Cruis. In Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 quote:There are two other missions available, but only to the Terran Military Commander, and the Terran Insurgent Commander jobs. A mission is pictured below, but the text boils down to the same as the "Roam Mode Mission" text, also pictured below. So where's the mission-based campaign? I didn't see any evidence of it, no matter where I looked, though I did see a couple of snatches about some ambassadors docking. But I wasn't assigned a mission, that I noticed. Do these governments in the future just let their military run freelance as they choose?http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/games/...illennium/1.php just a review I found while browsing bluesnews...funny...I visit that site maybe once every 5 months.....(when I remember it exists) I quoted that part from the review, because I don't see how either A) he could have read the manual as he claimed....and knows nothing of the ACM. could have spent months playing it...like he says. However I've been known to be wrong before...you read it and tell me if it sounds like he was able to access the ACM...OR play it as it should be played. According to how you get new missions etc etc... I like reviewers who make little jokes...they give a good laugh sometimes. This fella is plain corny though. Definitely not cool. But in my tradition..... [ 09-20-2002, 10:07 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Epsilon 5 Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 I was suprised to see the points given to graphics and sounds considering he was giving bad points to everything else. much the opposite someone would expect.
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 That wasn't a review, it was an attack piece. A badly done one at that. Anyway, I responded. Lets see how long it takes before it gets deleted.
AWells Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 quote:"Big" goes well here too. Especially the wonderfully intimidating 76 page manual, which I skipped, and tried some quick action. Or rather, no action. Considering I had NO idea what I was doing, I was lucky I managed to get the ship moving, and had no idea what to do from there.I love that part... it just says, "I can't be bothered to read to the manual, and for some reason I have no idea what I'm doing." I can only guess that he must've thought that the manual was there for looks. Game companies just print those things up to kill trees and waste thier money. And what kinds of games does this guy play if 76 pages is huge and intimidating? Terminus wasn't half the game that BCM is and the manual is 195 pages or something like that. Jumpgate's manual was like 50 pages or so and you had to look online for most of the information besides the very basics in game play. But yes, it is rather humorous that he scores the graphics so high when it's probably the main thing that reviewers nit pick about. All in all, my review of this review is that guys needs to find a new line of work.
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 heh, go figure As for the DMCA, he can pretty much ignore it (he probably will and laugh at me) since I can't enforce it - but I'm sure he got my point about it being an attack piece and not a review. Silly git
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 For you folks who like staring at car crashes, the thread has been moved. Be sure to read the last posts in the older thread or you will lose the continuity. [ 09-20-2002, 02:40 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Chameleoki Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Oh, man. I loved that didn't read the manual but can't figure out what's going on bit. The game isn't Blues Clues for crying out loud or even Quake III. Can you say "S-I-M-U-L-A-T-I-O-N"? I knew you could!
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 LOL!!! Blue's Clues!! Man, thats funny. Especially considering how many of those tapes my almost 3yr old daughter has around here. In fact, she probably has all of them and can recite each and every scene of those annoying scripts, blind folded. ...in fact, as luck would have it, she's right this very minute, parked in front of her TV, watching the one about Magenta's visit. Dear Lord. And I thought Barney was bad. Thank God she hates that Purple freak.
Epsilon 5 Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Lol the bcm manual must be one of the best ones out there, very simple. It's large, but it's a necessary evil that pays alot. Attack piece? I thought not. Incompetence? Hell yea. He says he played for months, yet it looks like he played for no more than an hour.
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Yeah, I got that whole attack piece thing wrong, didn't I? Well, it was too much of a coincidence - and considering the nature of the Net, from where I'm sitting, they're all out to get me. Which is why I sleep at night with a fully prepped ZS12 and an extra clip, by my side. Besides, I'm only human, even though the Insurgents don't seem to think so. That show at least teaches them valuable skills instead of annoying skills/songs like that purple dino (let's not say the name, we don't want the webbots archiving this page for that crap. Remember people, it's pr0n and B4rney) Oh, pretty classy there, too on that apology. I think you made some friends instead of enemies.
Cruis. In Posted September 20, 2002 Author Report Posted September 20, 2002 well im glad it turned out for the good. I actually didn't even read that part about the turning off of the interfaces...how stupid... anyway you can tell yer not dealing with clowns over there. except maybe the reviewer...he's head clown. hmm, now the insurgents know how to disarm you before you get to your stored weapon SC.
lowlight Posted September 20, 2002 Report Posted September 20, 2002 Hey guys, Carl here from hardCOREware.. I'm the owner and editor in chief... I was originally going to post to this thread to make it perfectly clear that the review was NEVER intended to be an attack on Derek, but it looks like that is perfectly clear now. There is still the issue that this may be a bad review, and I should take some responsibility for that since I am supposed to be the editor in chief I am talking to Bryan (the reviewer) about it right now... He has always been a great reviewer for us, but lately he's been going through some tough times in life. It appears that it is beginning to reflect in his work (the review is only the second article in several months he has submitted to me for publish - he's way behind). We are going to work on this for the future. Derek knows that I respect him, and contrary to about 99% of the world (according to him), I actually like him. He reminds me of myself in some ways - I can also be very outspoken on my beliefs, and can be confrontational as well. Actually I would LOVE to have Derek write an article for us some time! I am talking to some other developers about doing some freelance work for us too... I want to broaden the scope of my site, but I think Derek would probably be too busy for that... Anyway, I am really glad things have cleared up, and I thank you guys and Derek for bringing this to my attention. Oh and thanks for not slamming my site

So, I usually find time to do stuff like that every now and then. So, send me what you need via email and I'll see what I can do. And no, I don't think anybody slammed the site. We just slammed the review - and only because it is clear that he never reviewed the game for more than an hour or so and certainly didn't read the manual (as he admitted).
