It can't say wing commander, since it is not a rank, and the title for commanders who command a wing within a fleet is "Wing Leader." So instead of where it says Fleet Command, it might say "Intel & Espionage Wing Leader." All the WIng leaders would have that on theirs. All others would have nothing or maybe the wing name they belong to.

For members of the 77th, instead "Tactical Support Wing" they would just have 77th Tactical Support Squadron. Lt. Parker's would have "77th Tactical Support Squadron Leader" on his.

Anyway, those are my ideas. I like what you came up with Josh, good work.

Thankyou for the constructive feedback.

I'll play around with it over the next couple of days, see what I can come up with.

-What security clearance would a squad leader have. Would it be 1, the same as a wing leader, or 0, the same as a normal commander?

-I've managed to accomplish what you were asking, and am now going to start creating IDs for the rest of the fleet members. You can check the progress here.

Josh,

Squadron leaders would still have security clearance 0. Only Wing Leaders have level 1. That might change, let me think about it. For now use level 0 until we actually get someone in that role. That person will probably be Lt. Ryan Parker when he gets promoted to Major and takes control of the 77th.

Good work on those ID cards. Love those bar codes Little thought- how about putting little versions of the wing logos on the cards instead of the galcom logo? Maybe they won't look very good at that resolution, and we haven't got one for fleet command or Tac Support last I heard, so maybe it's not a great idea.

-About using the different logos; I have thought about it and I have all the logos on my computer. It's just a matter of playing adjusting the sizes and fading them out a bit. Not all that hard to do I suppose, I'll play around with it over the weekend.

OK, cool!

bit of a problem with the Defense wing Website- maybe it's because they only have netscape in my department, but the text is the same colour as the background.

Also, it'd be kinda cool to use the animated defence wing logo rather than the static one, since your sidebar is already animated with the pulsing green bars. Is that a problem to do? I know it takes a long time to load up, and maybe you can't combine java and flash, but just a thought (not necessarily a good one )

Is this new sig OK?

Hmmm.. I don't know what could be wrong with that text problem. I am using style sheets so it won't be that hard to fix when I find out what the problem is. Thanks for bringing that to my attention Ben.

Also, about the animated defense wing. It's a good idea and wouldn't be too hard to put into place. Do you still have the applet that you used for it?

Oh yeh. And the pulsing green bars are just animated gifs

I can see it fine now, but I've got IE5 at home, I can only tell you for sure next week, but it looks good so far

here is the Class file, (I gave you that link in the topic where you started talking about the Defence Wing site)

then insert the code from logo 5

or

logo 7 (my favourite)

wherever you want the logo to be. (obviously you can adjust the code to however you want, it works just like a standard gif animator)

and also download all the jpg files named in that code, and upload them to the same directory as the page in which you want the animated logo to appear

in case you're feeling lazy, here are the links to the jpg's

You'll probably want to fill the white background with whatever purple it is you've used for the sidebar.

Once you look at one version of the animation, you can view a different one almost instantly, there's no need to reload all the jpg's. So, if you want to be fancy, you could have slightly different versions of the animation on each page if you want

Thanks for that Ben.

I'm downloading all the materials now. I'm going to try converting the JPEGs to GIFs first, using error diffusion, and see how that goes.

So the next time you check on the site it should have the amimated defense logo. I'll get you opinion on the quality and if it's terrible I'll go back to the JPEG animator.

When I've finished with that I'll go and fix up that lil typo.

The quality of the gifs is pretty good, leave it as it is. I think the delay setting on the first frame is a little long, but you're the wing leader, so your call there. The logos on the cards look a little pale, try turning the brightness down and the contrast up a bit on them. Maybe they're a little small, too? I'm thinking maybe the Defence wing logo isn't so bad, but especially the Intel and Tacsupport seem a bit small.

The changes were only first run and open to comments and suggestions. I didn't have much time to do the logos, so they aren't scaled the same. I've already redone them and have the logo inserts sitting on my computer at home. I'll be uploading the new IDs a little later.

This answer to Ryker applies to everyone:

Any size pic will do, just not too small (the size that will be used on the ID will be about 60x60). Your face should be facing forward and not have any obstructions in front of it. I can do one of two things depending on the picture:

cut your whole head out and use your own shoulder shot, or
carefully remove your face and overlay it on one of the NPC commanders found here. This is fairly time consuming and the results may not be what you expect. For example, with the pic used on my ID, the only part that is actually me is the face. Everything else including the ears, neck and hair are fake.

So I will leave it up to you guys to decide. Just send me your pics and let me know what you want.
