Hello, everybody!

I am Kadil Ram, making my first appearance on the forums.

My favorite ship: Megaron heavy carrier. Don't ask me why - I couldn't tell you, except for the fact that it looks cool. Yes, that's a bad way of choosing a ship.

My favorite nation: Credians. Again, I couldn't really tell you why, except for the fact that they're supposedly "very advanced in exploration," which makes me think they know stuff the other nations don't, or that they have colonies in Andromeda or some other far-distant galaxy, and they might have a giant fleep or 12 waiting until Ronus IV is facing its darkest hour. . .

I've had this game since Wednsday, and so far, I like it a great deal, except for the fact that it has the strange tendancy to crash unexpectadly.

Check the GENERAL ISSUES AND STABILITY section of the troubleshooting faq (look in the DOCS sections of your BCM program group - Where's Nova? Surely he knows a url for the thing and I don't have one handy). I was crashing straight to desktop, followed the suggestions there and no problem since. NOTE this is not technical support just a friendly suggestion...DO NOT SHOOT!

Read this thread as it's fairly well mandatory information and welcome to BC.

I'm trying to update my profile and whatnot, but I can't for the life of me find my serial number. It's not on the little container that the CD was in - where is it?

What container? BCM comes in a Tyvex sleeve. The sticker that closes the flap, contains your serial number.

Hey - how'd you add the link to your system profile from the registration database in your sig like that? Very handy, it looks...

Mitchell: Here is an easy way to figure it out.

Under the Tech Support forum, take a look at the Important Announcements section and look at the Registration thread that the SC posted.

Scroll down until you reach the post where SC tells us to add the System Profile Info link to our posts and look at his example.

If you need help figuring the exact syntax for the link do this: See that little row of icons up at the top of the post-click on the one that has the "Reply with quote" tooltip or somesuch. This will allow you to see the source code for SCs example System Profile Info link. Once you are done writing down the syntax on a piece of paper, hit the back button on your browser (this is so you don't accidentally post a reply).

If you have registered, then visit the registration page and login to it to get the ID# which you will need to make the link work.

Kadil: The game CD should have originally come in an envelope made of a paper-like material. The serial number would have been on a sticker that was sealing the envelope shut. You need that serial number to register the game.

In that case I'd suggest you run (not walk ) back to the store where you bought, tell them your serial # is missing, and get another copy. Because I have an eerie feeling that if you don't find it we won't be seeing you around here much anymore...

I don't see HOW the sticker could be lost, since its stuck ONTO the Tyvex CDROM sleeve.

Describe to me the contents of the game box and what was inside etc. That whole container description sounds suspicious to me too.

Well, I bought it from Electronics boutique. Well, I use the word container, but it came in a paper-feeling sleeve, I suppose is the word you use, which, after going over it with a microscope, does not reveal any sign that anything was torn off it. Inside the box was a cardboard box with the manual, the key guide, and the sleeve. The inside of the box contains the letters "0000130 T6". The box has relatively little wear and tear on it, except that the sticker sealing the bottom part of the box is frayed slightly, and te top part of the box is opened. The key guide (Which has "Battlecruiser Millenium Game Commands" embazoned on top, and a nifty space map on the inside) also has no signs of anything being out of order. The box was wrapped in plastic, which was discarded earlier.

And that's my forensics report.

Heh. I threw away the Tylex sleeve, too. When I was going to log into the RegDB, I realized I hadn't written it down, and searched for it. At least I got to it and found it. If you really lost it, then you're dead (unless you can find it). Because you can't get your serial any other way.

If you're trying to get away with an illegal copy, then you're also dead.

My box just had a little sticker-type seal holding it shut. He might've gotten a returned copy, though. I know (I worked there for about a month last year - I don't know if this is still their policy) the EB near me seals any and all returns that are put back on the shelf in a plastic wrap. They always do a pretty crappy job, though, so it's easy to tell which games were return copies and which are unused .

By the way, if there was no sticker on the sleeve what was holding it shut?

Yes. Someone may have bought it, took the serial number, returned the game. And the EB sales person took it back in that condition and put it back on the shelf. That would explain the box being shrink wrapped.

Kadil, please take it back to the EB you bought it from and explain to them.

Also, send me info about that EB store, when you bought it, the conditions (as you have described here) etc to [email protected] so that I can inform EB management about this. That store should NEVER accept a return which does not contain the full materials or one which is damaged to the extent that the Tyvex sleeve containing the serial number is missing.

Kadim, don't worry about exchanging the game. I have asked Lisa to generate a serial number for you, because from your description, you seem to have a legit copy of the game. Be sure to have your EB receipt handy because we'll need it.
