Small issue re-entering my CC

Hello, time for another question. I was in a bad fight and my CC (Firestorm) has been almost totally crippled. I sent my AE to the shuttle craft and I was going to make some parts runs to the nearest station. I set my ship to halt mode and left it in A/P so it wouldn't go anywhere, I left in the SC and verified my ship was there and after launching I realized I didn't load up any cargo that I can trade with to buy my parts (broke otherwise). I turned around and I targeted my CC in Tacscan and I hit alt-D to dock and nothing happens. I verified in the tutorial file this was the process to run and now I'm confused why I can't get back onboard my ship. I even exited the shuttle and spacewalked over to my CC and still couldn't board it there either. What course of action do I need to take in order to get my AE back on the bridge of my ship?

While in a shuttle use the RTB command.

I tried issuing it but the shuttle just sits dead in space.

The only things I can think of it that your Launch bay is severly damaged (which I doubt since you said that you just launched)or if you have damage to your nuclear reactor and your solar panels are not facing the sun your systems were shut down due to lack of power. The only way in is to put your AE into space (which you did) make sure you have the CC targeted, order your AE to fly to your CC and once within range hit Alt+D to enter the craft. Go to Logistix and see if you had systems shut down due to lack of power.

Oh yea, and if that doesn't work you can always try sticking out your thumb and hope a passing ship picks you up.

Or alternatively get back into your shuttle and tow your CC to the nearest starbase!

Ahhh!! that got it, when i left my ship, due to it being severely damaged in a recent fight it seems that I ran out of Radium (i think) and my reactor shut down so I couldn't re-dock with the ship. It was my own fault actually cause I was trying to cut corners at the Tradecom and squeeze as much money out of the resources that i DID have in order to get stuff that I didn't. Lost one of my cargo bays in the fight and all my spare parts just burned up in re-entry of the planets atmosphere. Thanks for the help, got me looking in the right place. I love the complexity of this game.
