  1. Already discussed and documented. Check this thread: http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000585.html
  2. A programming new hire (back in 1987) was in a cubicle for a month before being moved to another cubicle. He asked, "How will my email know where to go?" The same new hire was on a team that had regular Friday staff meetings where they took turns bringing donuts or bagels to the meeting. On his turn, they suggested that he bring bagels and cream cheese. When he showed up, he brought bagels and sour cream. He was terminated before his probationary period was up.
  3. An even older space sim/RPG that I played was Sundog: The Frozen Legacy. It was also out for the Apple in the early 80s.
  4. I also don't use any config.sys commands, so you might want to rename it to something else and let Windows default to its own drivers. The command to keep the window open is a checkbox on the program tab on the properties dialog for the icon.
  5. Well, first off, on the SHELL= line, change E=2048 to E=4096. The game needs environment = 4096. Also, check to see that the icon properties match the troubleshooting FAQ settings.
  6. The first non-console computer game I ever bought and played was Crush, Crumble, and Chomp by Epyx on my Apple //e. You played a B-movie monster like Godzilla who terrorized a city until the military and the mad scientist defeated you.
  7. At least you had a picture of your wife on your desk.
  8. Congratulations and good luck.
  9. Just this one. It has all that I want or need. Also, some board games of the AH/SPI type.
  10. I know it's not your birthday today, but I just got the joke. This is why the BCxx games begin on 04/04.
  11. I know...
  12. quote:Apart from the fact that BC3K is not supported under WinME, I didn't see where he said that he was using that OS Right here... quote:I have run it before although it kept crashing on me in the middle of the game in 3dfx mode(that was before the upgrade to win me.
  13. You can stop the missile lock sound by putting your radar in passive mode -- press the R key.
  14. OK. I also have a Gateway. Mine is a P3 550 with a Voodoo3 3000AGP. My soundcard is the onboard Soundblaster 64PCI. You are more PC literate than I am, but the only mem requirement is that the initial environment setting must be 4096. DOS memory above about 590k should be plenty. I've heard of problems with WinME, since it came out a few years after BC3K. Your problem may lie there. Search this forum on WinME for more info on other's experiences. For me, I'm running Win98. After much tweaking, I finally resolved my (different) problems by updating all my drivers, eliminating the config and autoexec, and while the glide2x.ovl worked, I finally got a stable platform without having to use it. I am currently running the BCM beta, so I not active with BC3K anymore. This is about as far as I can help you. Maybe someone with WinME can take you further. Sorry, but welcome aboard. If you are into space sims, you found the right product. I'd suggest you try to get BCM as soon as possible since BC3K is dated (as you are finding out). Good luck.
  15. Hey, after three years here, you gotta ask. Just for kicks, try running without your config.sys and see what happens. Let Windows use its defaults (unless you need your config for something else). Other questions: You patched up to version 2.09, right? You ran the sound setup, right? You are running with the latest mouse and sound drivers, too, right? What's your DOS memory? [This message has been edited by Steve Schacher (edited 12-30-2000).]
  16. First, the dumb questions: Did you unzip the drivers and move the glide2x.ovl in your game directory?
  17. quote:I can go buy myself an island and migrate. Call it Smart Key and rent fishing boats for the rest of your life!
  18. Time compression was removed long ago. Use the command pallete to target your nuke. Select ODS to choose your weapon. Select target to click on your target. Wait until it says target acquired or something like that. Then click on launch. It will take a short while until the nuke travels to the target, but then you should hear some birds chirping...
  19. I resolve to try to limit p*ss*ng off Derek to less than half the number of days in the year or at least less than the number of times this year, whichever is lower.
  20. The true millenium is upon us!
  21. Happy Chanukah!!
  22. quote:Also on the matter of time... does that mean you have to actually spend hours at game time = real time if you're waiting for something to get done? Yes and no. The game is a simulation, not a shooter, so if it takes a long time in real life it will take a long time in the simulation. But there are some things that you can do. If you are waiting for mining drones to finish loading, then go somewhere else and come back in a while. If you are waiting for your crew to rest, the best thing to do is to place them all off duty, dock at a station and make repairs. The repair routines estimate the total time to repair and will advance the game by that amount when you leave the station. Your crew should be rested if your damage resulted in a long-enough repair time.
  23. Crashes on save are also related to your mouse driver. Try updating your mouse driver to the most recent version.
  24. As a suggestion, try using the battlecruiser commands and let your crew handle the details. This will get you moving while you learn the individual controls yourself. Just put the BC on AI Autopilot and issue commands like FLY TO, JUMP AT, ATTACK, and DEFEND. As the crew gain experience they will perform better, but at the early stages you will definitely want to take control at hot spots, and this will force you to learn.
  25. Well, unfortunately, first-hand information is prevented from being reported here because of the non-disclosure agreement binding the beta testers. I would direct you to the Product Info pages for more information.
