Hi, I have a Voodoo2, and the monitor goes out of sync after I play bc3k and then try to start it again.

Let me explain. I start the game, and everything's fine, some T.V show comes on that I want to watch, so I exit bc3k normally, QUIT. Now after watching T.v I come back and start it again, the monitor goes out of sync. I can hear the music. And the game just keeps going, all the way to the starting menu, which is when the monitor comes back on, and it's in windows with a dialogue box saying

"this program has performed illegal op."

So in effect, if I play a session of bc3k, and I exit normal, I always have to reboot before I can play it again.

has anyone had this trouble? Can anyone help?

v2.08

Yes, and I didn't see one at first. Because the threads topic didn't properly identify it. But Somewhere I read, about switching to 2 mb of texture memory, that solved, the out of sync error. So I can exit and restart bc3k normally now without having to reboot.

Now I'm hoping that I don't have the boot back to desktop, 'fault protection error' now.

Would limiting glide apps to 2mb of texture memory make bc3k run slower? Like less frames?

I have this problem as well. I've had it from 2.08 through 2.09G. I play with texture memory limited to 2mb cause if I don't it seems to crash even more than normal. I have to reboot everytime I exit the game or it doesn't work.

Limiting the texture memory to 2MB has nothing to do with BC3K. It is a problem with the 3DFX DOS Glide API and drivers.

The reduced texture memory does not result in lower frame rates.

Hi! I had the same problem with my voodoo2, there is a workaround though so you don't have to reboot. Click your right mouse button on your desktop select properties and then voodoo2 properties and go back by closing properties. This takes less time than rebooting.

I don't know why but after playing bc3k with voodoo2 (I had Orchid Righteous) bc3k and all "dos based" programs caused out of sync. If I checked voodoo2 properties there was no texture or any other memory for voodoo available. But after returning to desktop and going back to check the properties all lost memory was back!

Why it does that, I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with refresh rates. Anyways this is the only way I avoidid rebooting.

Hey yeah same thing. I noticed all the memory was reading 0. Then I go in, just push ok. Instead of cancel or anything else, and bc loads as normal. Do you also have the problem where it boots you back to desktop after an hour or so?

Unfortunately I usually haven't got time to play over an hour, but yes, I remember getting booted back to desktop few times. I got it solved as per FAQ memory/config settings. So, I don't think it has anything to do with your voodoo gard. I have just upgraded to voodoo 3 and the problem has not been haunting me anymore.

Hi! Since last post I had time to try out the new patch. I let roll for about three hours in ACM mode without any problems. I lost two of my IC's, but what the heck.

LOL, if you think that's bad, I got a story for you. But it would be deleted.

Anyway down to my question, I'm posting it here so as not to start a new thread.

ok I don't know how to do that QUOTE thing so I manually quote

Quote

'Figures. Never use old save games with new beta versions!'

If I patch to 2.09 Final when it's out. Can I use my old save games form 2.08? I have not patched to any of the candidates as yet.

Just want to make sure.

War stories; do a search but this one is really interesting. http://www.bc3000ad.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000260.html Old but cool. Got a really good new one? Post it. Haven't seen a war story in a while. They are usually put in General Discussion.

At the top of the page; just under the "post reply" button; is a faq link. That is this board's faq (ubb code) and not a BC3K faq. It explains quotes, urls, and smilies there.

Last paragraph: NO!!! smile.gif Do not use old saved games with any new version. If an updated version tries to tell an old saved game something it doesn't know about you are asking for troubles.

what?? But I've captured IDAN and all.. a strategic point. And got so many millions. and have thousands of ep.

So I really have to start over, unless I want to get all sorts of errors right?

And I had nearly all my scre %30 ai too.

so do I delete the save games from BC? Or do I delete them manually in DOS?

If you delete them from within Roster, they will be deleted. Just check the SAVE folder, to be sure. Thats where all the profiles are kept.

Ok, I'm sorry about this, but I have another quick question. I just want to be sure, so as to get the most out of my graphics.

Gouraud shaded textures is the highest setting for space graphics right? Or does texture mapped look better? It didn't say which is the highest setting in the manual.

Yeah, you're right, gouraud shade textures is highest for space.

Hi. I haven't posted here in a long time, but I have been playing BC3K for quite a while.

But recently I started having problems with my computer. I have a Monster 3D II card.

After I thought I got the game to work again, I still have one last issue. It's just like the one mentioned earlier. I can run the game once, but if I quit and try to play again my monitor goes out of sync.

I read that they went into properties and opened up the voodoo 2 properties and then clicked okay. But whenever I try to open up properties after running the game, I get an error message reading: Mutual exclusion prohibits this.

What is going on? Can anyone help me here? I'd really like to be able to play the game more than once, before having to reboot the system. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, SC. I checked my video card drivers and tried to update them again.

It turned out that the whole time I thought they had been updated, they weren't. Leave it to Diamond to make one of the most difficult to understand upgrade instructions.

Anyway, I appreciate the response, and it's great to have the SC reply himself. I'm sorry if I wasted any of your time.
