Well, I bit the bullit and started a new Campaign (version 2.09), and discovered the hard way one of the new improvements in the game is how far a tank full of Radine Crystals won't get you. {It made me think of Gas prices in the early 70's as compared with todays}. 100 Radine used to get me twice as far without a refill as opposed to now, 1000 Radine gets me about 16 MPG. I've run out of gas in the middle of the desert (of space) and I left my cell phone back at GALCOM HQ. How can I get a tow? I have no gas to launch a shuttle. Also, what is a practical way to pay for the massive ammounts of Radine needed during a Campaign, when there is really no time to mine with back to back missions?

Tip: get power with your solar panels, and launch a shuttle to tow you.

Yes, radine goes down very fast, that's why upgrading the reactor and engine is critically important. At start you use 55 units per jump, with the Trellis/Numega combo, you use 10 units per jump. much of a difference.

Besides using your own assets to tow you, pressing Ctrl + T will call a tow ship, if one is there.

However, this will only pull you to the closest available station in that sector, and is not very effective if you need a ride back to Galcom HQ.

It is possible to mine between missions, you just need to be quick. If you start a completely new campaign, just load up your shuttles quickly with a marine/pilot and send them down to Earth and mine, then tell them to RTB. They'll take a while to catch up, but when you complete the campaign, you'll have a stash waiting for you back home.

PS Mining on Earth does not often pull up Radine.

Also remember, you don't actually need to do every mission. The game is very open.

You can mine a planet or moon, but you can also 'mine' space. At the end of a mission, or just whenever you have a decend stretch of time available, head over to a debris field. When you're in it (being in eiter the BC or shuttle), a number of cargo boxes should pop out. Get them while their hot!!! And I do mean they sometimes GET HOT. Had a number of premium upgrades and primary systems in those boxes. Use your shuttles to collect. There should be several threads about this subject laying around here, or in the tips section.

Forget about mining. Just trade Deflector Arrays from Earth to Polaris, with a shuttle!

You can run all the missions with your BC, and in about 20mins from initial launch, you'll have all the creds you'll ever need.

(I usually sell all of my spare-parts at Centris to get some working capital, since the first mission takes you thru Alpha Centauri anyway.)
