I have the feeling either my motherboard or PSU is failing My system AMD Duron 700 Gigabyte XE motherboard 256mb Ram Geforce 2 mx Graphics card Simptons, machine will do an instant shutdown as in one sec im happily typing next screen is blank and whole system is in pwer down mode (only psu is still chugging can hear fan) This isn't critical yet never happened while i was playing a game always usually within 5-20 mins of turning pc on and only happened 6 times in the last 2 months but is getting more frequent. Any ideas All power consivation is turned off CPU Temp is fine no spikes once pc is on for over 30 mins it can be on rest of day no pwer down. As I said its happened during writing notes browsing the web and reading emails but never during a game. Kinda got me stumped Any ideas greatly appreciated

Hey I have nothing against money going to Derek, i'd gladly pay $80 upfront and 30$ per month for playing BUT only if I knew every other player was doing the same and it was an equal playing field but as I see it now its the: I've got more money rl than you and therefore I can have more in game than you. If you are happy with that np i haveto stick to my own ideals and beliefs, personally I could have made £1000's in Everquest by hunting items with my chars and selling them online but its just something inside me that I can't.. Maybe i'm getting old but both me and my wife were brought up to believe hard work is what matters. We all know in the real world this doesn't stand up, but everyone starts on a basically equal footing okay you have kings and queens rich and poor, but there is no outside influence in life that kicks it your way (unless you sold your soul to a nice daemon with an inside bet) Like everyone I've cheated at single player games, (as a rule of thumb i'll complete a game without god mode ect then go back and explore the game looking at all the nice graphics ect afterwards). But online multiplay games niether me or my wife have cheated, we have enough respect for other players not too. Cheating : An unfair advantage The first game where real money cheating was involved that I knew of was a text based mud called Entradi, by paying real money to the owners of the mud you could get bigger houses built, better god made weapons meaning a player without rl money to spare couldn't compete with you. If you didn't have the real money to spare or a credit card, tough luck no matter how good you were at the game you could never get as good or do aswell. Meridian 59, Everquest, Asherons call and UO, a new breed of player came along most didn't even like the games but each night they would log on camp items gain resources ect and sell them for real money. The bad side to these kind of people are its there livelyhood and little old you who just wants to have fun killing monsters or destroying enemies can get alot of hassle. The main bad points of this kind of economy 1)A spoilt brat with daddies credit card can buy a maxed out char or the most powerful items in 30 second where as if you even though you put alot of effort in it could take 1 year real time to do the same. 2)What is worse these guys have no idea how to use these uber characters and get alot of people killed or just annoyed. Sadly I just learnt of the following "GCO will fully support and encourage a real-world economy and have a special server setup specifically for galcreds and US dollar currency exchange...buy an entire city that would cost about 1000 real world DOLLAS!!!" This is why we will never play or beta this game unfortunatly, a game player likes to think the playing field is level in a game not level unless you don't have rich parents or alot of money to spare, real money influence is in my view some of the worst cheating in games and totally related to how much money you have real life.. Can people seriously tell me they want to be in a game world where your holdings that took you 100 plus hours to work for, someone better off than you in real life can gain in minutes. Its probably me thats wrong but I see it as a negative affect on gameplay (Pczone had an article on this awhile ago and how bad it is)

You gona hate me , I got that very same graphic card(was going to go for the named brand but hey it cost less and give same benchmarks) works perfect in my machine so the card must be a duff one you just got bad luck I run mine with my Duron 700 and play all my games that allow it at 1280

The pain, the pain of it all... Once there was a happy games player with a lovely AMD 450 machine, life was good crashes were rare and no game ever complained... The coming of the dark times when a game player is tested to his limit, I saw the many shiney lights of the new hardware and its lure was too great. First came the Abit KT7 motherboard and the AMD Duron 700, the speed of it all, I ran every game I had at max resolution and affects, we had a few problems but life was good, the power! the speed, I wanted more, I recieved a soundblaster 1024 live, and a pair of 600w speakers with a nice little subwoofer to grace the underneith of my desk, It lives!!! I travelled the hallways of unreal tournament and counterstrike, I was a god, every foot step I heard, every shot had a direction never in my gaming life had I heard the likes of this, but all is not well *sob* after the the tests I started to hear crackles in the background and the closer I listened the more it sounded like rice crispies or a badly tuned radio... Life will go on I shall find the problems Yay it could be a UDMA conflict Or maybe the master bus for my Abit board is interfering because aslong as I don't use EAX as in I run the card as a basic sound card things are fine If anyone has any ideas this is getting frustrating especially seen as i'll be recieving my Geforce 2 tomorrow and don't want to compound the errors.

I messed with settings and now have a nice 110fps, me would like to find out about that tweak program too

Windows 98 se Always the same when I upgrade my pc (every 6 months) takes me months to get my system all comfy then wam!! I change something. most curious thing is it always seems like a good idea at the time.

Hi, I've put this here because it doesn't relate specifically to BC, I've just recently upgraded my pc: Old system: Amd k6-2-450, 160sdram 100, awe 64, Voodoo 3 3000, 13gb hd udma ide. (3dmark 2000 benchmark 1146) New system Added AMD Duron 700 Abit KT7 motherboard Old equip 160 sdram 100 awe 64 Voodoo 3 3000 agp 13GB hd USB Microsoft optical explora mouse (3dmark 2000 benchmark 2570) (Non overclocked, I never overclock my systems) I formatted my hd reinstalled everything, I am suffering from 1 glitch: Transfering large amounts of info from my wifes pc via our 3com xl 10/100 cards causes my mouse (above) to die, no error the optical lights just go out and nothing till I reboot. Before I formatted my hd, I used the test for Earth 2150 to test it on 640*480 score was 105.3 For some reason after reformat and reinstall I am now on 81.4 for the same test. Yes i've redone all my patches ect. Anyone got any ideas (i've moved my mouse over to ps2 port via an adaptor for now). Oh and anyone familiar with the benchmark i'm using should I be getting better than this? (upgrading Graphics card too but waiting till i've sorted this out)

Hiya, (my apology for this rant) I've not been around for abit (so far out I only just signed up for beta) 06:53am. I retired from work 3 years ago to look after my wife,(diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia philadelphia chromosone positive) Went through all the treatments and now she has been in remission for almost two and a half years. (They say it will come back but we just have fun and do what we can, you really value the small things) Every year we haveto fill in a claim form so that my wife gets disability allowance and I get money to look after her. They scr£wed up this time, without checking medical information ect they dropped her money from highest to lowest In July and the goverment has since then past us from department to department (11 weeks now) and we finally talk to someone with intelligence a rarity in goverment it seems and it may get sorted now. The down side is my wife has got slowly more stressed for these 11 weeks and each week had another "oh we lost your file" or the classic "Oh it shouldn't even have come to us". The following is a small piece from the larger piece that will goto the Disability living allowance Public relations manager today and tomorrow will goto the editor of the Sun national newspaper. My main complaints are 1)They dropped Paola's benefit drastically without any checking on Paola's status with her doctors. 2)When we asked them to look at it again they did but again no outside consultation no asking Paola's GP for information. 3)We were told to gain medical proof for the appeal, we got our doctor to write a formal letter explaining how paola needed 24/7 care (by there own guidelines this should have been enough to reinstate Paola to the benefit level she was before) 4)We waited patiently for four weeks I rang up each week to see how it was going, was told it was week 35 appeal so would be a while yet (all this time my wife is getting more stressed, more days where she was sick in bed more panic attacks) 5)On the weekend Paola was so bad I hadto see the doctor and he prescribed anti depressants and the next day some different ones(for the first time in two years Paola was on anti-depressants), Paola was basically a vegatable bringing back up anything she eat not sleeping all due to stress. 6)On monday I ring up and am told it could be three to four weeks before we know, I say this isn't good enough and can they please put me through to the appeal office, I talk to a very polite person called ***** she marks the case as urgent and a few hours later she tells me that the person looking at the file is confused because it seems no medical evidence was requested and thus the apeal can't go ahead infact it should never have gone to apeal and our claim is sent to medical services seems they can't accept the evidence we sent as it wasn't requested. What annoys me the most is it isn't the cancer or drugs that are killing my wife off she fought them and won this time its some idiots in blackpool who decide a persons fate. One another note, before july I was pretty amazed at how well and hard I had worked on our finances even though due to the problems with a con man before she got ill, I had CCJ's and about £10,000 in debts I had slowly got everyone happy was paying of alittle each month even to the point of the bank we were with upgrading our credit rating and cheque account. Each month since July I've got closer and closer to the point where I haveto choose bills or Paola, I won't lower Paola's standing of living so money that would goto bills is making up the £40 extra per week, Why you may ask? My wife has fought cancer she has been through hell, every day she is in pain from arthritis and muscle cramps but she doesn't complain she is only 24 and may not see life even to 30 so i'll be damned to hell before I put bills before allowing her the few things she is still able to do just because some *sshole in Blackpool didn't have the brains I was born with. (my wife is slowly coming back to herself now please don't pitty us just needed to get this off my chest before I goto war with them) Thanks to BC3K v2.9 atleast I've not gone totally insane yet, you come to realise how shallow most games are when your desperatly trying to forget the hassles for a couple of hours

Please don't shout at me for this. I Decided after getting back online and drooling over BCM to install my original UK (Gametek edition) and it played (Amazed because of all the changes to my setup) Now I have the: BattleCruiser_3000AD_Upgrade_UK, Unzipped it to my BC3000AD directory Creating: UpdateUK.bat bc3k206.exe. I goto the directory and cliq on the Update UK Batch file and it starts installing. Until it gets to bc3lib2.res it says old file not found. (I uninstalled and tried again this time opening the exe file) I checked the FAQ and it only deals with 2.0 plus issues. I can't remember how I installed it last time I know it worked but this time i'm stumped. Now I know i'm missing something and I know its my own fault and I know its not a bug, and I'm sure SC will point this out to me . Just want something to keep me from drooling over the screenshots for BCM because its not healthy for my keyboard.

Don't worry about me, I feel sorry for the enemy both me and my wife love co-oping My only problems are keeping myself occupied till it comes out, although the Ta units are giving us some big laughs. Take care all.

Thankyou Phased, just finished downloading them all, me and my sadistic core playing wife are going to be trying out all these units against each other tonight. I am getting a little worried though I mean I've seen my wife destroy every car in carmagedon two, waste many a monster in Everquest, terminate many a player in UT with the resounding shouts of Headshot/Godlike/Ultrakill and the loving reception I recieved when she uncloaked behind me in klingon academy yelling DISRUPTORS FIRE!!, I just wonder do I really want to be in the same multiplay universe as her with her commanding a battle cruiser, I mean SC do you have any idea of the trouble she could cause (especially after she looked through the screenshots and was commenting on the weaponry available).

*Sigh* another games company goes down, Cavedog who created my favourite forms of strategy has gone down, I don't know how or why but just like the loss of Looking glass technologies it makes me feel like we are loosing more and more of the ideas people and they seem to always be replaced by bean counters . As a game player it worries me, I see a future where mega corps like Hasbro publish only the formula games with accountants as production leaders. Who can we blame, I do feel that piracy definetly plays its part in hurting the small guys. I for one will miss these companies and wonder what great games would be created with them still around.
