Ummm, is your last comment related to the count-down or the localization?

Also in your TACOPS computer, you can select one of the drones as your target, click on the video button twice, and it will display a readout of the cargo for that drone.

4 days to go....

I went into null space last night while I was engaging an ODS. I was trying to match speed, hit the after burner and accidently hit it at around 400k. I had done this several times before, and either the ODS bounced or I bounced. This time it seems I instantly ended up in null space. When i jumped out of null space, it took me all the way to the edge of the map, not to my original location. I tried to duplicate this again, but no joy. Though, after 30 minutes of pounding the ODS with my main guns and ALL my missles, I finally destroyed the ODS. Little suckers are tough. Were can I get that armor for my ship?

5 days to go. Yesterday was false labor for the wife, so no baby yet.

Six days to go. I don't think the wife is going to make it. She started having contractions last night. It could be false labor, but this dad is pacing. quote:...offer to hire a male fill-in ... only if I want to give up my family life of a computer game...hmmmm... that would me no responibilities except to my ship's crew, 24 hours of gameplay, and...NO DIAPERS! Well, tough decision, but I think the family still wins.

I thought I would open a thread due to newbie experience that I thought shouldn't be in the regular Tips & Tricks. Such as: DonÔÇÖt hyperspace to a enemy space station without your cloak engaged, unless you are suicidal! and DonÔÇÖt land in water! It is a space carrier, emphasis on ÔÇ£spaceÔÇØ. It is not a U.S. aircraft carrier. and DonÔÇÖt mistake your Button for the after burner like other games, especially when you are trying to climb altitude on a planet. You will crash ass first. and Read the Manual. It will save a lot heartache. This is a very in depth game that tests your managing skills, as well as your piloting skills. It is not an out-of ÔÇôbox shoot-em-up, or action game. But learning and mastering the game is satisfying and rewarding. I guess that is why it has such a loyal fan base. Newbie Forum tips, DonÔÇÖt diss the SC or the game. Like I said, there is a very loyal fan base. You will be on there bad side, and the SC as well. ( ) If you have bad opinions, state them professionally. If you want to generally bad mouth and trash talk, find another forum. Before asking questions, first read the manual. It will answer a lot of your questions. Second, use the search function of this forum. This will keep you from repeating a question that has been asked before. Third, when you do post a question, ask intelligibly and in complete sentences. This is so everybody will get a clear idea of what you are asking. I am not a know-it-all on this game. I have played it off and on for a couple of years, but did not have Internet access to access the forums and support of this game. It is a tool and a community that I find very valuable. Comparing myself to the veterans of this game, I consider myself a newbie. These are just some tips that I have learned from experience and reading other posts on these forums. Please feel free to add your input.

I went to EB today to reserve my copy of UC. I was told they will not have it till Nov. 14. Well that is the ...ummmdue date of my daughter. Hmmm, which to be exited for..daughterUC. Daughter wins, but UC comes in a close second, though for the next six months between the two, I will not be getting a good night sleep. Cant wait. Seven days to go!

Sadly enough, the cd cover (which apparently contians the serial number) went with the box, and has been lost as well. While traveling, all my cd's were kept in a carrying case. I didn't think twice about the serial number since it wasn't required for installation, unlike Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, or Windows 2000. Unless that number on the inner circle of the cd (that is very hard to read) is the serial number, I am SOL. Thanks anyway. Lesson learned. I will be sure to register my copy of UC. BTW, I went to EB and reserved my copy. P.s. Can somebody at least tell me (with SC approval) the key combo to match speed with target?

Over a year ago, I had read somewhere on this site that in the development of BC Generations, that it was going to try and make it possible for you to move about your asset, star stations and anything else in first person mode. I think it was BattleCruiser Tactical Engagement. Is there any plans to pick this up again and make this an add-on for UC?
-
Nobody has sent me anything. I bought this game about two years ago before going overseas (bcm). I stowed everything except the disk and the manual to lighten the load, and at the time, I was not worried about registration. I am not worried about it though. Like I said, UC will being coming out soon. BTW, where on this website do you offer to register?
-
Another thing not to do is to dogfight with cruiser/carrier. Your carrier is slow; turns slow and cannot maneuver against a fighter. It is hard to play offense with your ship against a fighter. I usually take out other large ships first, and then I launch my fighters to clean up the other fighters.

Ok, I apoligize. I didn't realize till i have read other posts that this may be a big deal. I don't know how to delete a post so, if anyone is reading up to this point, please don't send me anything. UC is suppose to be releasing very soon and I am planning on purchasing it. By then, I won't need the keyboard layout for this game. Thanks Delta

I know this is an old thread, but could someone send me a scanned copy of the keyboards command sheet to [email protected] I have lost mine to a 3 year old who likes to hide things. Last week it was my wireless mouse that went missing. Thanks

The worst part is, we were on Earth. If there was only a way to open the airlocks and shuttlebay doors, cut open the hull, or something, they could have got fresh air and lived. Btw, I did not abandon my crew. Once there was nothing to do, My AE went and breathed his last gasps with them. One piece of newbie advice, save your game before you make planet-fall. Another piece of advice, Don't attempt to land on Jupiter.

quote: 3)Hmmm. One deck at least has a little button that you have to click to see about 8 more systems. If your power is off there is a reason. Did you try turning it back on? Perhaps you are out of fuel. No power no workie. I was in the same situation. I entered Earth with no waypoints set and I did a shift-E to land. I ended up landing in water. It destroyed all my shuttle craft bays and and the reactors shut down. I checked everything (including the 8 more systems) and everything except the shuttlebays were 100%. I could not get the reactors back on. My thinking was the water entered the engine exuast and shorted the reactors without cuaseing any damage. The only thing I could do was exit the craft. I didn't have comms to request a tow ship and since I didn't any shuttle craft, I couldn't evac everybody, and they slowly died from the life support sytems being down. Point is, Don't land in the water!!

After I tried out the scheme in my last post, I realized that I could turn the reactor off without moving cargo around. I also figured out the solar panels do not work so well in an atmosphere. But I park on the daylight side of a atmosphere-less planet/moon, the solar panels will produce enough energy so that I can shut off the reactor and still power life-essential functions. This will shut down the tacops computer and heads up display though. The reason I am doing this is so that I can park on a remote part of a moon, deploy mining drones, and walk away from my computer for a couple of hours (I am playing in roam mode). A few hours later, I come back, pick up the drones, and sell the cargo. Shutting down the reactors and depending on the solar panels saves a lot of radine during idle time. After a few rotations of this, I have made several million credits. I found it worthwhile. My ship is upgraded, and I can afford to fill the fuel tanks with iridium, radine, and plutonium.

quote: In the real world, astronauts use tethers I know that real world astronauts use tethers and the reason why. My analogy on that was theoretically speaking. But the fact remains that space stations, ships, or what ever do not run away at high velocity as soon as you let go of them. Initially you are moving at the same speed that they are moving until you do something to alter that velocity and trajectory. Comparing the real-life physics of "this situation" to the physics in the game, it is very unreal. I know that this game does not use real-life physics because it would be a pain in the arse to play. But, when I am trying to play a game as a career space marine, which is a valid option, I continue to lose the space station when I step off into space. quote: You can always go into tacops and command your CC to come back and get you.As stated before I was playing the career a Space Force Marine. I do not have a CC to come and get me.
-
I thought of something. If I load all my radine on a shuttle craft, then the reactor will shut down and have no choice but to draw power from the solar panels. Hmmmm. I am going to have to try that tonight.
-
It is one of the things that I am really enjoying about this game as well. There are no shortcuts, and any decision I make has repercussions. It makes you think twice, and you learn from your mistakes. Another question is, is there a way to park on a moon, shut down the nuclear reactors and non-essential systems, and draw energy from the solar panels alone? This would save a lot of radine when I am doing a mining operation.

I figured it out, and thanks for your help. I sold everything that was not strapped down on my ship and scrapped enough creds to buy a new tatical computer and a main life support unit. So I am a few missiles and spare parts short, but all is not lost. the USNS Buckett will previal.

quote: The game does not use Newton's laws of physics.I am aware that the simulation does not use NewtonÔÇÖs law of physics in itÔÇÖs programming concept. If it did, it would be a pain in the arse to play. quote: What you mean here, is your idea of what a space simulator should be. I apologize. I just glanced at the cover of the manual and it says a ÔÇ£A Derek Smart SimulationÔÇØ So I understand that this is his game and I am only allowed to play by his rules. I apoligize, that was harsh and flame-atory. But the point I was trying to make was, you canÔÇÖt play as a Space Marine on a space station because you will end up floating in space by yourself. I know this is more of a game and not a simulation. If I want to play a simulation I would go and play Orbiter (info and download here) But as a space game, BattleCruiser is missing one of the biggest concepts about being in space. Other than Orbiter and MS Space simulator, BC is the only game that will let you exit a craft in space in first person mode. So I hope I didnÔÇÖt sound to much of an arse before, but I am role playing this game as a commander where I am responsible for the lives of my crew. I donÔÇÖt want to lose any of them or myself because I was ignorant of DerekÔÇÖs law of physics and was trying to apply real-world physics . (For the most part, Derek got gravity and friction down pat. I now from experience of crashing on a surface enough times.) I now know not to leave for a space walk while in orbit, otherwise ships, space stations, or whatever are going to leave my butt behind.

Well, for one, I don't have enough creds to buy new ones. Two, the Gualcom HQ will not let me replace it for free. I have ore to sell, but I cant access it without the tatical computer. Without the tatical computer, I can't assign myself or anybody else to fly the shuttles. Is there a secondary method of issue'ing orders? It would be a shame to not beable to evacuate anybody becuase a a computer is down.
-
Ok, I started a new game using a MK3 Heavy carrier. I landed on the Moon and started my mining operations. I powered all non-essential devices for the time being (engines, weapons, tractor beam, etc) 2 hours later I rounded up my mining drones, collect my cargo and tried to leave. Oops, I forgot to power up my engines. When I pressed SHIFT-E, the CC leapt from the ground for about 3 to 4 thousand meters and crashed. How it did this without any engine power is beyond me (please explain this if you wish). I did this twice before I released I needed to go into my logistics screen and give the engines power. At this time, I completely lost my tactical computer (destroyed) and main life support (destroyed) and my logistics screen is giving me the evacuation alert. Well Gualcom HQ is just a short jump away. I make it there and dock. All my personell are healthy, all other system are 100% except a little hull damaged and the destroyed tactical computer and main life support. I try and do repairs here, but I cannot assign engineers to do the repairs. What is going on here? I can repair other system though such as the hull.

Thanks for replying Derek, but not to be a jerk, but what good does it do to play the game as a space marine on a space station that outruns you? Am I supposed to wait until it catches me from the other side? Besides doesn't that defy a law of Newton that once an object is in motion that it remain in motion. When I am attached to the space station, my velocity is the same as the space station. So when I detach, I should remain at the same velocity, right? Example, theoretically if an astronaut taking a space walk on the space station and the only thing holding him to that space station was a handrail that he was grasping, when he lets go of that handrail, the space station does not go whisking away from him. I am not saying this is a bug, but for a ÔÇ£space simulatorÔÇØ, it is not correct. Ok I donÔÇÖt mean to knit-pick every detail of the game, especially orbital physics. I really enjoy the game and I plan to continue playing it, and UC when it comes out. This just was one of my small irks of the game. By the way, great job on a great game. I have read and followed up on this game since 1999. A sales rep at EB talked me out of buying the game at the time claiming it was full of bugs and unplayable. I bought the game (BCM) last year, and played it while I was deployed on a naval ship on my previous job. I ran the program night and day almost non-stop for 3 months. I lived 8 hours of my daily life doing a normal work shift, and the other 16 in Battle Cruiser world. If I wasnÔÇÖt able to sit in front of the computer, I would park on a moon and mine till I could get back to my computer. Now that I have returned home, I have a ton of questions. So please bear with me.
