Could you at least tell us what was cut( )? 'Cause there is no point to keep it secret (imo) or you'll just implement them in patch or next game?

aw c'mon, tell us what you think

Anyway, here are some more direct links for this first movie. I am going to be releasing four more, as soon as I can edit out the useless frames and get it all decoded.

One other thing that delayed me yesterday is that I had captured the movies at 400x300 (I configured Fraps to do half of 800x600) and I couldn't get Media Maker to encode it at that resolution. It kept trying to do it a 640x480. Until I hit Google and found this awesome site for movie making. There I learned about the Windows Media Encoder which allows you to create profiles which Media Maker can use. There I was able to create a profile for that resolution.

Anyway, the other upcoming movies take place in daylight and feature vehicles, naval units, aircraft and some more jungle combat (this time in daylight conditions).

The new team based AI uses a hybrid of my NN which is used for space craft. This allows teams to co-ordinate, learn from you (if they are on escort), learn from their encounters, environments etc etc. It'll - literally - blow your mind to see what I've done this time around. Its not perfect (that takes time and several generations of updates), but its worlds from anything I've done before in the BC series.

I must say, that was one cool movie. The jungle fighting was pretty atmospheric with all the vegetation. Muzzle flashes in the bushes!! Pretty sweet!!!!!!! The setting was really murky with the lightning and rain effects.

Um... are all the models the same for every race? Do the Gammulans have different marine models or textures?

woah! Are you saying we'll also be able to join up space craft into squadrons or groups, like how you did for the marines with the TOM feature?

Wow if so, that would be totally awesome sir!

Yes. There are 12 races in the game, over 25 castes and a set of no less than 20 model classes. Do the math and you'll see just how much work, time and money would be involved in doing a unique set for each race combination, let alone each race/caste variation.

erm, well yeah.

I┬┤m with Extinct_Reptilia. The atmosphere is realy cool. The birds and vegetation makes the world look allive. My favorite is the sniper sequence , looks like fun.

Wanna see the other movies, wanna see naval action.

The only thing that looks confusing to me is that all vehicles seemed to be stucked into the ground. Why that? I now this phenomenon from BCMG, where a vehicle is jumping below ground level. But no big deal, the game isn┬┤t gold now.

I intentionally set the altitude of the crashed Blackghost gunship (yellow one), below ground because it crash landed. Since the game does not model visible damage, if it were above ground at the normal altitude, it would not look like a downed gunship.

The other crashed gunship (Intruder) is nose up for the same reason. Haven't you played games where the state of certain assets is set depending on the scenario? e.g. a burned out car with no wheels?

Notice also that unlike the marine AI in BCM/G, the hostiles are holding and defending their position (around the gunship) while waiting for an evac transport. In BCM/G, they'd be running all over the place and because they don't have the same AI kernel and rules.

And that first sniper you see in the movie (the guy behind the hill near the down gunship), came from the gunship. He's actually taking potshots at us as we race to the location of the downed gunship. In fact, I cut to one of the EF marines he killed before he (the sniper) ran (away from the gunship, due to hostile fire) behind the hill.

The firefight actually gets more intense when their rescue gunship arrives with even more high AI marines. But I had to cut it short since I can't give everything away.

Ok, i understand that SC. So its a part of the scenario. Ehm, sorry, but the APC (or ATV) the mariens run by in minute 1:00 of the movie seems also to be stucked into ground. Is that because the altitude value is for all vehicles or am I mistaken, and this thing isn┬┤t stucked?

But I must say, that this movie is realy fun to watch. Great work SC.

That was pretty darn Good SC, the weather effects, the birds, the trees, it looked really good.

Watching the one shoot over your shoulder was pretty cool too, he was right behind you, and as soon as you opened up, he did too, without taking you out as well, which was very nice.

I played one game where one of the AI's was shooting at the same target I was, and the stupid jerk killed me instead. I can't remember the game, but I remember how PO'd I was that I got killed by one of my own guys. LOL

Looks good SC, can't wait to see the next one.

I love my DSL!!!

I am sure glad that wasn't resnig back there opening up with that rocket launcher.

I like how the marine controls have been greatly improved as well as the whole PTE overhaul. I had been wanting to see the wildlife moving around and it sure does alot to liven up the world.

There is one big annoyance I find with this video and that is I WASN'T PLAYING!!

Very, very cool though.

Where is air support when ya need it. Order an airstrike on that hot spot then go in and mop up. When all is said and done come back to base and then send out the landscaping contractor to resurface the ground and replant all the trees.

That is called realism. There isn't a war that has ever been fought were there hasn't been an instance of friendly fire casualties on either side of the conflict.

This has me especially excited. You go prone, they go prone. Although I guess it depends on their AI levels as to how well they follow your cue? I remember around the 15:20 mark of the movie, you have a couple of AI buddies behind you go prone when you do and then there's the one dolt still standing. I guess he's been on too many away teams with Resnig. Going on away teams is going to be so much fun with UC. Without even playing the game, I imagine this is one of, if not the biggest improvements from BC to UC.

Birds were cool and 'resident wildlife' definitely brings the planets alive. This movie had a real atmospheric feel to it as well.

Yep, that was cool and the marines looked good too.

Wasn't this one in daylight (thought it said 0930 on the hud clock?) Night-time would be cool tho...

Also, do marines have a limited range on their personal TRS or can they see everything "unaided" ie. all hostiles etc?

0930 - Military time for 9:30 am, so yes it was sometime in the morning

1930 - Military time for 7:30 pm, at night

9:30 pm would be 2130 in military time

The time was correct, its just that there was a major storm (I guess you didn't notice?) so its a lot darker. When I said "daylight" I meant sometime in the early afternoon, clear skies, no storm etc etc.

Not sure what you're asking but the ranges in the TRS remain unchanged in this game.

If you're talking about this VTT tags (the labels you see in fp mode), those are range dependent and are displayed only for personnel (hostile or friendly). In the future, all forces are tracked by ID tags; so, if you can see them on DIE radar, they can most likely see you too. I may disable the display of hostile personnel VTT tags in the final release (and just enable it in cheat mode), but at this point, it doesn't detract from the game to have them displayed.

May I suggest a high video quality, no sound movie to be released in the future SC? Like, that SMACKER/BLINK one that you released a few years ago, that had impressive video quality.

After showing the demo movies to several real-life friend and linking it to some online friends, the general reaction was that the game had '5 year old graphics'... and of course, I was only able to prove my real life friends wrong by showing them BCM. Online friends didnt buy the 'the graphics get roughened up when doing the video capture' thing.

Just some feedback .

I don't have to prove anything to anyone. And I'm certainly not going to waste my time on a 200MB+ upload. So your friends are very welcome to bloody well think what they like. I don't give a toss. And if they don't grasp the concept of video loss due to compression, then they're just plain ignorant. Heck, I just watched the recent Harry Potter trailer and it was grainy and virtually unwatchable. Why don't you go show that to them and let them be pissed because they think thats how the film will end up looking when released.

In fact, the original movie conversions I did were in DivX (173MB high quality) and then after something told me to check www.divx.com licensing, I realized that I'd have to pay to distribute movies encoded in Divx format. And I didn't want to violate their licensing by releasing them anyway - so I did the WMA format instead. The Divx conversion is lot better in image quality.

Terran Marine: i think people feel it looks a little distorted because its in a non screen size.

For example, the latest mvoie was 600 x 400, i think. And since that isn't a normal screen size 640 x 480, 1024 x 768 etc, it looks a little weird.

Its shown in the text, but i don't think its really a big problem either.

The last movie was 400x300 (half of the 800x600 display size). And I had it captured at that resolution because at 800x600 - even 640x480 (as the previous movies), would have been too large. Remember this movie footage is approx 16 mins long.
