Jopo Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 I have visited the tech support forums and the knowledge base for UC none of which has addeseed or fixed my issue so im comminfg here to see if someone else has seen this issue. When i first installed UC and down loaded the patch up to 214 i beleive all worked fine and i spent a couple of hours playing the tutortal and learning the game as i am new to this Game. (At first it seem a little overwhelming with all the input i have to keep tract of but now i find it quite enjoyable.) Here is where my problems start. i left the game for the night (3:00am...needed sleep) the next day i go to start the game and it crashes to desktop after the first loading screen before i even get to the firts UC screen where i resume from. SO, I do as the Knowledg base describes and i after removeing the game and reinstalling from scratch i finnly get it to work again. (having tried all the other steps first) So i play for a few more hours and shut down for the night. guess what happens the the next day...thats right, the game crashes to desktop at the loading #D objects screen. I am going to assume it video related so i load the newest ATI 9600XT drivers and reinstall DX, upgrade soundblaster live drivers (might as well since im doing the others) but still a no go and playing. i have to uninstall and reinstall the game every day to be able to play it. ANYONE seen this or know how to resolve it?
Guest Shingen Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 There is absolutley no way to advise you without knowing what kind of kit you are running on. Read This Now, update your sig with the pertinent information, and try again.
Jopo Posted October 9, 2004 Author Report Posted October 9, 2004 sorry about that, thought i did it the first time but it appears it didn't stick. lets try atgain and ill link here in case it doesn't. http://www.3000ad.com/register/profile.php?id=3655
Cc Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 By any chance, do you have a text file called 'bcFatalError' in your UC folder?
Supreme Cmdr Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 You may have installed the patch incorrectly. Also, you could have just ran the game in a window using the parameter described in the FAQ, to see if you get an error message or not. And please fix your sig; the format is incorrect. *moved*
Jopo Posted October 10, 2004 Author Report Posted October 10, 2004 "By any chance, do you have a text file called 'bcFatalError' in your UC folder?" sorry no, no such file in that folder. "You may have installed the patch incorrectly. Also, you could have just ran the game in a window using the parameter described in the FAQ, to see if you get an error message or not." i reinstalled the game then patch 2 then patch 214 and I did this according to the directions provided. Same issue occured. I also did what the FAQ said and if i delete the ini file the game starts with the default setting and runs till i try to drill down to a planet view such as the tutorial says.... "So go to the ÔÇ£zoomÔÇØ icon again and this time select ÔÇ£mission zoneÔÇØ, then ÔÇ£emp/milÔÇØ and finally ÔÇ£centris00[sbase]ÔÇØ. Once you have select this, the local map of that mzone will be displayed and you can now select the scene contained within that mzone. Since there is only one scene, ÔÇ£base_centris01ÔÇØ" I also ran it in windows mode and it ran till i tried to zoom down on the planet. No error messages poped up when it crashed in window mode. so the game seems to be running fine as long as i deleate the INI file before playing as as long as i dont try to zoom down in Tacops mode to view a mzone. I'll try doin a planetside mission to see if it will load next. Any other ideas?
Cc Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 quote:I also ran it in windows mode and it ran till i tried to zoom down on the planet.Sure you ran those patches from within the UC folder? I.E. download the patch and move it to your UC folder, than run the patch.
Supreme Cmdr Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 He patched the game incorrectly. We already know that this particular issue he is reporting, is the most frequently reported and by people who FAIL to read the instructions provided but just keep posting the same thing over and over. And no, this has NOTHING to do with the INI file. Then he says no error message pops up when it crashes. Thats ludicrous in itself, because a crash will display an error message either in a window and/or in a log file. This thread will self-destruct in a few hours because there are no less than THREE threads already with this same thing in it and with the resolution.
