rjy01 Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 I know the SC said BC3K probably won't run on Win ME, but I thought I would try it since others seem to have had some success. Here's my problem: after clicking the icon (non 3DFX) and the movie finishes, three quarters of the screen is black and the menu on the upper third of the screen. The menu itself is scrambled (music plays normally). To close the game, I have to use CRTL-ALT-DELTE to bring up the close program box. Per the FAQ, I freed up as much memory as I could in the DOS box and used the chipset info file so I could edit the BC3K.BAT and BC3K3DFX.BAT files with the appropriate switch (v/82). Am I missing anything? Or should I just play the game on my dinosaur computer at work?Specs: PIV 1.4 256 RDRAM GeForce 3 card Turtle Bearch Santa Cruz sound card 40 GBHD
Cmdr Nova Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 I'm not sure.... It works on my Win ME Machine. If you can go into Display Properties->Settings->Click on Advanced, and look around for an option for Composite Synchronization, try to disable/enable it. On my computer, my monitor can't recieve some screen formats at certain refresh rates, and the DOS Full-Screen screens seemed to be the only ones doing it.It's hard to explain. Anyone else know what the hell I'm talking about? Or is my POS Intel Celeron System finally getting the better of me? [ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
R_wilco Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 I have an intel celeron sysem too Even worse, I have intel integrated video! But I had that same problem. What I did was(without using 3dFX) upgrade my BC3K to 2.09(I have the 2.0 CD), then edit the game's batch file, bc3k.bat, so the line for the game looked like this:bc3000ad.exe /v1Thus setting the video vard to standard VESA. It said in the batch file that that's what you should do if you have video problems or are unsure of your video card.
rjy01 Posted September 2, 2001 Author Report Posted September 2, 2001 I added the /v and...it works! Thanks for the assist guys!
CrusierMan826 Posted October 28, 2001 Report Posted October 28, 2001 i am having the same problem can you post a link for the chipset info because they aren't on the website anymore
Pedro Pablo Laracuente Posted October 28, 2001 Report Posted October 28, 2001 Do you have the boxed version or the free one? I have the free bc3k and it includes the chipset info. Did you try adding the v1 to the bc3k line in the .bat file.Laracuente out.
CrusierMan826 Posted October 29, 2001 Report Posted October 29, 2001 boxed 2.7 version I have a S4 card
Cmdr Nova Posted October 29, 2001 Report Posted October 29, 2001 CrusierMan826, go to theBC3k Downloads page, first and update to 2.09. (You'll need to do 2 patches: 2.07 to 2.08, and then the 2.08 to 2.09. Just like Tribes 2's one-by-one patching method.) --- I found the link for the Supported Cards page and the CHIPSET INFO utility, but both are 404's (they're not on the server anymore). Here's a link to a copy to it, though.Since your card isn't on the list, you just do /v1 which forces the default VESA driver. For reference, if your card is on the list, you take the number next to it ("82 nVidia Riva TNT", would be number 82), and put it in next to the /v?. So if you had a Riva TNT, you'd do /v82 on the shortcut. And even if you find something similar, like Intel i740, or 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee / Voodoo 3, don't confuse it with something else, like an Intel 810, or Voodoo 4/5. Most brands usually make all their models sound similar. Make sure you've got the exact one. I can't stress that enough. (Because I was a fool to try it myself, against the commands of the instructions.) I would upload the Chipset Info utility (which tells you what number to use on the /v?), but if you're experienceing any problems with the game or graphics, it won't do anything special, because the game uses the same auto-detect method; as in, what it detects is what BC3k detects. And, if forcing the native driver (seeing list, and changing /v?) doesn't work, just go back to /v1. ----- Um, when reading the Troubleshooting FAQ, I checked this out, which points out the S4.... I'm too lazy to delete everything above, so I'll just leave it; anyway, it just might help some other folks looking for the solution. Bye now! quote:If your card is detected as VESA, this means that the chipset is not supported directly by BC3K or, the auto-detect is failing (Savage 4 cards for instance). In which case VESA 2.0 or 3.0 emulation (which is usually slower than using the native chipset) will be used instead of native mode. In the case of Savage 4 cards, if the BC3K.BAT file does not contain /v1 and the graphics are corrupt, then add it manually, by opening up the file in Notepad.
CrusierMan826 Posted October 31, 2001 Report Posted October 31, 2001 The problem from the begining was after the little green planet thing and the thing that says it is loading drivers and stuff the screen stays black but i can still click menu buttons. o and i did the patches and everything and did the /v1 switch and it still didn't work

Rico Jansen Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 Ehm, "WinME", "unsupported", "nobody having a clue, if there is any".I'm sorry you payed money for the game and not getting it in a working fashion, but you can't expect people to help or give the answer. Certainly not if your system doesn't adhere to the requirements.Did some fishing for you. According to this product page from compaq.com that card is 8MB allocated max. I don't know much about the new vid cards thesedays. Or anything about compaq's products. But this doesn't compute to your 32 mb, if you ask me.Oh, and you did execute those patches inside the bc3k folder? Just asking to be sure.[ 11-07-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
Supreme Cmdr Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 quote:Originally posted by CrusierMan826: Whats taking so long i posted on the second of november my system specsCould it be because the game is not supported under WinMe?
CrusierMan826 Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 I bought the game when i had my old computer which was running win98 and the vid card question in the bios set up you can set it to 8 16 32 megs of ram allocated for a vid card and i tried it on every one and it didn't work
Rico Jansen Posted November 8, 2001 Report Posted November 8, 2001 If your bios says you can allocate 32 MB, doesn't mean your vid card agrees with that. I'd put it back where it belongs just for safety. And I'd also put win98 on that thing. But that's just personal pref. Extremely good chance that's your bugger there. LoseMe
