Hey guys I'm new to BC3K but I've had a problem with the game. First of here are my specs.

PII 400

128 RAM

Windows 98

NVida TNT2 Video Card

Monster 3DII Accelerator

BC3K installed in C:BC3000AD

Patched to v2.09 (intially v2.00)

Here's my problem. The first time that I load BC3K after a clean boot, the game starts just fine. After I quit and try and restart it my monitor goes into standby mode and I do not see anything as the game is loading. I can hear music but no video. Now is I hit ESC it boots me back out to windows. If I hit ALT-TAB I go back to windows and BC3K is still in the task bar but if I open it up again it just puts the monitor back in standby. It does this for 3Dfx mode, software and when running the sound setup utility. Now if I reboot the computer it will go through the exact same cycle. I tried doing what the FAQ's says and to no avail. The only thing I did see when it starts the program after a fresh boot is a line in dos that says "Cannot open INI file (HMISET.CFG)" I have no idea what this means. I did a search for it and is not even on my computer. Please someone help me I can't figure this out. I've searched the for and haven't really found anything similar to my problem. Thanks in advance.

Did you run the sound setup program first?

Are you using the 3DFX drivers on our site?

Are you using the BC3K (3DFX) icon to run the game?

Hey SC yeah I did run the sound setup and found a post on the forum for that. I am using the 3Dfx drivers off the site and I use the BC3K (3Dfx) icon to launch the program. I tried to set the .BAT file so that when it crashed it would remain open so I could see what the problem was but the Dos window never stays open. It crashes out to windows and closes everything. I tried changing the Intial envriornment setting to 4096 and the DPMI memory to 16384 but it still does the same thing. I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to use the /v82 for the nvidia chip but that didn't work either. Got anymore suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well, EricD, "Uncle Rattler's" having this same trouble at this very moment. I think it's a fouled config file at the moment. I'm going to install the whole thing again. I recommend you do the same. I'll let you know.

Yeah I've done that like 4 or 5 times now and it keeps doing the same thing. Oh well let me know what happens.

If you are using the 3DFX version, the /v parameter is irrelevant.

Anyway, that monitor going out of synch has to do with the refresh rates for the Glide card. Nothing to do with BC3K. In fact, the bc3k3dfx.bat file sets all the parameters that are needed. When in doubt, check out the FAQ.

Found my old nemesis again SC! You guessed it! config file was hosed! It was getting corrupted while I was congiguring my Joystick. Here's a lesson from the past kiddies! IF you go into the configuration from the main screen and then change your mind instead of completing the transaction, it might just corrupt your config file. This leads to black screens with background sounds. Word to the wise also, if you are doing a complete reload, do a complete reload! That means select uninstall from your control pannel, say yes to BC3k.ini file deletion, then go to your drive where it was installed and delete the entire BC3000ad folder. Dump your waste basket and start fresh! biggrin.gif

Well I think I found the problem. I did another search on the forum using "voodoo 2" and I found a post about the vsync and what's happening is when I load the software mode after a clean boot I don't have any problems restarting the game after quitting. Now if I do the 3DFX version for some reason the Frame buffer memory gets locked up and if I right click on the desktop and go to the voodoo 2 properties and click system info it says that the Frame buffer memory is 0 instead of 4. If I click ok and check it again it is back up to 4 and the program works fine. Go figure. I'm not sure how to fix this so if anyone has some insight let me know. It seems like it is voodoo 2 specific. Anyway thanks for all your help.
