Guest skeezix Posted September 23, 1999 Report Posted September 23, 1999 I'm in Free Flight Mode. Whenever I go to use the TACOPS, there are always one or two crafts I can't set waypoints for -- the arrow and add buttons are red and don't respond. Sometimes it's the BC, last time it was two of my Interceptors. I checked the crafts and crew -- all were OK. Please help. Thanks in advance
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 23, 1999 Report Posted September 23, 1999 Check out the manual. You'd be surprised!
Guest skeezix Posted September 24, 1999 Report Posted September 24, 1999 I did read the manual. I even did a search for the numerous instances of "Waypoints" throughout the manual. I can work the TACOPS in most cases. My question is, why are the arrows red for certain ships for no apparent reason. Why would it not allow waypoints to be set. Is there someone ELSE out there who can help me?
Charles Lindsey Posted September 24, 1999 Report Posted September 24, 1999 Section 18.3 ; second paragraph, second sentence. quote:If a unit name is displayed in red, it is not available for deployment but you can still set waypoints for it as normal. If this doesn't help and you actually cannot set waypoints for a craft when you are sure it is available you may have a deeper problem. Solutions: Don't used saved games after patching to 2.08. Ditch it and start new. Re-install and repatch. A file may have gotten buggered somewhere. That's a last resort but a relatively painless one. I just went and checked and the IC's were red because they were readying. SC-1 was red because it was destroyed. SC 2-4 were available (green) as they had crew. ATV's were red because they did not have crew. Try a new game. Oh, and get the new updated manual available on the downloads page if you haven't already. Or the pages update (smaller) if you've printed it. ------------------ Commander Chavik ICV Phoenix "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" Official BC3K Tester
Guest skeezix Posted September 26, 1999 Report Posted September 26, 1999 Thank you Commander Chavik. Thanks for the good advice. I know better than to try and re-use saved games on a new version. I started over from scratch. I checked and my current status is ICs 2 & 3 unit names are green signifying all is ok, but the waypoint arrows and associated buttons (place, etc.) are all red. Has that ever happened to you? [This message has been edited by skeezix (edited 09-26-1999).]
Charles Lindsey Posted September 27, 1999 Report Posted September 27, 1999 Err, no actually. Not the way you describe it. Section 18.2 page 111 of the manual. The "Add, Place, Target, Del, Launch" buttons are never red. They are simply greyed out if that option is not available. Add is always available. Click the add button and choose the command. Add another waypoint with a different command if you wish. In the waypoint box "Waypoint 1" may be red if no options were chosen for it. Hope that helps. ------------------ Commander Chavik ICV Phoenix "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" Official BC3K Tester
Guest skeezix Posted September 29, 1999 Report Posted September 29, 1999 I think I may have found a bug. Here's what I think the problem is. I did some research and went back a few save levels and found that at one point 3 of my Interceptors became heavily damaged because for some stupid reason I had turned off the charging system and was launching them without a full charge. I repaired all systems, but it seems one of the Interceptors will still not allow me to place a Waypoint for it. The PLACE button is always red. I even tried destroying it and replacing it with a new Interceptor -- same result. I guess I'm going to have to go back to a save prior to the charging oversight incident and go from there. But, that's my best guess as to why I can't set Waypoints -- I should be able to.Thanks.
rporter Posted October 23, 1999 Report Posted October 23, 1999 I have had the same problems with the "add" button not being available for IC's and the BC. I have run the game with the 2.08 patch from the beginning and have even wiped and restore all and have the same happen. I just end up using the other IC's as escorts for the IC's I can give waypoints too. If a solution or answer is found please let me know!!
Tim Walker Posted March 2, 2000 Report Posted March 2, 2000 V2.09 I'm getting this - waypoint ADD button red for IC1-3, OK for IC4. This is at the start of a restored ACM game and there has been no opportunity for combat and such. Perhaps the question is: What conditions make the ADD button unavailable?(Purpose for setting waypoints is to escort Diplomat1 with ICs)
Guest Den Dee Posted March 2, 2000 Report Posted March 2, 2000 yuck :-( just play it a couple more days, it'll be allright, telling ya... just don't hit yourself on the forehead too hard, when u are yelling "damn, was i stupid!!"oh, and make sure u press "add" button a touch longer....afaik, it might ignore the very short clicks.
Guest Posted March 2, 2000 Report Posted March 2, 2000 Or make sure to whack your monitor, it may be displaying wrong colors *evil grin*.No, seriously, play some more and read the manual ... if that doesn't work, play some more!------------------ Flt. Tim Walker Posted March 2, 2000 Report Posted March 2, 2000 Actually, I normally tow him to Majoris with a shuttle - cheaper than the all new Radine guzzling BC. Gives better scope for running away as well. Thought I'd try doing things properly(?) this time and give the fly boys and girls something to do while the shuttles are trading/mining making me some cash so I can take Zerin easier.
