Guest $iLk Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 It's definitely not about generosity brought about by reaching in someone else's pocket. I've been in minimum wage jobs, and I've been in a nice job for the past few months... not once have I complained about someone making more than me. I've always been content wherever I was knowing that I was there through my own effort - not by leeching off of someone else's. Even last year when I lost my own job - guess who wasn't filing out an unemployment claim. I started doing yard work, housework, etc. to make ends meet until I got another job. People don't have values anymore... and they won't until they are raised with the expectation that something is expected of them in return for what they receive.

That's what I think. Why not? In fact, consider it getting some back what many consider a handout. quote:$ilk I've been in a nice job for the past few months... not once have I complained about someone making more than me. The tall handsome guy or the fast talker that walks around with papers in her hand just to look busy ALWAYS get all the credit. Sigh, just a general rant. Not trying to pull this thread off topic. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Did I say 5 years? They are a bit faster on the uptake then I thought. internet sales tax. It's their money and they want it... Yeah Alabama has had a use tax for years. If you bought something thru a catalog (now conceivably the internet) out of state you were supposed to add that up and pay ALabama sales tax on out of state purchases. They may not have called it sales tax but it was equivalent. Really nice way to circumvent "no taxes on interstate commerce".
Guest $iLk Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 "Ummm why not? You are paying for that in your pay check look at your paystub under Unemployment Insurance." I don't have that deduction on any of my paychecks... *shrug* Might be my exemptions? The only deductions I have are Medicare and SSI along with Federal and State.

Guest Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Yes, your emplyer pays your unemployment insurance, it's around 7% of your gross. So unemployment insurance is just that, insurance, it is paid for, and is NOT a handout of any sort. I have collected unemployment many times, and have no trouble with it, it is welfare and all the other socalled benefits that I refuse to have anything to do with.
