*sigh*, I posted this once, I guess it didn't post or got deleted or something, if I got deleted I don't know what for. But I can not repair my life support system, or my main computer, I've had this problem before, but I couldn't make it to a station, this time I did, and even after buying all the spare parts I need, I couldn't repair the thing, in the station or out, both buttons are greyed out,I've tried everything I can think of, I've restarted the game, the computer, and I havn't found anything else in the forums about this...Ok, now the specs

1.2ghz AMD athlon

512mb ram

40 gig hd

geforce 2 mx 200400 21.83 drivers

ALI audio wave sound card (not sure about drivers)

generic mouse

intelletype keyboard

sidewinder force feedback 2

kds flatscreen monitor

dx 8.1

thats about it, I hope it posts this time/doesn't get deleted, please give me a reason if it does get deleted

if they have been destroyed you may need to replace it.

Other than that, dunno.

umm, update, I just noticed(wasn't important at the time but) that both of my turret arrays are destroyed down to 12% and my life support and main computer are at 12% too, hmm, I can't repair any of them, maybe a bug with the borders or something, isn't like 12% the border between damaged and destroyed?...(yellow and red) if so, that may be a problem with repairing stuff...just a theory though...I happen to code a bit myself, but not anything on this scale

If life support is down, then maybe your guys wont go anywhere near it because of the lack of air on that deck. Maybe? Makes sense when you think about it. Although I could be wrong.

lack of air? The sys eng's look like knights in armor! Id bet they have little oxygen giving doohickies in that mask

ok, I'm on a station, you would think that if i"m docked to a station they would have some way to get to it to repair it...

oh and it's just these things, I had other things that were damamged that repaired just fine, like my guest quarters, and my logisics computer, but the main computer is destroyed, so I can't repair outside of the station...

If a system is destroyed then you have to replace it. Some systems cannot be replaced (shields, armor, reactor, engine, etc.) at a station.

You will have to buy a replacement for thie destroyed system(s) at a station then launch your CC. Once clear of the station, go into LOGISTIX and replace the destroyed systems. You can then dock with the station and have the station engineers complete repairs or you can hang around and have your SEs do it.

I've encountered the same problem. I've had systems that were greyed out where I replaced the parts while docked at a station, then when I left the repair was suspended but it wouldn't let me assign anyone to finish the task. On another occasion I had upgraded my reactor put one engineer on the job, upgraded my shields - put 9 on that job. When the shields finished it wouldn't let me assign more engineers to do the reactor (it was highlited in light blue but neither repair nor upgrade where clickable). The repair did finish eventually with the one engineer.

On another occasion I had replaced 3 systems on an interceptor (again while docked at a station) after I left the station I was able to assign people to finish the job. When it completed the systems were listed as 100% but the parts were still greyed out and remained that way.

Ok, Gallion, like I said before, my main computer is destroyed, which means I can't access Logistics outside of the station, which means, if your right, I can't repair it, I"m pretty sure that would be a bug...

...and this would be a bug because??

Anyway, Gallion is right. If a primary system is gone, its gone. Period. It can only be replaced. This is WELL documented in the manual.

Listen, I'm going to start revoking posting rights (yes, I've done it before) for people posting what they believe to be bugs simply because they (a) haven't read the manual (B) dont' quite yet grasp that they're playing a game that requires - A BRAIN - to play.

Regarding your issue : its like this : If a primary component is destroyed (or damaged), ALL the systems attached to it will be affected. If you cannot access Logistix because the main computer is down, do what any sensible person would do: Either go to a station and repair the main computer or commit Hari Kari.

And if you DON'T know how stations allocate engineers and repair items, read the manual again and again.

This forum is for problem reports, NOT gameplay tips.

'nuff said.

READ the manual. If you leave the station before the repairs are completed....and you DON'T have the parts the station had....

No. Where did you get the impression that 12% was the border between damaged and destroyed? I'd really, truly like to know.

really, I did not know, i was asking a question, I probably shoulda said Is 12% the border between red and yellow...and SC, i'm not asking for gameplay tips, I"m sorry, on my end of things, after reading the manual, and everything, this really does look like a bug to me, sorry if it's not, if something screwy just happened, that is only on my comp or something along those lines, I'm sorry...I'll go with your better judgement and leave it at this...thank you SC for pointing out this is just a false alarm...

It's not a bug. The systems gone. Live with it. It's for realism.

In role-play, a ship like that would be mothballed, probably re-built, and re-comissioned. Guess you'll have to start your career over, because you can't lose your ship and get it recommissioned in the same career. (As far as I know)

Remember that even if your main computer is destroyed (and remember that destruction occurs below 15%), your Chief Engineer will still repair systems if he has a high enough AI.

I would be in favour of having an option to tell the SEngineers to go on autorepair, where they would just repair random systems. They'd be fixing up the ship, but since it would be random you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on -- if they had enough spares, what they were repairing, how they're repairing it, what the status is, if they need a replacement, etc.

But that's just me.

They already do. Read the crew section of the appendix.

No need to apologize. It just burns my *ass when someone cries bug over something because either (a) they don't understand it (and should just *ask*!) or (B) they didn't read the manual.

12% is a destroyed threshold. Rule of thumb, if the integrity falls to 15% or less, its a gonner. In fact, in some high-end components which rely on others, even 25% is pretty much a whacked system depending on the integrity values of the components which make up that system.

Great. And they use the last bit of uranium repairing the Tap in 10-4ward.

I have NEVER had this much fun getting my tail shot off!

Bear with me, this will end up being on topic.

I'm a Terran military commander, GCV Kraken, a Questar class. I make the mistake of taking an unmodified ship, an inexperienced crew and a just about totally green CO down to the surface of Mars to visit the Insurgents. They didn't like that. Two STO, a bunch of SAMS and some high energy laser fire later, my ship looked like this:

>Reactor: Breeched, all auxilliary reactor systems destroyed, radiation on all decks.

>Solar Power: down to 11% output.

>All life support systems destroyed.

>Weapons: yeah, right.

>Shuttlebay, destroyed.

>Main Computer: destroyed, most secondary data systems destroyed.

I managed to afterburn to 35000 MSL and leave orbit, whereupon I went to Starpath station. I plugged into their Logistix and had a grand old time learning about the very thing that the SC just described. The station wouldn't give me or didn't have all of the parts, their SE's could only work so fast and a goodly chunk of my crew was injured or worse. Bottom line, a ship as badly damaged as Kraken would probably be scrapped.

Now, why am I so excited?

In real life, I'm an officer on a submarine and I've seen serious casulaties at sea (No, not as serious as AE's poor ship). The response of the crew to a loss of all communications is about what dnoyeB!'s joke suggests. People fix what they see in front of them, only very well trained or experienced people are thinking about the big picture and the whole scene is chaos. The loss of the Main computer, the Logistix computer and the injury of my CE all simulated the effects of a loss of communications in a crew of 22 on a ship that is supposed to be over 1250 feet long. It's the first time I've ever seen it in a game and it's beautiful!!
