gnowor Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Whenever I load a game right after dying (in this case, from a blackhole after entering FLX-12) I die again after loading the game (by die I mean the KIA message is displayed, I don't see any actual destruction). This happens only on the time I immediately load the game after dying. Should I load that same game again (after seeing that KIA display for no apparent reason) it loads fine. Just to make this clear, heres the chain of events. 1. Enter flux-field, see destruction explosion, get KIA report. 2. Load game, see KIA report. 3. Load game again, loads fine. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly with other circumstances surrounding death. -Gnowor
Pwnman Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Yes, this has happened to me multiple times as well in a variety of death circumstances. It has happened when dying as a marine in FP mode, in ground vehicles, and in space as commander. Exact same sequence of events as yours, substituting a different way of dying.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Well gee, if you die, you're dead. Don't use resume, because you can't. Start a new game. *topic moved*
Grizzle Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Learn to use SAVE & EXIT boys... use those slots!!!! It'll save you a lot of anguish.
gnowor Posted February 14, 2004 Author Report Posted February 14, 2004 Re-read the mesage SC. I'm using the Save slots. Thus I would be "loading". Not, "resuming". Good job at holding that grudge there SC. -Gnowor
Grizzle Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 gnowor... When you die so does your saved game, so whatever slot you just loaded from is DEAD, Use another. If you didnt save to another slot then start a new career. It's always been this way.
gnowor Posted February 14, 2004 Author Report Posted February 14, 2004 So let me just clarify. I save my game while I'm just chilling waiting for something to happen in the game in save slot 3. I hit resume and then something happens and I die. You're saying that when I load from save slot 3, I'm supposed to die again. If this is the case then why when I load from save slot 3 for a second time does it load fine. Notice, I did not use the resume button after I die (I understand that this will not work). Again read the order of events. There is an inconsistancy there. Either I should die EVERY time I use the save slot, or not at all, should it function properly. Why does it auto-kill me after loading the game after I die? My problem is with step 2 above. -Gnowor

If you saved BEFORE you died, and you resume or restored the game, it will restore just fine. Even then, if there was an inbound shot, or a pending "you're bloody dead" instruction sent, just before you saved the game, once you reload it, guess what, before you SAVED the game, that instruction is STILL going to be sent. Why? Well, gee, because it was saved WITH the saved game. So, you resume or restore, instruction gets sent. You die. e.g. a missile was just about to hit you. You saved. You resumed/restore, the missile is still going to hit you and within the frame before you even see the screen. The result? You get the death screen. Now, if you are certain that its a bug, then put your money where your mouth is and send the saved game files to [email protected]. If you don't know how to pack up and send saved games, there is a topic somewhere in tech support.
gnowor Posted February 14, 2004 Author Report Posted February 14, 2004 Saved game files sent. Just go through the flux field until you die. Then, load the same game I sent you, the one where you're still 5 km away from the flux field. You will die again right after you load. More detailed instructions included in email. -Gnowor
Pwnman Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 And like I said I have the same problem. It's not a big deal because it's not a save game issue because once you load the save game again after dying right after loading the first time you don't die. I'm absolutely positive that I didn't save it while there was a missile heading toward me.

gnowor Posted February 15, 2004 Author Report Posted February 15, 2004 Sent originally from my @comcast.net address. Just now resent from my @yahoo.com email address. Both mails are identical. -Gnowor
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 OK, I got it. Will investigate it when I have time
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 This is non-issue and works as designed. If you die in the game and you try to resume, you are still dead. You have to quit the game entirely or restore from a full save.
