  1. "Zero G" basket ball!!! now were talking!! HA! I could finally be like Mike! Or how about a golf couse on the moon, where Tiger Woods could put his tee shots into orbit. Ah well, maybe we'll see a water "gas station" on Mars in our lifetimes, and mine the asteroid belt... its fun to dream ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 2. most of you have probably seen this already... but here's a link to the story http://www.discovery.com/news/briefs/20000...sp_marsh20.html hmmm how long before we start a colony there ------------------ Cmdr. 3. I started a total domination game... by that I mean a free flight game where I try to capture every single Star Station in the game... using the Insurgent script of course So far the insurgents have taken over every Starstation in the terran quadrant. A couple stations were destroyed after being captured... but are busily being rebuilt. Credian quad is next... then Syrion. Saving the Gammulons for dessert. ------------------ Cmdr. 4. Yep... I picked it up too I saw some stars and spaceships on the box and had to have it!!!! Actually it feels a bit better than the demo... still a lumbering turning battle though pics , sound and music , General Chang / movies awesome. Ship destruction is really cool!!! looks like a keeper... Hmmmm... I like Terminus's physics but everthing else I've seen on that one sucks so far... this one is just the opposite AARRRGGHHH! Will anybody ever get everything we want into one game!! Oh wait I hear that there is a game called BCM being made... that just could be it!! Ah well, will just have to keep buying anything with stars and spaceships till its ready ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 5. Well all of the other games that I would rate better than this demo have at least one area where they have excelled. Tachyon had good sound, good graphics, excellent voice acting and a reasonbly immersive universe. Starlancer, while scripted, has excellent graphics and sound. Missions were good although it seemed more like naval warfare than space combat. (not a bad thing) Freespace 2 has excellent graphics and although its the same "launch - fly - shoot " formula, it was at least well done. "X" BTF... well if you could get past the very slow start, had a few good points. The music and 3D sound were good and I have yet to see a game where the ship upgrades had more of an effect on gameplay. Well ok.. maybe saying that X is better may be a bit harsh...but from what I've seen of the Terminus demo... The training mission voice it terribly done, the quality and volume fade in and out. They would have been better off using text based instructions. Graphics.. blah... low res and very few details on anything... and no ship cockpit? Gameplay seems really slow too.. maybe it just takes time getting used to realistic physics, maybe its just slow... I'll turn the voice effects all the way down and give it another try, but if the demo is indicative of the full game then I won't be buying this one.. I was really looking forward to this game, and so far I'm really disappointed. Too many things poorly done... ah well ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 6. heh I tried it too... we have no worries folks. In fact from what I've seen of the demo, I'd rate it below Tachyon, Freespace 2 and Starlancer. I even thought "X"-BTF was much better. oh well... yet another disappointment... ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 7. Here is how I start a typical game... before you launch... sell all spare parts buy Numega (1,100,000) buy Eyestar (2,750,000) buy Linear S/IV (825,000) launch and start upgrades dock and finish upgrades (free at Galcom) sell back Spectrum /A (165,000) sell back Starcry /S (110,000) sell back Lattis /NB (825,000) buy 970 units of Radine @2250 (2,182,500)970 units @ 15 units per jump = 64 jumps! now you can start playing and making some money to buy food and replace all the spare parts. that should get you going ------------------ Cmdr. 8. Holy SH*T!!! This movie totally rocked!! I can't count the number of times I thought of different computer games during many of the scenes. It had me thinking of Freespace, Wing Commander, Homeworld and especially BC3K. Starwars meets Heavy Metal is a real good comparison. Loved the chases on the different planets and in the ice nebula. A must see for any Sci-Fi / space game fan. Best movie of the year so far... IMO ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 10. hmm.. Well I like Bush (who doesn't ) I think people should be able to own a gun if they want... but, I am for some kind of gun training (safety, law awareness etc) heck its easier to get a gun than it is a drivers license. Oh and don't even talk about gas prices... we Illinoisans have the highest rates in the US (except Hawaii). Just why was it that we kicked Saddam's ass in Kuwait anyway??? hmmmm ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 14. Starlancer is another Wing Commander clone.. Awesome graphics as usual... but the same old... get a mission - shoot the baddies - return to base format. Tachyon is more similar to Privateer with the... select a job - kill the baddies - return to base - upgrade ship - format.. Tachyon has a more fleshed out universe and graphics almost as good as Starlancer... I like Tachyon's universe and SL's "feel" in flight. Neither has anything like BC3000's universe though... Looks like the only competition may be Terminus... we'll have to wait and see. my review... Tachyon - 7/10 Starlancer - 6/10 ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 15. I too am a fan of the space sim genre. (I've probably bought and played about 90% of all the space sim games ever made) I must admit that I don't really like too many RTS games... (unless of course they are space based) However, I bought and played Homeworld and to my surprise I liked it very much. The music kicks ass! Ok that said, on to why you should try BC3K again.... First off if you are looking for a fast paced shoot-em up with pretty graphics, then you are in the wrong place. Go get Freespace 2. BC3K is a much different game. What keeps me playing BC3K is the dynamic interactive universe and the sheer number of ways to play. There is a scripted campaign you can play. You can play freeflight, where you launch and do what ever you want. (my personal favorite) There is also an extreme carnage mode where you fly an interceptor against wave after wave of increasingly difficult opponents. There are also scripts available that allow you to play as other castes as well. While your primary responsibility in BC3K is commanding your Battlecruiser and crew, you can also take direct control of your other onboard craft as well.... Interceptors - for dogfighting and attacking planet surface targets. Shuttles - for ferrying supplies, troops, ATV's(tanks)and mining drones and for collecting cargo pods and capturing disabled spacecraft. ATV's - for attacking surface targets. With fleet command and control, you can control and command entire fleets of ships. (kinda like Homeworld ) You can also buy many upgrades for your ship. weapons shields systems etc... BC3K is not limited to space either. You can also attack cities and military bases on the planet surfaces.(There are over 7000 planetary mission zones to play in!) The best part in all of this is that the entire universe is dynamic, enemies will attack you, try to steal your support craft, and basically give you problems at every turn. They will even attack each other. You can choose to try to dominate the universe and capture every starstation in the game, or you can hide in a quiet corner of the galaxy, trading and minding your own business... its up to you... Coming soon will be BCM featuring online play, an expansion module that will let you take first person control of your alter ego and fight throughout your battlecruiser in first person view, and a sequel Bc3020. Add to that an avid fan base and community.... etc etc... I could go on and on... Sound like fun??? ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 17. Could someone please help me to create a single htm file for the insurgent docs? I have no problem creating a htm file with links to all the pics I need (done), but I don't know what program to use to get it all into one file. Thanks ------------------ Cmdr. 20. Just got back from the Dells fishing trip... The walleye weren't biting much, but the sturgeon were!! BIG time!! I caught 9 of em, ranging from 3 1/2 feet long to almost 5 feet. The biggest was a 56" 60 pound fish that took me 2 hours to land using 8 lb. test line.. what a battle! here's a pic of a one of the catches of the day http://www.firstworld.net/~andergum/JA-fish1.jpg I'll look at our docs tomorrow after work.. don't worry Rattler, we'll get them done... ------------------ Cmdr. 21. Rattler, I too am going out of town this weekend... the fish (and beer) in the Wisconsin Dells are calling me, and I must answer!!! 22. Hey guys the clock is ticking on Rattler's request for your completed fleet data! I have been helping him to get this info formatted and put into a single document... and as of now NO ONE except the insurgents info has been turned in. Earthcom is close except for a few changes due to the recent starstation movings etc.. Get on it!!! Tomorrow at 1800 hrs. is the deadline!!! ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. 23. In your list of Stations and their locations over in the New Fleet Locations forum, you list New America as being in the Omicron Eridani system at Midae (Verperon), however the time line has it at Tarean which is in the Alpha Canis system (Syrion). Just wondering which is correct... If the spot at Midae is open it might be easier to move Destiny there than to try and explain why Galcom would allow it to be built undetected at Uranus. If that isn't a problem then it might be easier to explain why New America is in Verperon space as opposed to Syrion space. ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. 24. just some ideas... that tie in New America, the Syrions and Destiny's location. New America was built as a joint venture between the Syrions and the Insurgents, to develop wormhole technology. This would give the Syrions the ability to travel and trade anywhere in the galaxy or (search for lost or stolen artifacts)and would allow the Insurgents to create a wormhole between New America and Destiny, which would eliminate the need to pass through the other jump gates in the Sol region. The Syrions would acquire the means to trade much more efficiently and the Insurgents would gain the ability to attack Galcom on two fronts at the same time. The Insurgents believed that a with a two pronged attack, one from New America/Destiny and the other from Sygan, that they would finally be able to assemble enough resources and ships to re-take the earth. Previous attempts by the Insurgents to re-take the earth (including their latest defeat in the Pluto region) had failed, mainly because they were unable to mass a large enough fleet and keep it supplied long enough to complete the job. However this new wormhole is unstable, and depends on power from the New America Starstation to remain open. with out New America, the wormhole closes and the link is severed. Ok I know this is a bit far fetched.. and it doesn't need to be wormhole tech. could be a limited HSD effect that only works between NA and Destiny... ------------------ Cmdr. 25. Thanks Derek for saving Destiny! she means alot to us insurgents I suppose it doesn't really matter where you put her, and I like Rattler's suggestion that it be a cloaked base. As far as where the Insurgents got all the money for funding.. well Galcom could have had a few commanders working secretly for the insurgents, funneling supplies and money to the enemy, before finally getting caught. Just where do you think all those $800 hammers went anyway ------------------ Cmdr. Andergum Spectre Fleet Pre. comm. Cmdr. New America StarStation ICV Gummy 1 Official tester of BC3K the series...
