Hello,

I posted a message a couple of days ago about the mzone crashing the app. I guess I didn't put the patches in the C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADUniversal Combat and run them from there. I uninstalled UC and then applied the patches from their correct place. Zooming to mzones works now but now when I try planetfall in the tutorial it bombs out when it's about to switch to the view after hitting the "zero barrier" any ideas would be greatly appreciatied.

Have no idea what you mean by bombs out, but until you read this and comply your not likely to receive assistance from anyone. Plus what app are you talking about there are no applications that run with the game that I know of?

Edit: Corrected link.

Remo,

The application is the game itself that I am refering to. It crashes and goes to the windows desktop without an error. I tried to read the link you provided but I got the page cannot be displayed message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I added the profile hopefully this works. I tested it on the test signature thread. So where do I go from here? Thanks in advance

Since I can't reproduce it in the game and I find no other reports about this or mention in the VCF. I know its not the game but is in your system configuration drivers etc. or install of the game. I'll try to help the best I can, but I need more info.

When making planet fall do you see the transition that runs before you are actually planet side or does it happen when your CC reaches 50K.

You might want to go back to the link I posted above and read the topic linked there on how to post a report. That way we know all the details of whatÔÇÖs going on when you get the CTD.

I looked at your profile and I'm confused. For one thing, please get the EXACT brand of your video card correct. There is no such card as x600

Second, those drivers certainly don't appear to be the ATI driver versions.

The ONLY two things which will cause a crash on entering the planet are listed below. Both have been discussed at length; and I for one am surprised that this thread has not yet been deleted.

  1. Bad patch install. The FAQ explains how to start from scratch once you bork this.
  2. Video card does not have a vertex shader

Posted

Hello, DirectX calls the video card "ATI Mobility Radeon x600". As for the vector shader I believe I read a post that the game will not even run without it. The games runs fine except trying to load the transition scene.

OPERATING SYSTEM: winxp

OS ENVIRONMENT: desktop 1680 by 1050 px color 32 bit)

GAME ENVIRONMENT: 1024 by 768 the rest are default

GAME VERSION: 2.00.28

GAME TYPE: roam tutorial

CAREER/RACE/CASTE: cmdr/ter/mil

ASSET/LAUNCH BASE: Megaron / galcomhq

PROBLEM

When about to do the plantetfall part of the tutorial. THe game crashes and goes to the windows desktop.

This happens before the transition screen when I am about 146 k out.

TO REPRODUCE

Nav to centris and select planet hit SHIFT + 9 when less than 150 k (seems to be loading the transition scene) the game crashes to desktop.

example

STEPS During Install of game:

1. Ran Setup off of cd

2. moved over uc2[1].00.00.exe and ran in "C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADUniversal Combat"

3. moved over uc2_00_28.exe and ran in "C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADUniversal Combat"

4. started the game

Don't rely on DirectX. Go into the ATI properties in display panel and it will tell you what type of card it is.

When you do, check with ATI to make sure it has a vertex shader 1.1 because there is a good chance that it emulates it in software (like how nVidia used to cheat).

As far as the tutorial is concerned, there is nothing different (engine wise) about it. If you start a ROAM scenario and can't enter a planet, then you have problems which have nothing to do with the game nor the tutorial.

The FAQ has detailed instructions on how to start from scratch with a patch. I suggest that you go read it.

And once again, I have to point out that the driver versions you have in your system info, don't even remotely look like ATI driver revision numbers. They look like nVidia driver numbers.

Compaq uses some funky version numbers.

The current driver version is 6.14.10.6512 that was put out at the end of March.

the GPU is either a ATI M22 or ATI M24

The M22 is equivalent to a X300 and the M24 is equivalent to a X600.

I have that same problem and do actually have vertex shaders. However, I just now re-installed the patches w/o re-installing the actual game. Don't know if this is the problem.

Not completely on topic, but, if you happen to do updates like that Travia21 (bounding around through versions)....it IS better to un-install it all, then start from scratch...and go back up to the latest version using all patches you can get your hands on.

It's rare you come across updates that cover each-other from version to version, but SC here, has done the best damn job I ever seen...especially past times allotted to take care of them as well...

Re-install then update to the latest, and see what happens is all I can say there Travia21.

Highly unlikely; especially since that Intel chipset is an on-board chipset. It probably only supports 1.0 and not 1.1. Dunno. Check with Intel.
