For the moving around problem:
If you go into TACOPS (alt+s) you can set a waypoint for the CC or the shuttle while you're still in space. The great thing is that you can specifically target areas of interest on the planet by clicking on it in TACOPS and clicking on "observe". Then a screen will pop up that shows the various zones, who controls areas, etc... If you put a waypoint on or near one of the colored rectangles on the map that should put you close to at least one area of interest. Then it's just a matter of telling the CC to "Resume Waypoints" and putting it on autopilot. It'll probably still take a few minutes to reach the planet's atmosphere, but if you set the waypoint, it should enter the atmosphere mear that waypoint, which means a lot less flying through barren areas. So, once that's done you just sit back and wait for your CC or shuttle to enter the atmosphere, then jump back to the controls because it's taken off auto pilot after that and you could crash.
On the subject of money:
You can salvage cargo pods from destroyed ships, mine on planets/moons/etc... and sell whatever cargo/minerals you acquire by docking with a friendly or neutral station and selecting the TRADECOM computer once you're docked. Then you can just sell your stuff and buy cargo/minerals/etc... for yourself.
Hope that helps.
