I have tried the 2.0-2.08 patch on my 2.0 version but I keep getting an "old file error"(bc3000ad.gld). I also tried the 2.07-2.08patch but with the same result.I'm sure I've done everything the way it is explained in the faq. Please help me out if you can.

Thanks

Since you didn't post the exact steps you went through on the install... here's what you should have done:

Install BC3KAD v2.0. copy/save the 2.0-2.08 patch into the BC3000ad folder the game was installed into then run that patch. IF that was successful then do the same for the 2.08-2.09 patch... IF you did this and are still haveing the problem then UNINSTALL the game, DELETE the BC3000ad folder and start over....

yep, what aramike01 asked.... what version is your cd?? It needs to be 2.0...

Considering you've tried both the 2.0 - 2.08 and 2.07 - 2.08 I'm curious as to what in the heck version you're running now. You're not trying to patch up from version 1, are you?

When I start the game I first get the little movie ("bc3000ad" etc.) then a bunch of phrases run over the screen and the first one of them says: version 2.0 release A

So I figure it's version 2.0

The patches are in the right folder, that's not the problem, but when I try a patch it gives an error about the file bc3000ad.gld:

It does have the right name but the contents do not match so it won't update.

That's about all the info I can give you.

Thanks for reacting this fast; at least I'm not alone with this problem now.

I'd recommend that he un-install, start from scratch, and configure his initial install. Run the game and use the Cntl+V keys to see exactly which version he has. Then report back with the results. There are many possibilities that could be wrong, ie; bad install, bad patch download, Wrong patch file size, etc; All of these could cause his problem.

OK I reinstalled the game, ran a setup, ran the game and checked the version by pressing ctrl+v,it said version 2.00. Then I copied the 2.00-2.08 patch to the bc3kad folder and ran it.

Result:"Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update since file contents do not match."

Any suggestions ? coz I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

You can only tell which version you are running either from (a) the Blue install screen (B) in the game.

I suggest that you go to control panel, uninstall and re-install. Then look at the version number listed on the Blue install screen.

I would also suggest actually deleting the directory where BC was installed (usually c:BC3000AD) and also make sure that the Bc3k.ini file is deleted from your windows directory. Uninstall should clean-up for you but since you're already having odd trouble you should take the extra precautions.

Tyrn's right - I recall that I had similar troubles and deleting the BC3K folder after uninstall resolved them. In fact, I believe that's in the good ol' FAQ.

This is getting irritating...

I have done everything you guys told me: I deleted the whole bc3kad-folder I reinstalled the game(it is definitely version 2.0), ran setup, tried the patch and it still won't work.

My suggestion is that someone mails me the file bc3000ad.gld from a 2.0 version and I 'll try to replace the old file.

I've installed it to C:bc3000ad but that doesn't make a difference because if it was in another folder the patch adapts automatically; at least it did when once installed the game to D:bc3000ad

Dang it! I knew I had seen this before! What's the file size of the patch? Chavik and I had that problem once. Turns out that we were trying to patch with a file that had dropped some bits in the download. File looked good but was, I think, about 60 bits shy of a full load! Kept giving us that same message when we tried to install the patch! frown.gif

For reference, I just downloaded the 2.0-2.08 patch. The properties say:

Size: 4.95 MB (5,199,772 bytes)

Size on Disk: 4.96 MB (5,201,920 bytes)

Does yours look like that after download?

The directions say very explicitly that the patch must be copied to the install directory or it will not work. Copy the patch to the install directory and then run it.

The patch will auto detect and patch if it's the right size and right patch. What it won't do, unless placed in the bc3000ad directory is create the .bak folder in there so you can unpatch if necessary. Now cut him some slack. Having the patch in the bc directory isn't his problem I don't think. He's still got a mismatch there somewhere.

Now please provide your patch size as I previously requested.

First of all, Tyrn, my reply which you quoted was an answer to the question "To which folder have you installed the game?" The only thing I was trying to explain was that I once tried to install the game to another part of my hard-drive (D:). The patch always was in the same folder as the game(I'm not that stupid). I realize the answer was somewhat misleading but English is not my first language so I have some trouble expressing myself.

I checked the properties of the 2.00-2.08patchfile and it said:

size:4.95MB (5.199.772 bytes)

Now is that a good or a bad thing?

My humblest apologies. I reread your message and don't know how I misunderstood it, but I sure did. The really sad thing is that my install directory is D:BC3000AD! > What------------------

Well everyone, I have the EXACT same problem and my specs are as follows:

Version 2.0

Windows 2000 Pro

Pentinum III 650

File Size 1.92 MB (2,020,474 bytes)

On Disk 1.92 MB (2,023,424 bytes)

I have tried patch 2-2.08, 2.07-2.08, 2.08-2.09 and all give the same error and I am sure I have done EVERYTHING correctly. Anyone think the patch is messed up or has a bug in it?

Posted

I've had to patch several time because of reformats or just reinstalls, and I have never had this problem. BTW Michael2k, does the game even RUN on your system. I tried it in an early version of win2k and it didn't for me. Also I don't think win NT/2000 is supproted, remember some thread on this some time ago.

Eclipse, thank you for your input, I appriciate it, yes it does run and as for Supreme Cmdr, try being a professional, obviously you were wrong, DOH? Is that a professional term?

You do realize he coulda said "Duh!" instead Michael.... and I can count with both hands and feet (and quite a few other people's) the number of developers who are "unprofessional" by your rather odd standards and yet still manage to kick much ass. I'd assume you've never read any of Jeff K's interviews (or "intarviews") with other developers?

..Bah, I'm ranting. Just cool off buddy. The last "professional" gaming-related person I heard of ended up cancelling the Babylon 5 game for crap like "Professional" (there's that damn word again) Bull Rider. I personally prefer SC the way he is, and I'm sure everyone else here does too. But anyways, lets not get too off-topic here, I just couldn't let this one slide. If I'm out of line, I'll be keeping the airlock pressurized smile.gif

Michael, there is a differance between not being supported and not working. Not supported means that if it works there for you thats great, but the software wasn't designed to that OS.
