Enderlin Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 I found this tidbit from Bluesnews. quote:New Free Battlecruiser 3000 AD Release [8:07 AM EDT (Blue) July 20, 2001] - 9 Comments * This page on FilePlanet has version 2.09 of Battlecruiser 3000 AD for download, the latest version of the space epic now available as freeware, much in the same way version 1.0 was released on the Internet for free in early 1998 by developer Derek Smart to restore faith in the project after a failed commercial release that he blamed on the game being pushed out the door prematurely. The new release is 134 MB and contains the original BC3K v2.08 retail game patched with the BC3K v2.09 final patch, the map pak add-on, the BC3K Game Development System, all BC3K v2.0x game cheats, and the original script sources for all scenarios included in BC3K v2.0x. More details on this are in the accompanying developers update, and further word in the announcement we received about this is to expect the game's source code in a forthcoming book from Dr. Smart. Ok your thinking nothing new until you read the last line of the quote: quote:"More details on this are in the accompanying developers update, and further word in the announcement we received about this is to expect the game's source code in a forthcoming book from Dr. Smart. " Now my question is...is this true? And if so...then Wow! I mean why release the source code to "The Game" so that others could steal from you the unthinkable years you put into this game? But, then again SC you seem to do things that are out of the ordinary but, still...Wow!-Enderlin[ 07-20-2001: Message edited by: Enderlin ]
Guest Chimera Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 Look at today's GNN update for a veracity check...He's not planning on blabbing every proprietary piece of code to the world. (Not that releasing ANY of it isn't surprising!)
Eclipse Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 He hasn't released any of the code for the game. All that he has released is the GBS used to build the mission scripts for ACM and the original ACM scripts to use as a referance.
Enderlin Posted July 20, 2001 Author Report Posted July 20, 2001 I understand releasing the Scripts and stuff and the Quote covers that but, the last sentence states that the SC was planning on releasing source code in an upcomming book he is writing?? All I can say is if he is releasing it with an upcoming book then by golly thats gonna be a BIG book. He He-EnderlinPS. Ack! I just read the GNN. I am soo darn silly for not looking for confirmation on this site first before posting that quote hehe. Anyhoo still wow![ 07-20-2001: Message edited by: Enderlin ]

Rico Jansen Posted July 21, 2001 Report Posted July 21, 2001 If BC3K had ever any ties to Elite (or Elite 2 and First Encounters), read this.Coincidense or revolution?
