Damn, the way you bring it makes an awful nature thing into a filthy thief! Ironice little post, lol! Anyway I hope you guys didn't have too much damage (other than the severe psychological damage for not being able to play UC)?

MP Fleet Action Tournament
Mordax Blyrr replied to Zane_Marlowe's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
I think it would be a good idea afterall to use the SP map instead of the MP one. At least for the time being. The actions, tactics and so on are just imagined to be fought inside the SP world, whereas we only use the MP world for 'battle arena's' ignoring their actual location in the MP world. This was your original idea and I do think it might be the best option for now, afterall. -
MP Fleet Action Tournament
Mordax Blyrr replied to Zane_Marlowe's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Well Zane, it sure would simplify things and that good for management purposes. However, on a realistic basis this doesn't make sense. It would mean that you could attack an adjacent square while the whole fleet was originally fighting at the other side of the allied space regions. Are you intending to add some kind of move points per turn, or? -
MP Fleet Action Tournament

Good news, Zane! I hope Sho can 'lure' you to our Insurgent cause as well! -
Jeez! Had a blast tonight! Playing the UK campaign (after getting asswhooped in the Soviet Mission 1 time after time! Which one is the easiest anyway???). In mission one you will first need to take out the search lights and the artillery (taking out the men is sufficient, as long as others don't come on the idea to takeover an empty seat, lol) with only one soldier. Then the rest of the team comes (reminds you of Commandos eh?) and you will have three men. I decided to go via the West side of the map. Covered in bushed I sneaked toward a Flak gun, which (after finding out the hard way) can be used as easily on men than on aircraft. Two of my mates perished in a chaotic firefight that was the result of many enemy soldiers coming to take a look after the Flak had spitted fire... My last hero, laying behind the dead bodies of his mates for cover, was able to take out all the soldiers one by one amazingly! The western part of the base was clear and it was time to rearm, find a helmet (mine was shot off my head) and take all the firepower I could carry. The rest of the base didn't seem to have any attention for the slaughter that went on seconds ago. My new objectives are to destroy the lighthouse and now completely destroy the artillery so that the Trident Submarine is no longer attacked. I look in my backpack... not a single pack of dynamite or even matches. Looks like we will have to 'borrow' it from the germans. With the western part being free I could advance to the eastern part and without giving to much spoilers I will tell you that my single hero managed to kill off all germans in the camp by himself. The cover function in this game are outstanding and never seen before! Also I discovered that if you set your soldier on the side of a door peeking inside the house, he will shoot insiders himself if not directly controlled. Anyway... again without spoiling the game I destroyed all objectives (yeah I know, how do you take out the last artillery, eh??) and to my great amazement in the next level your units are carried over!!! So here I am, in a hostile, completely under german control, french town, without ammo for my (luckily) taken Walter P7 from an officer, only a few grenades and a (luckily also captured from that same officer) knife. I must get to a resistance rendezvous point to get my further objectives. Motorcycles roaming the streets patrolling. A armored truck riding its rounds filled with soldiers... A machinegun emplacement near the railroad track covering the sparsely populated area of the town... Then I am seen by soldiers guarding a house! Immediately another motorcycle approaches and three men get out on the hunt for my head. I quickly run to some boxes behind a wall to take cover. Luckily there's only one way to get to me so if they find me they will be in a trap... or I am... I arm the knife, being all that I can use. The first one, an officer, peeps around the corner, I cut his face to shreds, he carries another walter... with ammo!! I quickly equip it and with running, taking cover, and quick wits I am able to finish off the others. Now I also have a motor at my disposal! I go to my rendezvous point, but my contact is not there. I suggest they have taken her... So here I am, with limited firepower, all alone, in the search for my resistance contact! ..... Damn, this game plays like a movie!
-
Wowee, usually I am not this fast with buying games I really don't know, but from your discription guys the game seemed too good to be true, so today I drove by the software shed to look at the box... I could not help myself, I bought it... Damn, I've never seem such detail in any game before! You can use ANYTHING out there you can possibly find, you can destroy ANYTHING you see. You can really take cover behind objects and shoot while in cover from the sides, going into cover again when reloading. Not just some line of sight trick as in many RTS games. The sheer amount of animations for everything a soldier can do look indeed just like a movie! All seems so real, so finsihed! Tanks operate best with a full squad. If you don't have a full squad, not all functions can be done at the same time, like aiming the turret while driving, reloading, etc. Very nice. Soldiers can ride along at the bodywork. When you take damage and you have a repair kit (either in your tank or you take it from another vehicle) a soldier repairs the vehicle. You can swap fuel from one vehicle to the other... Just think about something and you probably can do it in Soldiers... I have noticed some pathfinding issues and I do find it very awkward that a Directly Controlled unit is far more accurate than a RTS style controlled unit... This makes the game control sometimes a little weird. Also soldiers seem to get stuck easily in corridors while under Direct Control. But these are probably just minor issues being fixed sooner or later (I already have the 1.12.2 patch installed). One thing that strikes you from the beginning however.... EASY setting doesn't seem to have any effect, or at least the EASY setting is misleading to say the least. This game is NOT easy, it's VERY difficult and I don't want to think about the pain I'll suffer when playing on NORMAL or HARD. Another good thing: There has been announced that there will be a map editor in the near future for Soldiers.

How can we improve the Insurgent Fleets?
Mordax Blyrr replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in Insurgent Fleets
quote:Originally posted by Hasenau: quote:I'd say we should setup a private forum to get the 'secure communications like'-part done, Very good thinking, Mordax! However, we already tried to establish this kind of Forum. It wasn't exactly the kind of success we expected, as people apparently had a hard time being aware of the forum whatsoever... Howcome people had a hard time finding the forum? I assume all fleet members frequent these forums and I assume a notification was present on these forums? Maybe its a good idea to setup a fleet mailing list, so that every member gets important info in his email box? quote: quote:however based on the current fleet activity I think we might have a problem anyway.Good point, that was the problem last time as well. Like I messaged Sho, every fleet stands or falls with its participating members. If people don't participate there's nothing you can do to become an active fleet... quote: quote:What I mean is that some people are in Europe, some are in US or Asia bringing huge time differences. This is not beneficial for multiplayer battles.Again, you are 100 per cent right. Myself, I am in Europe, having a *very* inaccurate schedule each week and quite frankly not always the time (family and all hehe) to go and play MP (being aware that due to mentioned time differences very few players will be available, this being a a gmae mostly played in the US ) I already suggested to create a European Wing in Bishamon, or even the Insurgents as a whole. However, there was chosen not to do this at this time. I know what it is to be subject to inaccurate schedules each week, but it helps if UC events are announced enough time in advance. quote: quote:I guess a good way to start is make a roster in which every member lists the evenings that he is available. We could then form some sort of mini-ladder with 1 vs 1 or even 'more vs more' battles to get the actual combat training under way.Mordax, on this I can only agree 50-75 %. The roster itself is a good idea, but then again: You pointed out yourself that we have European and Asian players that simply cant muster the time for MP right now If not having time for multiplayer is the main issue we will have to use the single player roam feature of UC to give orders to our men. They can then, in turn, when they want and have the time for it, execute these orders at will. Roam is perfect for these kind of situations. quote: quote:This will also result in people being forced to be more active in the fleet.Setting up a roster and perhaps making rank decisions upon it might be considered unfair by some Netherland, Swedish, Finnish, German, Russian or even Chinses Players. However the idea is good. How about making up a roster for Euro/Asian Players as well ? Let's face it: Since '98 I learned one thing: only dedication and interest makes people become active and stay in the communitly... Indeed and with all respect, if players will not participate in events setup by the fleet I certainly do not believe they belong in a fleet at all. A Euro/Asian roster brings the same issues as one whole ladder, so if we want to use ladder, taking the time zone's into account we will end up with a seperate ladder for each continent, this is not something that sounds realistic and thus a ladder system seems out of the question at this time. The idea of ranks bound to ladder results is probably not a good idea. This will immediately mean that active or, addicted if you will, players will have the edge (rankwise) over players with the same morale, but less time. This, as you said, is indeed unfair. quote: quote:There are ideas to expand the whole case, but they will be revealed in time when I have clearance, besides I think its important to get the actual in-game practise rolling now that the Expansion Pack has been announced!Well, Captain... My salutations. You did excellent thinking and have very good ideas that you share with us! I wish we had more officers like you! Discussion is always a good thing. It helps forming new ideas . Thanks for your support and I hope I can continue to serve the Insurgents in a decent manner. -
As a matter of fact I do have something to add, Vice Admiral. In order for everyone to be able to see who will be online when I suggest the men give their time of availability in relation to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). This way it doesn't matter where in world you are, we immediately have a clear view when you will available in relation to others. Due to the nature of my profession I am at school mon-fri, but at irregular times, so mornings and afternoons are probably not an option. However, if our training schedules are planned enough in advance (which is our aim) there should be no problem. In the evenings, same applies; if I know it early enough I will be available. In general I will be only available in the evenings (around 18:00 GMT (summer)). P.S. Don't bother to make some kind of neat timetable to put into this thread where you have combined others also. All this info will be contained into a timetable for comfortable viewing about who, where and when will be online. Only provide short info we ask. How can we improve the Insurgent Fleets?
Mordax Blyrr replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in Insurgent Fleets
I'd say we should setup a private forum to get the 'secure communications like'-part done, however based on the current fleet activity I think we might have a problem anyway. What I mean is that some people are in Europe, some are in US or Asia bringing huge time differences. This is not beneficial for multiplayer battles. Almost every time I login on the MP serves there is not a single soul on any of the servers... I guess a good way to start is make a roster in which every member lists the evenings that he is available. We could then form some sort of mini-ladder with 1 vs 1 or even 'more vs more' battles to get the actual combat training under way. This will also result in people being forced to be more active in the fleet. Navigation on planets, HOURS

You are already shouting after 4 hours not having a reply on your initial post... If you're this impatient I doubt that UC/BC will be your game... Now siddown and be patient, soldier. I agree that it would be nice to have pictures reflecting your race, but this is not the case. I don't even look at the faces of my crew anymore, so I couldn't care less if a gammulan sucker or a terran face is looking at me! Besides, you only choose a race/caste for your commander. Who says he cannot have Terran officers? Or are you one of those thinking that Worff is actually a human being who was living too close to a nuclear reactor in his youger years instead of being a Klingon?

More newb questions - Multiplayer
Mordax Blyrr replied to ENS2018's topic in General Multiplayer Discussions
First slap then ask questions! No for real, depending on which timezone you're in the multiplayer servers can be quite desolate. I usually am very alone.... The multiplayer aspect is about to be unleashed into the community, the fleets getting up to speed again and organizing themselves. In the mean time, try to get to know a little bit more about the community (read some RPG threads from the past (1998 - 2000)) and maybe if you interested in joining a fleet, do so and get up to speed contacting fleet members. Then just enter the MP servers and have some fun and polish your MP skills... You'll be needing them soon! -
Yeah well, I find it way better not having to browse through 1000 threads asking the same question, or reading through 1000s of useless, some even utterly disrespectful posts over and over again. Then I prefer being subject to strict rules on a forum and keeping it nice and clean.

Patch is great work. Great to see the dev team still being this informative as there have been so many pricks on the forums just bashing and bashing on them and the game... I hate it when that happens.

Hi all! I was wondering after reading a review of both games in a dutch games magazine if anyone here actually saw one or both games in action already and if so, what's your review!

I think giving too much people access to the database will result in confusion fests. MP Fleet Action Tournament
Mordax Blyrr replied to Zane_Marlowe's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
First of all, Zane, I really like the initiative you're bringing to the community and I am very eager to see it finished! quote:Originally posted by Zane Marlowe: 1. Orders. Fleet Commanders use their fleets on the mapboard by giving an order. Orders alternate between all participating fleets, so if you give an order, you won't get to give another one until everyone else has given one too. Orders can be either move, attack, or resupply. How is this data going to be managed, because what I make out of your ideas there is only one man who is kinda the "Dungeon Master", you. Every Fleet commander send his orders to you, you update the map accordingly and send out a request for the next set of orders to the fleet commanders, is that correct? This would mean heaps of work for you just to let the basics run. quote:Originally posted by Zane Marlowe: 2. Move orders. You can move from one planetary region to another. You cannot move into a planetary region occupied by an enemy fleet. What about cloaked...? Hehe no just kidding. quote:Originally posted by Zane Marlowe: 3. Attacks. Enemy fleets in an adjacent planatery region are vulnerable to attack. An attack order generates a multiplayer engagement. This means that if the SP world is used in Fleet Action, the MP world is of no significance to Fleet Action, right? The only time you have to start multiplayer is when an attack is commenced and then it doesn't matter in which MP system this is; the multiplayer region the battle is fought in actually is a SP world region. So as long as all players choose the same region to fight in, it doesn't matter how this region is called in MP. (You might have to make some jumps in order to get to the battlefield though... that might slow things down...) My point is that this would immediately decrease the odds people using Fleet Action on the long term as far as I can see. Even more so when Fleets become more active and MP gets more active as time passes. Why not having Fleet Action use the MP world. This will result in people having reference points in-game and also the strategic part may be setup in-game as a whole once more members are interested in Fleet Action and the concept is even more worked out. I figure you wouldn't want to be porting the world over later on. It's not that the idea at the moment wouldn't work, but I would be using the MP world to be prepared for changes in future. On a whole I do like the idea, though. -
*Saluting to all Fleet members!*

Video driver problems on nVidia cards
Mordax Blyrr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
almost pilot, this is not a problem in the driver sets, but it is a problem of the refresh rate being set by the graphics card and your monitor not being able to handle them. I had the same problem when upgrading my vid card drivers. To get rid of this you will have to enter your advanced display properties (e.g. rightclick anywhere on your desktop as long as you're not right clicking on any icons! ;P then go to the 'settings' tab, then press the 'advanced' button). Then choose the FX5200 tab to enter NVIdia's control panel (or similar if you're not using ref drivers) and select 'refresh rate (...)'. Here make sure it's set to the 'override' option and then enter for each resolution the refresh rate you want the card to be using so that your monitor can handle them. Hope I am clear enough cause I have to translate the options from dutch.
