Scrivener Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 I just got out of a preview of the new movie about the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. I'm not really supposed to talk about it but by the time it finally gets released it is going to be one of the most influential films of this century. The whole film is in aramaic without any kind of translation (No subtitles), and it makes you feel like you're *there.* It's very sad and disturbing, and I garauntee noone will walk out with dry eyes.
Eclipse Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Odd I would have thought it would be in Greek or possibly Hebrew instead of aramaic considering the time period.
d8alus Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Probably means I won't ever watch it, considering I don't speak anything but English.
Supreme Cmdr Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Is that the movie that Mel Gibson directed? Anyway, if its in Aramaic, I'm there - ave been meaning to brush up on that since I'm sick of speaking geek.
Bandus Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I agree, with respect, it's not going to be very influential until it's translated. Even the Bible was translated. I can gurantee it won't be influencing me, especially if I can't understand it.

I spent three years watching TV in Japanese and more than ten years in Italy. I'm terrible at languages but managed to "understand" and be moved by much of what I saw. Imagery can be a powerful tool in and of itself.
Guest Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 The Books is better (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Guest Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 And so is the Book. (Too much sinus medicine combined with too little headache)
