President Ronald Reagan dies at 93
Anarchist replied to Medivh747's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
I liked Reagan during the '80s, but I was nearly a child back then. though I always thought he just said "Tear down this wall", because he never expected Gorbachev to really be able to do it. but it was an impressive speach nonetheless. using the term "Empire Of Evil" for the Sowjet Union was even for me back then just way overdone propaganda, like the "Axis Of Evil" now is. I recommend reading the book "Codename Veil" by Bob Woodward (but be warned, it has about 800 pages!), I doubt that anyone would be a Reagan-fan after that. but, may he rest in peace... -
...I just found out that there is no possibility for saving at logoff from a server in UC, too. doesn't this mean all upgrading of your CC, training of your crew and trading or aquiring experience is rather pointless? it's all gone as soon as you logoff (or the server reboots). how do you guys play under these circumstances? are there any tricks for getting near you last status?

It may run fine, but it is better to download and run this: Microsoft VC redistributable package. It contains some more files that the .dll may need, which may or may not be installed already. Greetings, Wouter Dijkslag ...thanx. this seems to be wise indeed!

yesssss! the server on my second machine is working now. I used the 1.01 patch from the GamersHell link this time, and it was the right one. although I ran into another problem when starting the "BCServerConfig.exe": "msvcp60.dll missing". this file seems not to come with win98se, which my BCMG-server runs on. so I copied this .dll from my XP-machine into the windows32-folder of the '98-machine and it just runs fine. just posting this for other people who might run into this problem.

I think I found the cause of the problem now. I downloaded the 1.01 patch (which must be applied first) from the Dreamcatcher-link on your page. sadly behind this link there is the 1.01.04 patch, which should not be applied to the retail version (as far as I understand it) in contrary to the comment next to the link. unfortunately I downloaded from this link and got the 1.01.04 patch instead of the 1.01 patch as the link suggests. no offense, though.

...first, thanx for the info. I am currently installing BCMG on a second machine for dedi-server purpose. should be able to copy missing files from this new installation as soon as it is patched. Though I cannot remember ever having messed up a patch in my gaming career, LOL, logic dictates: in this case me or my machine have made a mistake. thank you for your help!

hmmm,...I am absolutely sure of having copied the patch into the main game directory before starting it. always being very diligent, when it comes to computer issues (you would expect this from a NetworkAdministrator, right? ) to be precise, I installed the 2 patches from your site in ascending order. I hope that was correct. do I mess it up in reinstalling the latest patch or both again? obviously there went something wrong and the blame could be really on my side. the description of the problem is quite simple. whenever I try to start the MP-client or server in using the shortcuts....just nothing seems to happen. not the smallest window shows up. the singleplayer mode showed no problems so far. the buglog file contains this: "Could not find server_password.bmp" the shortcuts have these parameters: client: bcmg.exe /c server: bcmg.exe /s which sounds logical to me. this seems to be one of the rare cases, where I cannot fix such problem by myself. I hope I haven't done anything really dumb. at least I don't remember.

it does not look bad. I am a FPS fan since Wolfenstein3D, but there is a time when you got enough. its just "another routine FPS" from what I get. and I can't be convinced to play on a console and I have a problem with M$, sorry

...without doubt we are talking about the JJFFE-exe. I played FFE on XP without probs, its a really fine update. btw. "Elite 3" is shareware by now, so you can download it if you don't have the game. ah, yes. I will post the link: JJFFE

...of courses I have BCMG, would be foolish to buy just BCM in these days got UC, too, in the meantime. but first doing some BCMG before making the next step. had some trouble with starting the multiplayer-exe of BCMG, must figure out this first. and then trying the dedi-server of BCMG.

oh, how could I forget this: I still have the original boxes of "The Bard's Tale", "Borrowed Time", "Mindshadow" and "Buzz Aldrin's RiS", which range from 1985 to 1992. not to forget "Descent", made by Parallax.

...why don't you make an agenda for yourself before starting your Roam. and then act accordingly to your list of priorities. as a terran commander you defend allies and civil vessels for example. or you can try to clean a certain planet from any enemies, if that's possible.

I really don't know, what I should think of that. China's government seems to have a problem with a free state of Tibet in a game. me for that matter has a problem with a not-so-free state of Tibet in reality....oh, well.... klick

...yes, its a shame. the StarTrek games for instance are miletones in gaming history. I have very fond memories of "Star Trek 25th Anniversery" and I just loved "Klingon Academy". and here is it again, my tendency for complicated simulations

Understood!

...oh, man. just played the Falcon series till 3.0 Gold. never got into 4.0 seriously, which is a shame. and there are great expansions, too. you can bet, that I have an enormous backlist...

some early productions of mr. smart... :)

...I know. these games are too simple. -
I found this while 'random-picking' some old games: klick don't blast me, SC!

...I guess they beamed from cloaked ships, which were quite nearby... its not fair, though
-
...let us walk on the path of logic: you are a trader sporting an LRT-vessel. most factions are neutral to you and won't attack you anyway. your only enemies are raiders and similar. the question is: do raiders beam on board? have none experience in this so far....

I don't have the game (yet), but since I have linux servers for most of my games (they got way more performance!) I want to ask modestly, if there is a linux executable for a UC-server?
-
...I think the mining drones are standard equipment of the shuttles. and a LRT has shuttles, too. right? I have found some nice trading route thread in the tips-forum, if I remember correctly.

...I put one of my laptops onto the desk next to the monitor and use it as library- (manual appendix) or com-terminal (this forum), or GalNet interface (internet). yes....I am weird.
