  1. Anyone ever seen Band of Brothers? I get the impression Resnig is a bit like Lt. Sobel. Ie. Dragging them out of bed and making them try and fight off armed intruders in their underwear with nothing but yesterdays sweaty socks as a weapon. Wanting his team to be the best but a complete combat incompetent. Either that or he's too busy sitting at his console playing pacman to take note of what his team is kitted out with or doing at the time. *INTRUDER ALERT- INTRUDER ALERT* Resnig: *muttering under breath* "Ah not now, i've almost finished the level" Crewman: "Sir!! We must do something" Resnig: "ARGH!! I lost a life," *quick glance at his perscan console* "... um OK get those 4 to take them on, they aren't doing anything" *goes back to playing* Crewman: But they aren't even dressed! Resnig: "not my problem, they're probably just being lazy ..." *oblivious the fact that 2 of the people he just assigned have just been shot* "YES!! I got a power up!!"
  2. Nice plan! I'm rich!! I found trading armor repair units to start with was a little better, and made more profit on a run than I could on the Hull repair units, as they are a little cheaper and so you can buy more, but still make about 15,000 profit an item. Once you have a few million behind you, get the Hull repair units, as you can then make more profit on them. Although they cost 225,000, you make about 105,000 profit an item, so a full load in a shuttle will make you 35 million on one run. I bought the best upgrades I could get, then while the crew was busy upgrading the CC, I ran off to the shuttle bay, and did a few runs. By the time they'd finished I was 150 million better off
  3. quote: IIRC, Dreamcatcher's European release should've hit the streets since last week. Are you sure its not out in the UK yet? I checked all the stores again while I was on lunch today (Game, HMV and Gamestation), and couldn't find it in the stores. Game say they aren't stocking (Game also took over EB when they closed in the UK), and gamestation, although having it on their release lists say they probably arent stocking (at least according to the guys in the shop, this was a real disappointment, as I chased them for weeks before I ordered from the net). If anyone else in the UK has seen it stocked in a shop, please let me know, as I have a few friends who are interested in getting BCM:G
  4. I've not found any trace of InCD on the system. I trawled through the registry with jv16 powertools and couldn't find any reference to InCD, so looks like it wasn't installed. Hope this helps
  5. Well on SC's recomendations, grabbed the trial of FileCD. Does exactly what I need it to and BC runs great Many thanks SC!
  6. Thats the software, although I got the trial from another site. Never used the software, so don't even know if its any good. It just came up in Google as one of the alternatives to Nero. Be interesting to see if DirectCD causes the problem also, I'm sure I got it free on a CD with the burner (just need to find it amongst all the junk in my room). Well, getting drunk wouldn't fix the problem, but it'd sure make you feel better about not getting BC run. At least till the morning, and the hangover kicks in ... Great game SC, im adding more to my collection of Resnig classics every day
  7. Continuing my tests on this, I tried alchohol 120% as an alternative, and this causes the CD check problem also. Again, uninstalled it and reboot and it works fine.
  8. Well I just uninstalled Nero on the XP setup, rebooted and installed a fresh copy of BCM:G and it works fine. No CD check errors. Looks like this is what is causing this error, for me at least.
  9. Well I confirmed my suspicions. Fresh install of Win2k, Nvidia drivers, SBlive drivers and DirectX9 from the BCM:G cd and the game runs fine, not a single sniff of a problem. I think the clash might come from cd writing software, as Nero installs its own aspi drivers, and when I've had it crash before, it causes problems with other applications. It would be useful if anyone else who's come across this problem could also do this test, as then it wouldn't just be my input.
  10. I have a suspicion that the problem might be linked to a clash with something else on the system. I'm digging out my spare 8 gig hdd later today, and putting a fresh install of win2k on it. I'll give it a test on this, and see if the problem still appears. I do quite a lot of work related stuff on my XP system, so I have a suspicion that it may be something else thats installed that is causing the problem. I'll keep the forum updated as to how it goes.
  11. I named mine the Akamatsu, after Akamatsu Mitsusike, shugo and assassin of shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori (14th century) Thought it was a fitting name for a warship
  12. I too am a long running fallout fan. Played the first one to death, Love the second one (i really must re-install that, and actually finish it this time), and have tactics also (it's better by far if you turn it back onto the turn based combat for that 'original' feel). FO3 would be a dream come true, unless they do something silly and make it an arcade blaster with a fallout name
  13. I still have the silver box as well In fact its almost in mint condition. Also got the re-release gametek version. Had many hours of fun playing it, and what can say, Good one Derek. I've never known anyone keep so true to a vision, even through all the hastles with Take2, etc. Followed the BC story for a long time and used to post on usenet a long time ago. Well been a while, but back again, and as impressed with BCM:G as I was with the original when I got into it all that time back. Every time I see the newest version, it evolves. Keep it up!
  14. I got mine Had to order from the net to get it, as I've yet to find anywhere that stocks in the uk. Gamestation had it on its release list, all the way up to release date, then nothing. Guys said they probably weren't stocking Cant wait to get into it, been a long running fan. Even have the original silver box one that started it all
  15. Well just got BCM:G. Took some doing, ended up ordering off the internet (strategic plus software), as not managed to find a shop in UK that stocks. I've hit the problem with it not picking up the CD correctly when starting the game. I'm running windows XP pro, CD-Drive and the DVD are both recent (6 months for the DVD and about a year for the CD-Drive), and never had any problem with any other safedisc 2 game. Not going to take the CD back, as dont believe thats whats causing the problem. Unfortunatly had to go with SC's original reply to get it to work, which is a shame. Im a long running BC fan, and even have the original silver box version. Be nice if a fix for this problem could be found. I'll test on another PC this weekend, and see if it still gives the same error.
