Well I've played it a bit more.. The graphics, interface and overall polish are excellent. The game play is the same old "get a mission kill the enemies get a reward" formula. I tried to get a stick working by mapping the keys to the axis and buttons to the stick but the control isn't fine enough to effectively shoot anything. However, the mouse flight interface isn't that bad and actually kind of grows on you after a while. I guess if you are looking for a remake of Privateer with very nice graphics and the same type of gameplay then you'll like Freelancer.

I got it last night but only had enough time to load it up and play one mission. So far it looks look a pretty good sequel to Privateer. The graphics look nice and I really liked the debris field I flew through. Pretty cool to actually have to dodge the bits of floating debris. I'm definately going to have to find a better control scheme though. I just hate that you can't use a flightstick. I was weaned on flightsim type games using a stick and there's no going back now. I think my logitech flightstick software will do the job though. I'll report back when I've had sometime to play it a bit to get a feel for it.

Anand's review is much better IMO. They included screenshots and IQ comparisons and did most of their benchmarking using AA and AF. Anyone buying a videocard these days is definately going to crank up the AA and AF. There is just no reason not to anymore. Tom's is obviously very biased towards Nvidia. Overall I think the GFFX has a couple BIG problems. Heat and noise. The speed is not bad for beta drivers but not nearly as good as what I expected from all the hype. The measures they had to go through to get it that fast is rediculous. The fan is just too big and noisy and my computer has quite enough heat already. Looks like ATI made the right choices with their 256 bit memory bus and staying at .15 for one more cycle.

The constant switching from the battle was a bit distracting, but it was also very much like how the books were switching between the different sets of characters. Just when you really get into what the characters are doing they switch to the others. I have a feeling that they ended it when they did to beef up the last film a bit. The last book is the shortest and I doubt they will go into all the detail of what happens to each character after the ring is destroyed. This way there is more left for the last film. Sigh... so another 6 months or so for the DVD's and another year for the Return of the King. I can't wait!!! Gimli was just too funny through the whole film. "Don't tell the elf... " indeed!

I just got back from it as well. 10/10 from me! I loved every minute of it. The ents were especially cool and the battles were incredible!

He then used the rubble of the old mainland city, (which Neduchadnezzar of Babylon destroyed years before) and built a causeway to the island city, which he destroyed. The prophesy also said his life would be cut short, which it was, that four horns would come up after him, but not with his power, (four of his generals split the kingdom), and that "not to his posterity" would his empire be left. So it was that all of Alexander's family and heirs were done away with after his death. (The ambitious Cassander killed both Roxana, his wife, and his son, also named Alexander. Also Heracles, his illegitimate son by Barsine, were also killed) So yes, the Bible was written by men, except they were "Inspired by God to do so", and not of their own accord. Anyway, something to chew on. None of the above proves anything though. Its all written in general terms that can be interpreted any number of ways. IMO the war on terrorism is totally useless unless we are going to do something about protecting our borders. Does anyone else find it quite odd that we will spend billions of dollars hunting down Alqaeda or going to war with Iraq but have done little to nothing to prevent them from wandering into our country on work VISA's or or student VISA's etc. Where the hell is homeland security if we are going to let anyone and everyone enter and wander around in our country seemingly at will?? from the main page at Hardocp.com "ATi Statement on AGP8X: ATI is aware of a small number of reports of incompatibility between the RADEON 9700 PRO graphics accelerator and certain AGP 8X motherboards. It is important to emphasize that the number of incidents is very low. Extensive testing has been done, in conjunction with motherboard chipset manufacturers, motherboard manufacturers and with retail available motherboards, to determine if compatibility issues exists. From these tests, it has been concluded that no compatibility issues exist with the current or soon to be released AGP 8X motherboards. Some end users have reported issues to our Customer Service department that we are investigating. From the data that has been gathered, it appears that issues that have been reported are caused by individual board issues and are not indicative of a general compatibility issue. RADEON 9700 PRO product owners are encouraged to contact our Customer Service Department should they have an operational problem with their product. In addition, it is important to ensure that appropriate system preparation is done prior to installing the RADEON 9700 PRO. We recommend installing the latest motherboard BIOS in the system as well as the latest available AGP drivers. Many of the 8X issues have been resolved with an updated BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer. From what we have seen here and from what other webmasters have shared with us it does seem to be the mainboard and PSU builders "fault" that certain compatibility issues exist. We are still trying to get a grasp on this ourselves." As for thinking true AGP8X was going to come to market without any glitches to handle is certainly a pipe dream. If we all hang in there and make sure we report the problems we see back to ATi and the company that builds your particular mainboard, we will certainly get things worked out sooner. Remember, teamwork, as a community is key for smoothing out the AGP8X road. So let's all be part of the solution, and not part of the problem. Report your problems to the appropriate support department with full system, OS, and driver specs. " It looks like the 8xAGP mobos may be at fault, or a combination of the two. At any rate if you are worried about compatibility problems it is best to wait a bit for everything to be sorted out.
