I find that after long periods out of the ship can't get my crews working on my fighters. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another step Im missing? Thanks in advance.

I am relatively new to playinng BCM and cannot resolve one mission in particular. Its mission number 4 - for a battlecruiser - when I am supposed to be a support craft for a mission to take over a base in the Eori system. The bases defenses come down and then I am at a lost to resolve the mission by taking over the base. Please any advice would be appreciated.
