Pedro Pablo Laracuente Posted July 23, 2001 Report Posted July 23, 2001 I just downloaded the free version of BC3000AD v2.09 and installed it to C:BC3000AD. I read the readme and the FAQ and i didn't find anything related to my problem. When i try to run it, the opening movie stops and then the DOS window appears. After it gets finished (when all the documentation appears) a black screen appears and i can't do nuthin. My pc doesn't respond to any keyboard command except ALT+CTRL+DELETE when pressed twice. Windows 98 PIII at 700MHZ 128MB ram SiS 630 graphic card w/16 mb of shared memory. 20GB HD (8GB free)Any help will be highly appreciated. ThanksCmdr. Pedro Laracuente

Nope, nothing is failing to load or to work right except the opening movie when it quits (when the interceptors are flying in the asteroid field), at the start of the text in the DOS window something like this appears: INVALID COMMAND (and some numbers). Everything else works right until that shiny black unoperable black screen appears. I also tried to load the game in vesa mode but nothing different, only the same nice black screen. Cmdr. It disabled the intro movie and the INVALID COMMAND doesn't appear anymore, however everything else goes the same way. I keep ending with the amazing unoperable black screen. I just opened BC3K.bat with notepad and added the /N to the last line. I think that i saw something related to that in the FAQ. However i still have problems with that AWESOME black screen. Apollon Posted July 24, 2001 Report Posted July 24, 2001 hmm, i get almost the same thing when i try to watch the intro. only that my "inoperable black screen" disappears after a few seconds, and i get to see the menu without further problems. so i disabled the intro. not that i feel sorry for it. i hate metal music p.s.: today i managed to 1. get 3dfx to work with the game, (and IT ROCKS ) and 2. get to hear sound (had to buy a new soundcard for that), but that rather doesn┬┤t rock... any ideas how i can replace some sound files anyone ?

Read the FAQ on this.

When i typed mem on a DOS window i got only 593K If that's it i will try to get more based on Wold replies.

And I love the MIDI, but with a Roland Sound Canvas it's rather hard for any song to sound bad... There's a lot more babble going on, too, and it's easy to get confused when in the middle of a 10 ship furball. Especially when the bridgeviewer is going haywire from the EMD. I typed the number (59) in the .bat file but nuthin, the same story again. The line looks like this bc3000ad /d1 /n /v59. Now the problem is on my video card, and i am going to buy a new GeForce2 in the coming weeks. Then i will recover my shared ram and get away of that foolish SiS card. That's all. But i still don't understand why i can run all the other games i have with no problem (these include some old DOS games). Cmdr. Pedro Laracuente
Supreme Cmdr Posted July 24, 2001 Report Posted July 24, 2001 BC3K is a DOS game, so, thats probably the problem.However, if it detects it and you use /v59, then there could be something wrong with its VESA mode or the detection. Try /v1 and see what happens.Also, are you SURE you installed it correctly, path etc?Did you run the Sound Setup program, tested it etc? Even if you can't run the sounds, you HAVE to configure it and select NO for both sound options, then save the config file.How about joystick? Do you have one connected? Did you try unplugging it temporarily?
