DiscoJason Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 When playing last night, I had my mine launcher get damaged down to 53%. I went to a station and bouth a replacement part, but when I selected the mine launcher, the Replace button was not highlighted for me to click on it. It said I needed 0 parts and had 1 part. Am I only able to replace a part if it is 25% and below? From reading the manual it seemed I could replace it no matter what the damage, but it could be that I am interpreting it incorrectly.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 If it can't be replaced, you won't get the option to do so.
DiscoJason Posted February 17, 2004 Author Report Posted February 17, 2004 Hmmm...this was a mine launcher and I was able to buy one at the station, so I would assume it was a replaceable part. What would be some reasons why it can't be replaced? Was it not damaged enough to replace? In other words, is the 25% damage which determines that something HAS to be replaced fixed so that it can't be replaced until it gets down to 25%? This doesn't seem so, since in the manual it mentions that parts can be replaced if it would take too long to just repair them. Under the repair portion, there is a list of things. Do I need to have all of those in order to replace the part and maybe the reason I couldn't replace it was I only had the part and nothing else which was required? Remember, I am a n00b, so I have never replaced a part before in this game. I have the one part that is listed directly under where the Replace button is, so in my eyes, this should work, but then again I am looking through the eyes of a n00b. Also, it doesn't have the wording I have seen for other systems that say it cannot be replaced. This is a simple matter where for the mine launcher, I have the part, it says I have it, I have a halfway damaged part, and I don't get the option to replace it.
Gordon Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Did you try to replace it using your own engineers. If not try it, launch from the station go to logistix select the mine launcher and then replace. Let us know if that works.
DiscoJason Posted February 17, 2004 Author Report Posted February 17, 2004 Unfortunately, I no longer have that save after installing the RC3 patch (it disappeared from the game after I installed the patch). But, I did try this from both space and at a station and I couldn't get the replace button lit in either case.
Gordon Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 I had no problem replacing a weapons pod by the method that I described above. Station engineers would not replace the part but my crew did. I'll do some testing and see if I can get the mine launcher damaged and see what happens.
Gordon Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 As a follow up, I did additional testing. I damaged my Mine Launch Bay down to 62%, I then docked at Genesis and was able to replace this part and had the engineers install it without any problems. Conclusion, I found no issue with the replacement or repair of the Mine Launch Bay. Testing was done using the MK3 Battlecruiser.
DiscoJason Posted February 17, 2004 Author Report Posted February 17, 2004 Alrighty. Well, thanks for checking it out. There was probably something else going on that caused the problem as I had been fooling around with repairing some other systems. Maybe they were all working on another one and therefore, I couldn't do it. I really wish I had the save so I could go verify. By the way, what method did you use to get your mine bay down to 62%? Just attack someone and hoped they damaged it?

No, you send your AE into a fighter, launch it and fire on your own CC. Not a normal thing to do but it's the only way to get controlled testing.
DiscoJason Posted February 18, 2004 Author Report Posted February 18, 2004 Alright... will give that a try tonight so I can learn how to do it. Thanks for the tip.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Stations won't always give you engineers and free repairs, so its not guaranteed that you'd leave with everything repaired to the max. Whats the fun in that if you can run back to a station everytime you scratch your hull?

The fun is in the insurance fraud when you get your insurance to pay for the scratched hull when you didn't have to pay for the repair. . -Gnowor
