well as 1 unopened copy of Battlecruiser millenium. Yeah, I like to support the SC when I can afford it!! LOL What unsigned!!! You should have SC sign them they become alot more collectible that way. I wonder if it's that's the BBS game I've played. There was a BBS OS called Galacticom if I remember correctly and the selling point for that pay per month BBS was a space fighting/trade game text only but I can't remember the name of the game.

Thanks for the link and for the tip about playing the plot. quote:Originally posted by Scrivener: Just discovered this program that works like a dream when it comes to running older games. At the time, the copy protection was a decoder ring. Some games didn't have them. You know what I still have the Earl Weaver Baseball and Knights of Legend for the PC. Box and all. Yeah they were good in their day.

Well I guess you can figure out by the topic title what it's all about for the games of the past that were damn good (and still are even as time passes) or were damn good and slipped past out attention and never got the recognition they deserved and have come and gone without a whimper. I'll start off with this little gem I found yesterday on the-underdogs.orq and downloaded and played a little of it called Hardwar 1998. It's actually really cool. HARDWAR. The OS the site states for this game is DOS but it's not it's for windows. The developer The Software Refinery is outa buisness and the publisher Gremlin was bought up by Interplay. But the game is still with us . The only thing your missing from the downloaded version is the FMV and the MUSIC.

X2; The Threat rolling demo out

Yeah, even though there aren't many space sims, at least the ones we are getting will last for dozens of hours. And after UC and X2, there will be BCO, and the developers of X2 also want to make an MMOG space sim version of X2. And let's not forget, besides the gameplay hourage, these are not just any thing that's slapped together and called a space sim but HIGH QUALITY SPACE SIMS!! Speaking of game hourage hopefully, X2 will be moddable adding even more game play life to the game. Also, there's another Space Sim in the works also, which I've posted about some time ago, StarFlight III. A fan made game, in progress, with help and guidance from some of the original StarFlight development team. Go here STARFLIGHT 3 and give them support just by visiting the site and maybe sending an encouraging email or two to the teams. They also need from time to time programers and such. So if ya got the skills with that send them a resume' . -
quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Anyone remember the Falcon 4 source debacle? Anyway, and so this goes on and on and on and on.... Nope didn't even know a thing about it till now even though I do have the game. Ah, why don't they just give this thing a rest already sheesh. Even if according to the statements on that site the game was not finished, who's buisness is it other than Valves, Vivendi and their finances. Sure us Half life fans will be dissappointed we have to wait a little longer. What would rather have a unfinished buggy game that came out on the promised released date or wait a month or two for a perfect game?

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Most: Yeah i hate to turn this into an argument, but lets look at the facts too. If the guy who wrote that would sit back and think for a minute, one of the biggest points that i think has already been made is HOW could that happen. Quite easily. There was a serious lapse in security on Valve's network and this happened. And I know exactly how it happened because I've been going back and forth with Gabe and co in the past few days as we in the dev community attempt to figure out if our (mine are fine) systems are compromised similarly. This conspiracy theory is a load of bollocks. Nothing more, nothing less. Conspiracies aside, I'm sure I can speak for every one here (I think)in the BC community that we are 100% behind them and their game and look foward to whenever it is released. And thank them for taking the risk and working their butts off putting together an awesome looking game. I myself am sure that this game is going to be a great seller and smash hit irreguardless of the source code fracus. Since you are in contact with them maybe you can pass these sentiments along to them I'm sure they can use it being that they are feeling violated not to mention the heat from all sides about this.

quote:Originally posted by Sebbish: I agree with this post from PlanetHalflife: quote: Yargh. I've had it up to here with you crack pot high school kids and dumb **** conspiracy theories. No company would ever, ever, EVER do something like that. See Illcons post above and take note of the getting sued potential. Has Valve ever had a problem delaying games? Hell no. Has delaying a game ever hurt them in sales? Hell no. If they wanted to delay it because it wasn't done, they would just delay it. Much like they did on the 30th (maybe the leak played a part in this but Steam is by no means in a working state yet, regardless of the leak Steam has to work first). Go back to predicting the end of the world by the way your shit floats around the bowl (or possibly the way it lies on the ground next to it judging by your screaming ignorance). The source was leaked. Valve didn't release it as a "smoke screen". Any one who says otherwise has an IQ less than 4. Why wouldn't Valve simply say the game is delayed? Releasing the source code on purpose would be a lot worse than just saying the game is delayed and dissapointing some people. But, I guess there will always be conspiracy theorists (that stupid Fox moon conspiracy comes to mind ). Taking into account the way companies are operated nowadays anything is possible. And for this guy to say conspiracy theorists have an IQ of 4 is dead wrong. Most conspiracy theorists look at all the facts including the subtle ones and base their and make suppostitions on that. We do not come to our conclusions willy nilly or take anyones statements at face value. Take this for example: "The delay is bad news for VU Games, which suffered a 29 percent fall in revenue and an operating loss of 52 million ($61.36 million) in 2003's first half and was betting on swift holiday sales." Okay here's the plot. Suppose Valve developers found a major bug in the game or some other engine problem(pre source theft)and know they need to re-write or tweak a good portion of the game's source code (don't forget that Half Life 1 was delayed for a year because of the game engine too). Both VU and Valve are already in financial poo poo so what better than to come up with this scheme of source code theft by a hacker(s) to keep the creditors or whomever off their backs about the financial returns(the original source code is important yes but as far as a 100% working game engine it's worthless. Consider it more of a beta code) until the game is ready to go. Hackers get the blame Valve and VU are in clear to put in a delay and both companies can wipe the sweat off their financial faces. If the guy who wrote the above article looked at all the facts he'd probably come to same conclusion. Most of us, me included, could care less about the leaked source code (not that most of us could do anything with it anyway). I am getting this game either way. I just love a good conspiracy . Either way this really sucks. I wanna find those hackers (if they're real) and beat 'em with a baseball bat. I myself am more partial to the conspiracy part of this whole thing. Only a third of the source code was swiped? Hmmmm.... And without all the other support files not much anyone can do with that code except look at it. As MOST has stated " like they knew they weren't going to be able to put the game out on the deadline they created. So they came up with a "not our fault" scenario so people wont be too pissed off about the delay." quote:Originally posted by Bandus: You ever designed a game using the amount of source code they used for HalfLife2 LostinSpace?
