Guest jhnphm Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Can the BCM demo run (barely, with at least 15 fps) on a system with:Microsoft Windows 98 IE 5.5 GenuineIntel PentiumĀ® II Processor 96MB RAM 74% system resources free Windows-managed swap file on drive C (1196MB free) Available space on drive C: 1196MB of 3084MB (FAT32) Available space on drive D: 1252MB of 3084MB (FAT32) Aopen PA740 graphics card with 8 megs and i740 chipset SB16 ISA sound cardAlso, why not a stripped down free version, maybe ad supported. Unfortunately, the lowered cost of advertising means that probably won't work. It would also be unpopular and obtrusive, as well as requiring more programming effort and slowing down the game on already slow computers. It would be fun to blow up a ship with a microsoft ad on it, however.
Cmdr Nova Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 I see 2 problems in your way.1. You need a faster processor (at least 500mhz is recommended)....2. You need at least a 16mb GFX Card.... Nothing integrated either.Other than that, looks okay. More ram would help, but that's it.Okay, now you've got to start using your Orion Fleet sig, Cadet! Check the Orion Fleet Discussion Forum (here in 3000ad's site), as there is a thread on it.
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Unfortunately, BCM was NOT designed to cater to the lowest common denominator. So, unless you a system which can power it, you won't be able to play it.[ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Epsilon 5 Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 quote:BCM was designed to cater to the lowest common denominatorWhat's that supposed to mean?
Cmdr Nova Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 Perhaps he forgot to add the word NOT, in between was and designed.......... Isn't that right, SC?
Gallion Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 quote:What's that supposed to mean?CPU - 1.4ghz RAM - 512mb VID - GF3 Ultrahehehe, just kiding ... and Borg12 - time to upgrade that system IMO.TTFN[ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: Gallion ]
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 1, 2001 Report Posted September 1, 2001 quote:GenuineIntel PentiumĀ® II Processor yeah? And whats that mean then?
Guest jhnphm Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 At least the requirements actually are the requirements, unlike at microsoft. For example, the requirements for AOK is a 166 mhz PC, yet it runs fine on a 90 mhz that my friend has. Maybe Microsoft is conspiring with intel to make people upgrade constantly. From hearing people talk about MS's XP software, it seems Microsoft is writing sloppier code and taking advantage of the hardware to get away with it, so performance never increases. quote: yeah? And whats that mean then? I just copied the system specs out of sysinfo, editing it (not completely) to strip irrelevant information out.[ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: Borg12 ]
Guest $iLk Posted September 2, 2001 Report Posted September 2, 2001 I was able to get Episode 1 to run on a 300mhz p2 and 64mb ram, never tried Episode 2, but I run now on a 1ghz p3 with 256mb ram, the change IS noticable.I would recommend at least having a 1 ghz processor and at least 128mb ram by the end of the year if you are into process intensive Applications and Games.Unless of course minesweeper and solitare are your ideas of "hard-core" gaming
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 3, 2001 Report Posted September 3, 2001 quote:I just copied the system specs out of sysinfo, editing it (not completely) to strip irrelevant information out.Actually, what I meant was, WHAT speed is the PII running at? You didn't indicate that.
