  1. The problem with launching all your assets around a friendly station is that you might come back and find some of your craft SOS or destroyed. AI pilots will engage hostiles anywhere in the region if u leave them on default SAD orders. With pilots below 50 AI, I couldn't advise this tactic, it's cheaper just to shut off launch control, walk back to ur shuttle and then u won't have to worry about losing assets when u r out-of-system.
  2. Curious. Were you planning on revamping the forums as well?

What use is applying with the database? quote:As of right now...for Fleet Action.Yet to play in Fleet Action one needs the updated, upgraded version of Universal Combat that the servers will support. For Fleet roleplay one simply needs access to this forum. Were the fleets intended as an advertising vehicle? quote:Way back when...before there was MP in the game, Fleets interacted with each other via RP threads. When MP materialized, most of the Fleet interaction moved on to MP matches to include the current Fleet Action. There was still some RP, but it slowly started to become inactive. Unfortunately, Fleets are a shadow of their former selves with a lot of the people just moving on or whatever. There is still a handful of active people in the Fleets trying to keep it going via Fleet Action, including Ben, Eclipse, Chavik, myself, etc.Yes, I remember Blades, Gallion, Chavik, aramike, Desylva, Tac, Rattler, Ben and Shingen. It just seems to me that these stories were the very reason for fleets in the first place, and once they died, so died the fleets. Just an observation.
  4. quote:Originally posted by ShoHashi: At this time, there is no one in control of the Gammulan Fleet. If no one controls the Gammulan fleet, how does one apply for membership? quote:I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps the current active fleet members just don't want to be part of RP for whatever reason. Then what is the purpose of a fleet? quote:That is not true. RP activity is not a requisite for fleet membership. -Sho Again, if some sort of activity (either MP nor RP) isn't required, nor expected, then why have them in the first place? Again, I'm just curious.. then there is this above: quote:Originally posted by Remo: The 3000AD fleets will no longer follow the status quo of inactivity that weÔÇÖve followed the last few years. All fleet members must contribute to the fleet by either RP or MP activity to maintain fleet membership. If you do not have the time or desire to do either please state your resignation here so that you can be removed from the DB and no longer receive any fleet notices by email. It seems to me that the fleets used to have a purpose..now they are just dead. Sad.
  5. Just curious here, but who's in control of the Gammulan fleet? Has it been dissolved? Also, why isn't there any fleet presence in RP? From what I can ascertain, RP activity seems to be a requisite for fleet membership, yet there aren't any fleets active in RP.
  6. [RP] Oct. 25, 3045 UCV-Minas Morgal Gammulan Megaron Heavy Cruiser running under bogus Insurgent IFF tags __________________________________ Out of the depth of unconsciousness, lucidity rose of it's own volition, like a lone bubble of air in a vast, black ocean of silence. Scent was the first of the senses to activate within his lumbering brain. Unpleasant but not unfamiliar. A smell that was reminiscent of children. Of his own first born. Diapers and changings..but he couldn't lock onto the idea entirely. It was still too far way, and escaped him. He vaguely became aware of his body, but his mind was swimming..then, unforeseen and unexpected, the pain assaulted him in an unforgiving and relentless wave of nausea. It washed over his entire being, but at least served a purpose. It wrenched him fully into the waking world. "Awake you carrion! I say again: Who here speaks for the rest? Who here claims responsibilty?" It took him an eternity for his eyes to adjust to the blinding, repressive light. He longed to crawl back into some blissful blackness, where there was no pain, no light, and no sound. But something within him made him push against the cold, hard metal floor and stand. Nausea again consumed him, but he mastered it. Slowly, he took back control and looked around him. Bodies were lying around him. They were familiar but he couldn't place where he was. The stench again assualted him, making the nausea rise again within him. "You! Human! You seem to at least have the salt to stand. If you wish to live, if you wish any of your kind to live, you will speak. You will speak or you all will die here. Now." He heard sounds. English..it seemed..or some form of it...horribly accented...almost incomprehensible. He tried to focus his eyes, but everything remained blurry and obscure. Where was he? He could not think. Thoughts would form and then disappear before he could grasp them. All he knew was nausea, dizziness and blinding light. Again the voice accused him. "Mi-Chan, come and help this pathetic human out of this cage. I cannot speak to him through all this filth. As you said, it is too disgusting. Clean him up and bring him to me in my chambers" "Instantly, Gwai'lar. What of the others?" "Leave them. I will decide on them after I have spoken to this Terran." "As you command." The Gammulan commander took another look at the wobbling human. "Hmmm, yes, This one seems to have salt. Treat him well Mi-Chan, or you will die with him." [/RP]
  7. Well, if u'r wanting any BC game to lead u around by the nose, and give you "objectives" that u either "pass" or "fail", then u'll be waiting a very long time...cause it ain't likely to happen. Outside the ACM missions, BC is a massive sandbox. Dereks gives u the sand, the box, and all the little toys therein, it's up to u whether it's "fun" or "boring". It's all about extent of imagination. If u have a large enough imagination, BC kicks major ass. If u'r brain-dead and need to be led by the nose, BC will bore u to tears. Really, all u need to do is wait. Before u know it, BC will rise up and turn u'r maxed out, fully upgraded CC into floating slag and frozen body parts. Food for thought.
  8. You have to turn the autopilot off and shut off power to the engines in Logistix before you even try to leave. That way, when ur gone, none of ur crew can take off and crash land ur brand new CC into the side of a mountain. Hell, sometimes, I'll even launch my shuttle, land and exit it, then walk back to the CC and turn off launch control before I leave the planet. Just in case.
  9. Actually, all u gotta do is launch them in a hostile region and the idiots will jump to the enemy star-station all by themselves, and get toasted before they even get outta hyperspace. You have to have two pilots assigned or the FC won't launch. Then just clone and buy a new FC. Problem solved.
  10. quote:Originally posted by dingbat91: and thanks BC_Vet i know it makes the game unstable but hopefully just using the money code (only one i want) won't make too much of a diffrence... i hope -ding Well, from experience, playmod isn't a good way to get money for BC gaming anyway, as the game will almost always crash and make any playmoded savegame unplayable anyway. Why not just use the GalCom-Wraith traderun? You can make several billion credits in a few hours in a shuttle. Or, if u are in a hurry, trade AD items from GalcomHQ, for HT items from Genesis.
  11. I have GBS II as a zip file, but I don't know if I'm allowed to give it out or not. If Derek says it's ok, I would prolly email u a copy.
  12. If you can find GBS II somewhere, it should work. Does it come with the freeware release? Playmod can make the game very unstable and crash prone though, so use it at ur own risk, and save often.
  13. [RP] Oct. 25, 3045 UCV-Minas Morgal Gammulan Megaron Heavy Cruiser running under bogus Insurgent IFF tags The Gammulan commander proceeded through the turbo-lifts, on through the corridors and sub-sections, on his way to the detention hold. The Megaron carrier was a spoil of war and captured from the field of battle. It was lined throughtout with debris and broken conduit. Sparking and hissing plasmatic relays, masses of electrical wiring hanging from ceiling and wall, along with the dead and dying corpses of the ship's last defenders strewn throughout. On his way, he would pause periodically to encourage his small band of saboteurs, mostly marine and engineer castes of his race, hauling off the dead or dying to be ejected without ceremony into the cold void of space, or to help in moving a large chuck of debris that was blocking a corridor, or to repair a sparking conduit that might endanger one of his own. They were a small band, no more then 20 strong, but had proven more then a match for the Terran filth that had once infested this craft. Even though he was in command and dominant here, he had no problems helping where he was needed. Gammulans lived and died together. As one. Once he finally approached the entrance to the detention hold, a lone gammulan sentry instantly snapped to attention. "All told. Gwai'lar". Offered the lone marine. "Be at peace, Mi-chan", returned the commander, placing a blood-caked gauntlet upon the young marine's shoulder. "How fare the soon to be dead?" "20 souls await your judgement, Gwai'lar. May I have the honor of wasting their blood? They do not seem fit to breathe air, and their blood offends me, even from here. They do not willing choose death, but wallow in their own filth. It is disgusting." "Calm Mi-Chan. You must find your center. You are young and only hear the bloodlust within you. The battle is still new in you. Let that be your sustenance. We must keep this kel'lian alive for now. There can be much profit in this." "As you command, Gwai'lar. But I would have them all disembowled without delay. Let them feed the Gee'lach. At least they would serve some purpose, instead of drowning in their own filth." With that, the young marine turned and activated the detention access panel. The re-enforced titanium door opened without a sound. A wave of defacation, fear and death assaulted the Gammulan commander as he entered the room. Along with this smell was the ozone of the plasma detention fields that hissed and crackled and lite up the darkness with an eery, repressive glow. The wimpering and crying, coughing and wretching of the condemned, filtered through the electronic whine of plasma. Before him, in the darkness, were two rows of five cells each, stacked one on top of the other. Four of the cells each held five decimated and starving humanoids, Terrans all, almost all on the brink of death. Breathing deeply the stench, and smiling at the defeat of his enemies, the Gammulan commander walked to the closest cell, deactivated the plasmatic field, and stated in his clear, strong voice of command: "Who here speaks for the rest? Who here claims responsibilty?" [/RP]
  14. It sounds like u should uninstall, kill the dir, and reinstall again. I might have a FUBARed install. I tried the freeware version and didn't have any problems typing anything into the name fields. However, the game wouldn't run at over 1024x768 res. fer some reason, so ur YMMV. I know BCM was written pre-pentium IV, so u'r duo processor might be too fast for the game, but only Derek would know anything about that.
  15. Is there an underscore cursor in the Name - Asset Name fields? Try right-clicking on the field areas to bring up the underscore. You might change ur Num Lock, Scroll Lock and/or Caps Lock and see if that helps any. I know in BCM-G that if I change my Cc type, without entering the Name - Asset Name first, it'll lose the underscore cursor and I won't be able to type anything into those fields till I click on one of them. Also, did u try using any other slots?
  16. [RP] Oct. 25, 3045 UCV-Minas Morgal Gammulan Megaron Heavy Cruiser running under bogus Insurgent IFF tags "Secondary target eliminated. Primary target within visual range. Re-engaging cloak. 8 minutes before radiation leak becomes critical." The Tactical officer re-read her instruments and, pausing for a moment, offered: "Should we engage the Primary?" The Gammulan commander glared at the TacOps screen feeling the blood-lust rise. He still had enough time, still being cloaked, to destroy the Galcom cruiser drifting within range of his weapons lock. But that would risk his mission and alert his presents. Even though his ship was running under false Insurgent codes, he still could not afford to provoke the anger of the Terrans, too close to their homeworld. That wasn't his primary mission. "Disregard Primary target. Remain cloaked until we enter Treas and then proceed as instructed." The Gammulan commmander sat quietly at his command station and watched his crew follow his orders. The Treas jumpgate filled the main Bridgeview, dwarfing the crusier with it's immense size. And with a brilliant flash of molecular light, the heavy cruiser was atomized and re-assembled several light years from where it was. Instantaneously. "Reading a stable jump into Treas, Commander." "Proceed as ordered..." He rose from his command chair and turned. "Notify me when we are in range." [/RP]

    Dead

Hell I've been trying to spark a decent BC RP for months now.. no one seems to be into the whole BC mythos anymore.

    Dead

Yeah..no one wants to RP though.. go figure.
  19. Kewl story, but ur formating hurts the eyes. Here is pretty much the standard for BC RP (just my opinion, as there are alot of really good BC RPs). Double space paragraghs and dialogue...and/or whatever compliments the ease of reading comprehension and immersion.
  20. Old thread I know, but does anyone else wanna RP this? I'm game.
  21. Yeah. I forgot about the SOUNDFX.INI file. Much easier doing it Derek's way. Go figure. The playlist tunes are in MP3 format, and to change the songs just either, import new ones, or use winamp. Winamp works great (in the background) with every BC game I own...and I pretty much own every one (except for the redundant releases).
  22. Actually an easier way would be to create new sound files and rename them and copy/paste over the UC sound files you were changing.
  23. Sure, at least I would think so. Just find out which dir. the "mother" sound files are located. Then change the sounds without changin the files' names. It's been awhile since I've had UC installed, but for BCM-G the computer sound files are in: ../soundfx/officers/mo.zip. As long as the file names within the zip file remain the same it should work. I think most of those sound files have been in use since BC3K 1.0 anyway.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. GamlnKiller: Good blind spot...First cloack far away from the station, The real trick is capturing a station, in a cruiser, without a cloak.
  25. Nah..probes just allow you to monitor regions of space that you are not in. You have to dock to a station to access the Tradcom/Info screen. The appendix is also a good sourse of info, but ingame, it's not of much use.
