Oh well, I guess my monitor couldn't handle the news about SED. . Well I've had it for six years and has served me well. It's an Acer 54e 15inch. It started about a month ago where it would, for no apparent reason, go into sleep mode from time to time right in the middle of what I was doing. This morning it just wouldn't stay on. If I leave it off for 5-10 min turn it back on it would work for about a minute then sleep again. I'm using an old 13inch monitor I keep as backup for just such an occasion (good thing I have that fresnel lens for magnification). Anyway time for a new one. I have one in mind I couldn't seem to find an actual hardware review for it but on the store sites most give it a 4 out of five star rating. It's a KDS Xtreme flat crt monitor for $125 here's a peek I might even just go for the 19 inch version of that KDS MONITOR. The company that I linked to is where I buy all my upgrades and they are located in queens NY so me being from Manhattan I just go pick up my stuff and their prices are really good. Anyway, since I've had the Acer monitor for so long I was just wondering if anyone has or has used a KDS. I've seen the company around for some time so I know it's not just a flash in the pan. Any thoughts on this or other monitors. Thanks in advance. For you techies out there. Forgot to mention that if the monitor is not connected to the computer or the computer is off it stays on Green light indication (amber for sleep mode). As soon as the computer turns on or when I'm just about to do something in windows it goes back to sleep. Now is there a way to defeat this sleep mode? Is there a pin on the 15pin connetor that also controls this circuit and if so which one so I can cut it out and try using the monitor that way until I get the replacement.

If you are wondering what SED is, I will tell you. Well most of you might think of LCD and Plasma TV's as ruling the future. Although they are nice gizmos they do have their shorcomings. But here comes SED: Surface-conduction electron-emitter displays. In other words, Flat panel CRT's. That's right Flat panel CRT's. A SED display uses two panes of glass. the outer pane is coated with phosphors, just like CRT's. The inner pane is coated with electron emitters that fire charged particles at the phosphors located just a few millimeters away. The pixel density is much higher than conventional technologies. the whole package may be only four inches deep. SED basically has all the advantages of current CRT technology, including an extremely wide viewing angle and very bright display. The only difference between CRT and SED is that SED does not require electron beam deflection hence massive wall mounted displays can be as deep as your hand is wide. SED's also will not suffer the same deficiencies of a TFT, such as dead pockets, tipping and altitude limitations. Power consumption is also a plus using half the energy of a CRT and 33% of the power of a plasma display of the same size. Toshiba and Canon have been colaborating on developing this technology since 1999 and will soon see products hit North America in 2004. Of course no mention of any pricing. I read about this just yesterday in a tech magazine and the author of the article states that details about all this are scarce and he wasn't kidding I would post some links about this but the ones I did find so far are very vague about SED's. Ah, I'll give ya a link anyway SED

Heck I got you all beat when I was a teen all I had as a video game was pong. If that game didn't hypnotize you into a raving pshycopath killer after a while of monotonous game play and watching that white little box going back and forth, nothing will!!!

Well that is until we finally begin to explore space en mass and some stupid kid decides to try out a few stunts in space that he could do in BC. Like starting and intergalactic incident. Now can the people who own the places he's vandelized with his graffiti sue him for damages to their property? Hmmmm...

A relative of mine ownes a gateway and the damn thing crashes or locks up on alot of games and applications. Anyway, I bought BCMG installed it and whalla it runs with not one hint of a problem right out of the box well except for the multi-player but I bought this game mainly for the single player part and the MP was just icing on the cake . I can name quite a few games that got rave reviews but didn't work straight out of the box but no one paid that much mind why is it that BC gets wacked with thorns on nearly 90% of these review sites? Actually I can come up with a few ideas but why bother.

Just saw the commercial for this movie last night. Didn't even know it was being filmed. It's another ocean going fare starring Russell Crowe. Due out November 14. MASTER and COMMANDER

The first encounter in the woods I stood up while taking many hits killed the guys and looted them and I took alot more than 5 shots. But the sniper rifle is another issue . But even that I survived multiple hits. I think it might depend what game level you select. I have not tried it on hard setting yet but I will to see if the shots do more damage.

I download the demo for this game comming to the US in October. It's a 314 mb file but it was worth every byte of it. WOW it's like HALO, DEUS EX, SYSTEM SHOCK 2 and unreal2 wrapped up into one game. The graphics far exceed that of Unreal. Check it out for yourself CHROME

Which would mean new video cards, Sound cards etc.. you have to purchase. Oy vey!!!

I have used Game commander 1 and have GC2 but have not used it yet. I find the program works good with most games but as was stated there are some words the recognition system does interpret as the same so you must design your training accordingly. In fact, GC1 worked so well for me I had to give it up because everyone was complainging about me because of it (this was family members playing games online with me) and they threatened to stop playing against me . Has anyone used the ZBOARD? Taking the old idea of templates to the next level.

There's a draw back with DSL the further you are away from their network station the DSL signal becomes degraded making a slower connection. I use Verizon DSL and I'm only 1/2 mile from the network station which is excellent in those terms. Hence good dload speeds.

I usually use that site too, but when I try to get the JA demo, it slows down to about 10 kbs. Their Tutaki download client was awesome, it was reliable and high-speed. I usually get an average of 40. My DSL internet provider must really suck. Yea, I tried BitTorrent yesterday also and was only getting 3kbs BIG SUCK!!! But I went and used the first mirror which is what I usually do with good results this was the Indiana(USA) (ftp mirror, courtesy of IHETS).
