After applying the latest BCMG patch (ver. 1.01.04) I got an error message when launching the game that inform me of a CD/DVD emulation software running and that ask me to quit it and launch again the game.

The problem is that I doesn't have anything running and I don't have any emulation software at all!!!

As you can assume before patching the game was working perfectly, and the patching process has worked fine.

What the hell is going on...?

Its using the latest version of Macrovision SafeDisc. So, if it says you have some sort of debugger or emulation software running, you probably do. Get rid of it.

Posted

I've double checked it and I've got nothing running; as I said I don't have that kind of software at all on my machine...

Could you state some example of said software to make my mind with a precise idea of what I might search?

Thanks.

Safedisc is notorious for false alarms as far as thinking it see's emulators. I know X2 and UC get me for it every so often.

Try disabling your antivirus software if you have any. For some reason, it sets off a false alarm on me sometimes if I dont.

Other than that just deal with it, as there really isnt much else you can do.

I'll do it this evening and post the results, thanks SC.

@REMO

My Norton Antivirus is already disabled, I keep it up only when I'm connected to the net; however thanks for the idea.

Gimme a break. It never occured to you to kill the debugger and Norton Ghost? Especially after ALL the discussions that have gone on in the tech support forum?

Posted

Ok, I'll try it this evening... sorry but I've never read anything about it and the error message was misleading me....

However I've disabled Norton Ghost in the System Works properties... seems like he don't care to what I tell him so I'm going to uninstall that feature....

And about the debugger.... if I'm not wrong it's a part of windows... right? So I must manually kill it every time or there is a permanent solution? And if I can disable it forever what will it do on my system?

Thanks for the help and sorry for the bother.

Posted

Thanks Cc, it's more easy than what I espect....

However bad news for me and maybe some info for the SC...... I've uninstalled NORTON GHOST and therefore killed the process and killed the debugger too but without sorting any result.

The error message is still appearing.

What now?

Thanks in advance for any help.

OK, will do.... now I'm at work, this evening I'll get all the data and post it along with the exact error message.

What is the matter with you? Why did you send this when BCM was running? You need to CLOSE all non-essential programs. Listen, quit your OS and reboot the computer. Once its finished rebooting, go to Start/Run and type winmsd. Go to File/Save. Then send the .NFO file produced, to [email protected]

Also, why do you have so many instances of svchost.exe running? Sounds like you have a virus on your system I think.

He has the correct amount of svchost.exe's running if he's on a network. I had this same issue with another computer I worked on a couple months ago, and then I noticed that all Windows computers typically have 3-4 svchost.exe's running at any one time.

Here's a description of Svchost.exe for Windows XP on the Microsoft KB

Note the multiple svchost.exe's in the example process list. As long as he doesn't have doubles he should be ok.

Annoying as hell that svchost crap is...

Sorry SC, I thinked it would help to see the status of my system in the moment the error was generated...

I've checked my system with the latest NORTON ANTIVIRUS definition and I've found nothing...beside I always get that bugger up when connecting to the net..... I'm pretty sure my system is clear.

I'm following your instruction and sending the file along with a link to this tread for info..... again apologies.

However nice new graemlin ( )...very useful for me...

Dunno. I'm on a network and I show only two svchost.exe programs currently running.

I only pointed this out because I know that an excess number of svchost.exe is usually a sign of a potential worm or virus.

The guys at Macrovision and I looked at the NFO file you sent. You are running both Nero and CloneCD. So how come you didn't know that CloneCD is a virtual CD drive program?

Anyway, here is what they had to say

quote:

I found the following software which may be the causing the problem: Uninstalling them will resolve the issue.

Clone CD

If CloneCD is on the machine:

You might have a little icon on the bottom of your screen (on your task bar) with the picture of a sheep's head. Right Click this and make sure "Hide CD-R media" is un-ticked.

Nero Burning Software.

If the customers have both software available as backup, try uninstalling them and see if it resolves the issue. For Clone CD you don?t need to uninstall, just use the above work around. Let me know the results please.

Is the customer using Nero Image? or Virtual drive using Nero? The CD will not authenticate from the virtual drive.

I had virtual drives installed from both Clone CD & a demo version of Alcohol 120%. I uninstalled both programs and had no troubles loading BCMG afterwards.

Posted

Yes I got them installed in my sytem but none is active in the taskbar or in the process list....and I used clone only for burning backup CD's for the car reader or storing damage subjected software, I didn't know it's a virtual drive too....

And however I've disabled the Machine Debug Manager fron the advanced option of IE under XP but the process continue to be started when I boot up, I've looked the registry to remove the launching key but I can't find it......ANY HELP FROM SOMEONE?

I have to manually kill the process any time I boot.....

Posted

YEAH!!!!!

I uninstalled and reinstalled CLONE CD and the small sheep head returned in the task bar, I unticked the indicated option and boom.... the game starts again.

Thanks SC and sorry for all the bother....as you may have understood I'm not a so advance pc user....

THIS QUESTION REMAIN VALID IF SOMEONE CAN HELP:
