Guest Melanie650 Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 I heard that some artifacts don't work for certain ships. I was just wondering which ones don't work for the Stormcarrier.
me Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 I'm just guessing at this point as I have not gotten my copy yet. Chances are ALL artifacts will work for the StormCarrier. More than Likely the Craft being refered to would be the Cruisers(Specifically the cloak upgrade artifact), Also the IOD Upgrade artifact for ships that do not have one(Transports). I could be mistaken about this but that seems to be the most Likely conclusion.[ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Melcar ]
CommanderJohnson Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 The SC already posted to find out what ships use which upgrades, look in the assets file in data.
Guest Melanie650 Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 I read the assets file in the data folder. I don't see where the SC tells which ship can use what artifacts.
CommanderJohnson Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 The assets folder has the different ship names in the first line of each section. The RUpgrade, SUpgrade, etc have numbers next to them. If you crossreference the numbers with the upgrades in the ITEMS file, you'll know which numbers the ship can upgrade to. AKA, if the last number next to SUpgrade is 357, and that's the Linear IV shield (or whatever it's called), and the shield artifact number is 700, and 700 isnt next to SUpgrade under the ship, you can only upgrade to the linear, and not the artifact one.
Urza Posted November 26, 2001 Report Posted November 26, 2001 In a Questar (Heavy Crusier), I was unable to use the T.A. Shield. The upgrade light wouldn't light up.
CommanderJohnson Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 TA shield only works on heavy carriers. Crossrefernce items with assets.
Urza Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 Oops, does that include super carriers?
Gallion Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 All Carriers, Heavy, Super, and the Stormcarrier can use all the artifacts. CC assets that do not have a RE annot use artifacts - to wit: cruisers and transports.when perusing the assets.ini file look for the folowing entries: code:LEXCLUDE{LOC_RESEARCH_LAB,LOC_FLIGHT_DECK,LOC_AUXILIARY_TURRET_ARRAY} SEXCLUDE{BC_RESEARCH_LAB,BC_INTERCEPTOR_CHARGER_1,BC_CLOAKING_SYSTEM, BC_INTERCEPTOR_CHARGER_2,BC_FLIGHT_DECK,BC_AUXILIARY_CHARGER, BC_AUXILIARY_TURRET_ARRAY}No Research Lab = No RE = No one to research artifacts. Artifacts must be researchd by the RE before they can be used. Unless the SC has changed this too TTFN[ 11-27-2001: Message edited by: Gallion ]
Guest Melanie650 Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 Hmmm. I seem to be getting conflicting answers. Does anyone know if every ship out there can use all the artifacts?
Guest Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 I hope he has Gallion. Im trying to get funds to get the PAD on my Questar. If it works i'll tell ya. The appendix does say that you need an RE to use the artifacts.. but it erred when it said my RE needed 85% AI to make it work.. I had just started the game with my BCmk2 and had mined my 4 drones to the brim, bought the PAD, launched, inmediately decoupled the main gun and fired. The PAD worked instantly, and my RE does not have 85% AI Will keep you posted when my shuttles finish mining and ill buy the dang thing
Tyrn Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 Seems like it was a discussion alongs these very lines that was my first introduction to these forums.Facts in the BC3K world: [*]RE has to have a certain AI level to research any given artifact. [*]Certain other officers also have to reach a given level for specific artifacts to function. [*]All artifacts, regardless of your crew's AI levels function to some degree. Here is an example of the net result: JAC requires that the RE and CE have set levels of AI to function properly, my crew were still floating somewhere in the produce aisles. While JAC tries to repair everything in site, he fails rather regularly and locks out the SE's even though he's failing at his job. Solution: Store JAC in a shuttle and take him for a ride when he acts this way until the RE and CE can be classified as animal and not vegetable life forms. My guess is that BCM artifacts function much the same way and that ships without RE will see even more problems with artifacts if they'll even work at all.

You missed the post where I said that artifacts that are system upgrades don't need to be analyzed.
Guest Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 Yeh, perhaps because I dont read every post in all the forums every day Anyway, it works. That PAD on me Questar rocks. I can kill any starstation easily with it.. just fire from looong range and wait.
Cmdr Nova Posted November 27, 2001 Report Posted November 27, 2001 Yeah, I know. I already have all the upgrade-based Artifacts.... It's cool. I still have yet to go to New America, though. Bunnies beware.
Urza Posted November 28, 2001 Report Posted November 28, 2001 Do you need to analyze artifacts that "just work" by sitting in the cargo bay?
Tyrn Posted November 28, 2001 Report Posted November 28, 2001 quote:Originally posted by Urza: Do you need to analyze artifacts that "just work" by sitting in the cargo bay?Yup, the Celestial Orb only partially works if it isn't analyzed.
Urza Posted November 28, 2001 Report Posted November 28, 2001 I just unloaded 5 million on artifacts. So, what do you mean, "partally works"? My RE isn't smart enough to analyze anything, but when she is, does she just start analyzing things or do you have to tell her to?And I thought you didn't have to analyze upgrade artifacts. I just bought a TA shield, but it doesn't appear on the upgrade list, and my RE isn't giving me any feedback.

Is it in a shuttle cargo hold as is won't show up as an upgrade option if it is. Things that just "sit there" like the Orb or JAC, as quick examples, will not function properly until the RE has sufficient AI to analyze them completely. IF the RE is smart enough to analyze the item, you won't have any need to give the order to do so.
Meldan Posted November 28, 2001 Report Posted November 28, 2001 This is one of the minor gripes I have. The artifacts appendix says that the Celestial Orb reguires nothing, it just works. When you look at the crew appendix, it lists what is needed to get the Celestial Orb to work (RE having sufficent AI). I just think that the artifact section should list the AI needed for all the artifacts, not just some of them. I don't know about the Celestial Orb having a reduced effect when it is not analyzed. I have one that is not analyzed (RE AI is 22) and I can't tell any difference that it is making. I'm not saying there isn't one, just not one that I notice.

As long as you have it in your cargo bay and the RE has analzed it, well, it just works.

Having trod that path once I can tell you that while it ended well, it just wasn't a pretty sight. The information given out by the SC in the manuals and appendices requires, note the word requires, that you exert a deal of effort to put the pieces together. In short, the docs are not walk throughs, they are actually documents that you need to research to find the answers you're after. You also need to know that the docs do not have all the answers, just like real world docs don't have all the ansers for real world situations.[ 11-28-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
Soback Posted November 28, 2001 Report Posted November 28, 2001 A spoon. What do you require to use a spoon? Nothing, but you still need to be smart enough to know from which end to pick it up.
