Huwie Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Before I describe my problem, let me just say that I have performed searches for 'stuck marines' and 'frozen marines' in all fora and have read troubleshooting and VCF. So apologies if this has been covered. I'm playing BCMG. Sometimes, when some enemies attack a space station they will appear to eject some marines before being blown up. These marines are to all intents and purposes hostile. The IFF doesn't flash when they're targetted, they have the same designation as their mother ship, they show up red in the TACSCAN etc etc. However, they just hang there in space. They don't move or do anything. Furthermore, not only are they not engaged by any friendly forces, but also I have no way of killing them except with missiles. My main gun does no damage to them, my PTAs don't even fire. Getting out of the ship on a spacewalk and attacking them face to face does no damage. This is getting frustrating because - besides the silliness of it - it means my CAS is constantly on. Of course, I have patched the game fully. The problem is semi-reproducable, in that it occurs fairly often but I have no way of inducing it myself. So what's going on? Any ideas? DennyMala Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Hi HUWIE, I think I read something like this on another post.... try searching for "SF marine" or directly for "marine" just in case..... However I think that this caused by the AI engine of the soldier.... they are attacking the starstation or escorting they comrades (as you can see in the rightmost video panel) but the marines will only fire if they have a high probability of hit their target, and if you consider that they are usually not facing direcly their target and that the actors are moving, it end up in stuck them doing nothing...... You can kill them but not with your CC primary guns (too big) nor with the PTA ( it doesn't recognise them as valid target 'cos they're too small).... take a hike outside or board a fighter, go to point blank distance and nebulize them with our weapons..... that's all.... See ya...

They don't move or do anything. If they don't have a target, they won't go anywhere. And even though they don't seem to be moving, they probably are. If you target one and switch to the F10 camera view, you should see if they are moving or not, by the speed indicator. quote: Furthermore, not only are they not engaged by any friendly forcesOnly marines can engage marines quote:but also I have no way of killing them except with missiles. If you are close enough as a space marine yourself, you can kill them. The Sabre rifle does not have a very long range.
Huwie Posted October 1, 2003 Author Report Posted October 1, 2003 Thank you both for your help. I will try all the suggestions, but as for the marines not moving, I can definitely confirm that. When I was spacewalking I approached within arm's reach of one and he stayed absolutely still. I'm pretty sure I tried shooting him from that range, too, and it had no effect. I'll try again though.
