Guest dnoyeB! Posted March 19, 2001 Report Posted March 19, 2001 I am very new here. I don't understand how there are fleets if this is not a multiplayer game? How does that work? Is there an objective to this thing, or is it just exploration like the Enterprise? When is BCM coming out now that I have exhausted the demo phase 1?
Guest Posted March 19, 2001 Report Posted March 19, 2001 Use the search function extensively, it's a wonderful way to find the info you need. Also we are basically RPG until the MP comes out, check out the fleets link on the main page and everything will be revealed. Also, the SC will be releasing some more demos as we go along with the beta, it is still testing and will not be released until the SC says it's ready and all us crazy betatesters quit doing silly stuff to make the SC crazy. So watch out for the next demos, they will be coming hard and heavy in the next weeks. ------------------ CMDR Jaguar GCV Armageddon, Starpath (Mars) Prime Fleet, Delta Wing ICQ# 24007233 External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millenium
Guest dnoyeB! Posted March 19, 2001 Report Posted March 19, 2001 Wow. Search this, search that. You people here are beginning to sound like some of my college teachers who thought I only had 1 class...If I have to do this just to investigate whats goin on, im going to be frustrated. Im just trying to get a start, not asking how to launch a missle or complete a mission. People are tight with the info.
Guest Daggon Posted March 19, 2001 Report Posted March 19, 2001 Well Im fairly new as well but what kind of info did you want to know? The biggest question is where to start. That was mine anyway. PRINT OUT the manual first, its big, cumbersome and full of love. Then I would start a a new commander in free flight mode. First thing is probably mess around with your crew, assign people to ships and areas on your BC.After you get that try moving your BC around the earth region. Find the debrie field and fly to it using autopilot then figure out how to get your shuttles to collect the cargo pods there. Like I siad im fairly new to the game too but I screwed with that debrie field for about a week, been attacked there and learned how to use the weapon and shield systems. Learned how to mine sweep, load cargo with each shuttle, have the AI load cargo etc etc.Another cool thing you can do to learn some systems on the battle cruiser is fly to earths moon. (use the jumpgate thingy) and land there and deploy mineing drones and send probes into the rest of sol while your crew kicks back and brushes up on there skills. Jump in a ATV and cruise around.Actually ive had alot of fun just visiting the planets in our solar system, but ive learned alot just from doing cargo sweeps, mining on planet surfaces and then trading at starbases.Last but not least, keep the pages you printed out of the the keyboard commands in front of you at all times. Just start trying them if you dont know what to use or what to do. But they will give you some ideas on what to do next.Hope this helps!
Charles Lindsey Posted March 20, 2001 Report Posted March 20, 2001 Go to the Fleets info page and check out the training academy and Powercow's site. One or the other (perhaps both) has a walkthrough written by Commander Nava and will go a long way towards getting you started. "How do fleets work" Go to the main fleets page (also linked from the fleet info page) and read up a bit. It explains the goals of the fleets in more detail than here. Basically we are gathering for multiplay but this page explains the goals and objuectives of the various fleets. "What's the point" To have fun. Seriously. If you want to explore like the Enterprise have at it. If you want to go have a shoot 'em up battle go do that. The game is open ended allowing you to simulate (almost) whatever playing environment you wish for yourself. Be aware that NPC characters will still pop up to throw a wrench in your plans. Demo question already answered. Printing the manual? Never. Not with this inkhog 2000 I have. The adobe manual is terrific and has a pretty good search function. You choice of course.Anyway there are some links to get you started. Still some reading to do if you are interested but hopefull that will get you going. ------------------ Vice Admiral Chavik ICV Phoenix, Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Fleet Leader - Balor FleetOfficial BC3K Tester
Guest Daggon Posted March 20, 2001 Report Posted March 20, 2001 Ohh I forget sometimes that people dont have access to the laserjet printer I have at work. (no worries on ink, they got more )Maybe its a bad idea, i like to have the info while im in the game tho.
Charles Lindsey Posted March 20, 2001 Report Posted March 20, 2001 Heh, where I work that would be using your office for personal gain and an ethics law violation. Printing the manual is not a bad idea at all if you can do it. I just can't justify draining a $40 ink cartridge to print a manual. ------------------ Vice Admiral Chavik ICV Phoenix, Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Fleet Leader - Balor FleetOfficial BC3K Tester
Guest Daggon Posted March 20, 2001 Report Posted March 20, 2001 Hey Charles, I wondered where the getting started webpages were, i read about them here but didnt realize they were inside the fleets page. Also the one link to the tutorial works but he dont have much done on his page. That link to powercows must be dead because i kept getting a 404 error when i clicked on it. Do you know of any other getting started sites? Ive got most of it down now i think but some things I still cant figure out.Little things like where are all the cities/bases on planets. I landed on a moon, a damn insurgent on my ship somehow stole an interceptor (even tho i had my launch bay turned off) and so i shot him down. He ejected so i sent a shuttle out with an atv to kill him and the damn insurgent jumped in my shuttle and he and my marine in there both died. I tried to make my marine in my atv get in the shuttle but he would turn red and run around if i told him to join shuttle one.Heh those damn insurgents are sneaky, any idea how to get my shuttle back? Its probably still sitting on the moon in the rebalen system.
aramike Posted March 20, 2001 Report Posted March 20, 2001 Dagoon, if you cna't find cities or bases on planets, you'll need to download the map pak from the downloads page.
