haha... well have "Resnig X Games" see how far we can drag him behind a shuttle before he passes out.

see how high up we can drop him without actually killing him.

see how many rounds it takes to drop his HF to 1.

then after each event we'll take him to a supply station and have him patched up to increase his suffering

no shirt, no resnig, no xgames...

Actually, I like playing as unarmed trader at times. It helps me improve my evasive tactics. The better I plan my routes, the less likely I am to have the crap blasted out of me by some raider that I didn't know about. And for the ones that sneak up on me anyway, it let me have a shot at trying out some various "flee before I'm toast" strategies.

Hahahahaha!!! Yeah, Snipers love medics too...and since there is no Geneva(god I can't spell...) convention in the BC universe...well, sorta...the Paramedic ships arn't supposed to be destroyed...but they are far from invincable.

HiPingScoba...*looks at DNA test results of Resnig* whoa...I see you must have the same reports? Or maybe you just knew? Heh, very good. I'm supprised I havn't seen it sooner. Very good.

Well, I tried out a Paramedic career and I found it fun at first and alot less frustrating than a military commander career... I didn't have intruders onboard everytime I turned around, and actually nobody ever shot at me, even if they showed up as red on my radar.

Based at Earthstar I had a lucrative career towing disabled ships from many battles around Jupiter, collecting cargo pods, and mining Europa on the side. Really, though, after a point I said the same thing... what's the point?

Sure I was getting EP and cash, but for what? My ship, an LRT-15, could only have one level of upgrades all the way around, and I quickly obtained those. My crew never died, my shuttles were never lost, I never needed repairs, and I didn't need missiles, so most common things I need cash flow for in a Military game just didn't exist. Hell, I was even able to keep my radine tankage fully topped off.

I had to get rid of that game when I installed RC17, but I can't say that I'm too sad about it. I'm hoping that once boarding ships becomes a reality in the series that they'll be a new dimension in that particular caste... boarding to give medical aid to injured crew. It would be a ton more immersive than simply towing a ship back to the station.

If you don't get the point of the career, maybe you shouldn't be playing said career.

This is a point to EVERY race/caste/career in the game. Just because its there, doesn't mean you should play it - if you don't know what the point is.

Point taken Actually, I don't think it's so much a matter of what's the point of playing a particular career/caste, but what's the point of continuing to play it...

All the castes have a point, as you said, but outside of the military in BCM there's a noticable lack of depth after a certain period of playing, which is understandable since BCM is first and foremost focused on play in the Terran military, and the others are more like side games. I mean, after all the game isn't called Trader Millenium or Diplomat Millenium.

I look at the non-military careers in BCM as a nice way to get used to command, as well as being a fun diversion from a military career, and a chance to view space from a different perspective. Really, I can't see spending months developing a career in them, though. Of course I imagine it will get better as the series progresses, since this only the first game to even feature anything outside the Terran Military as an option.

Heck, just reading the feature list for BCG makes me think that playing a lowly Paramedic type will be alot more fun in the next game, and I know that it won't be anything compared to the experience of BCO.

When I designed the BC games and fleshed out the history, race, castes etc etc, it wasn't for the short term. The inclusion of race/caste choices in BCM is just one more step in the long term goal. Which, incidentally, ends with BCO.

I am a Raider, I dont know if you conciter this a NON-MILITARY caste (I do its my own military) bit I tell you we need those non-mils out their they are my dinner ticket. my sourse of food, money, and a personal source of accomplishment. PLUS IT BLURS OUT THE YELLING VOICES IN MY HEAD TO HEAR THE POOR TRAIDERS/ PARAMEDICS/ WHATEVER SCREAM AS THEY DIE . that is why we need non-military caste so they can be served up as a delitious cargo ship 4 me. hence the foodweb of evaility continues.

P.S. We need an EVIL HAPPY FACE UBB code.. Just a thought

I find playing a scientist or explorer a nice change from the military life. fun for role playing

Posted

whats the dif between a scientist and a explorer? isnt it the same? Im a Raider I see them all as the same just a EXP or SCI diferance. I suppose Im asking is whats the fun as a Explorer or Scientist it would seem that all you do is run and run and run, i mean i understand trader, as a trider its for finatial gain and hence make a differance. Wouldnt you enjoy making a differance to the Universe? I guess im asking whats fun about the SCI and EXP and get it from the perspective of a scientist or an explorer.

i agree that there is no difference between EXP or SCI but when i play sci i don't feel like i have to nuke every red dot i see.

it just gives me a break from combat.
