Since I'm looking for a way to see if I set up my system profile info properly, I thought i'd post one of my blunders from when I was just learning the game.

I was doing some mining on earths moon early in a roam campaign and decided to leave the game running while I went outside for a while. Thinking I was very clever I decided to land the ship on the moon and turn of the reactor to save my radine. I just got out the door when I remembered that having no reactor meant having no life support, and no life support on the moon is not a good idea. Fortunately My crew was still alive when I got back and the AI first officer does not relieve you of command for stupid mistakes.

Don't feel bad... I saw a station that had be recently attacked and it's sheild was WAY down, nearly gone....

So I jumped over in my little Sunflash and was promptly cleaned from the sky.......

Mental note: If no sheild penetration occurs, then no physical damage has been sustained. Oops.

I also ran into a station in my Firestorm to flee an enemy force. I repaired myself, launched, and promptly forgot to re-raise my shields. It was a sad death.....

That's nothing, I met my untimely end when the crew decided to land on a moon...with me taking a walk in a vacc suit out on the hull.

even with no life support...shouldn't the crew still be able to live just fine if you land on a planet with a friendly environment?

cause I tried that on earth..and they were losing health...since when did earth's atmosphere become toxic???

The ship is air-tight.. Wouldn't you start to--how should I put this.. 'Degrade' if you were working in a 100+ (or 0-) degree environment and you were breathing air that has already been in someone else's lungs? If your crew were out of the ship walking around the planet I think they would get a little tired after a while and hungry .

I had wondered about this. I had the same experience. In alaska I killed life support and they started to die, puzzling me. however it makes sense that if the ship is airtight they would succumb to co2 piosoning. What we need is airlock control so we can blow the airlocks on a planet, Not to mention in space for amusement. Can you say explosive decompression, heh. Somehow I get the idea Captain X would love that feature.

Just throw them all into shuttles and OCs. They have their own internal lifesupport and all your crewmembers will be just fine. Now, as far as fatigue, they will still gain it, however if your looking to kill time for mining or whatever your doing, put the crew in shuttles or OCs and then you can power down the reactor.

thats a good idea....about how long will it take before they start getting REALLY high fatigue or start trying the doors trying to get out and find food?

While I'm not sure as to exactly how fast or slow their fatigue will increase or decrease, I'm sure its no faster then if they were to stand around "on-station." I mean, their just sitting on their butts chilling, they won't be exerting themselves. So I would say just observe the rate an "on-station" crew member's fatigue increases, who isn't doing anything, i.e. a flight enginner or marine or whoever, and go off that.

As far as food, perhaps putting some nutripaks in the cargo holds would hold them over, but I am not sure if they need access to the galley or not, I think they do. If you try it let us know what you find

They don't get Nutripaks from the cargo hold. Read the manual.

SC, is there a way we can force the crew to the galley? Cause they dont always go when i send them off duty (or even stay off duty). so i have a few with like 500+ HF in Tactical->Crew. i have to send them to medibay to have them sit still long enough to lower thier FF (medics, marines and sengs do this)

No, they will eat when they are hungry. This is handled by their internal AI. As long as you have Nutripaks in the cargo bay and the path to the galley is not blocked, no matter where they are, once they are hungry, they will go eat. Just ignore them, and stop staring at their HF value. You'll just worry more.

Mothers Specifications, heh, looks like you're bonding with your ship's onboard computer huh?
