Sorry Supreme Commander.

I must mind my manners - I do not have any definitive proof of those other purported pta anomalies - pure speculation - but I will try out the I/cheat to see what happens.

Thanks again, and I will be looking forward for a synopsis regarding the Nightstar (the one starship I desperately want to command ).

Sincerely,

Gaultesian

So I was playing my favoret ship the Violon today and I noticed the previous PTA sweet spots have been moved from port and starboard to above and below

was this meant to be that way??? not only that but the pta turrets dont seem to be fireing at anything directly to the left or right of the center of the radar

I got in a bunch of fight in a short period of time and lost alot of marines to intruders hehe(foolish resnig and his 4 marine tactic)

anything that was above or below me was ripped to shreads though but anything to my left or right wasnt being fired at

There have been no changes to the turret tags in any model since the game was released. So I have not idea what you're talking about.

Obviously the ship designs in BCM Gold and UC are vastly different.

And the Violon doesn't have any side firing turrets.

I have found - and fixed - the reason why some turrets on this model (and other similar ones) won't fire under some conditions. The models are fine. The problem is that - as I suspected - the turret thought it was going to be firing on the ship, so before it could fire, it turned itself off.

The reason this problem is on this model is because the turret entity is resting on a smaller rectangular bit, which is also resting on the ship's body. Compare to the turret object on say, the Megaron.

So, on the Nightstar, it was thinking that the shot was colliding with that rectangular bit, since it [the bit] is smaller than the 20m (now reduced to 1m) growth dynamically done in order to reduce the accuracy required for the turret beams.

Compare to the Megaron which has its turret resting on the body of the ship, and that body being wider than 20m, causes the turret to fire correctly.

EDIT: Moved to tech support section

Thanks Supreme Commander,

You know, as a parting shot - I read so many flaming forum posts (on other forum sites) regarding the SC and the BC series - I could make a long list, but the SC probably knows more about them than I do.

I bought this game because it looked like it would fill a niche I was lacking in my gaming - it filled it and then some. When I thought I was having a problem with the game, I sheepishly made a post.

And guess what.

The designer of the game actually responded, looked at the problem and fixed it in due time and order.

I wish a good many other games I had bought over the years had that kind of service. Patches for UC come out regularly, which, some critics would claim that it is proof that the game is buggy.

A majority of pc games produced are published with bugs, or with ommissions/problems that a thousand years of playtesting would not bring out - it takes the average gamer to find them out. Putting a game out and then supporting it with excellent patches and revisions is what makes a mediocre 'I'll play for a week' game to one that stands in my hard drive/cd drive all the time.

In my mind it shows a game that is being taken care of by the creators - a game that, although it may not perfect from the time it was released, is actually improving by leaps and bounds until, at this time - we have a kick ass game on our hands.

I have reccommended this game to at least a half dozen friends who love this type of genre, and they are all thanking me .

Sincerely,

Thanks for the words of support.

You've now discovered the #1 reason why we are still here. We care about our games.

If you play any game long enough, you are bound to find bugs. As a small company (with one primary programmer who does 90% of the coding, me), there is only so much that we can do - especially given the scope of my games, budget, resources etc. But at retail, we still kick some ass.

Anyway, enjoy the Nightstar, she's a fine ship indeed.
