Targeting in a ground vehicle.

Now this is a really noob question... but I can't figure out if it is me that is missing something or I'm just plain stupid

Is all turrets mounted on a tank like the WildCat forward firing like German tank destroyers under WWII? I.e it can't turn the turret because is has none. But is it possible to shoot a little higher? I.e. I havn't found any info about moving the sight inside the the F1 view. Please give a hint.
