I thought that this was powerful enough to post here.

quote:

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war. My

husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in

the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good

explanation.

My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our

front living room window. He said "Son, stand there and tell me what you

see?"

"I see trees and cars and our neighbor's houses." he replied.

"OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United

States of America and you are President Bush."

Our son giggled and said "OK."

"Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that every house and

yard on this block is a different country" my husband said.

"OK Dad, I'm pretending."

"Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and pretend you see

Saddam come out of his house with his wife, he has her by the hair and is

hitting her. You see her bleeding and crying. He hits her in the face, he

throws her on the ground, then he starts to kick her to death. Their

children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are screaming and crying,

they are watching this but do nothing because they are kids and they are

afraid of their father. You see all of this, son.... what do you do?"

"Dad?"

"What do you do son?"

"I'd call the police, Dad."

"OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations. They take your call.

They listen to what you know and saw but they refuse to help. What do you do

then son?"

"Dad.......... but the police are supposed to help!" My son starts to whine.

"They don't want to son, because they say that it is not their place or your

place to get involved and that you should stay out of it," my husband says.

"But Dad... he killed her!!" my son exclaims.

"I know he did... but the police tell you to stay out of it. Now I want you

to look out that window and pretend you see our neighbor who you're

pretending is Saddam turn around and do the same thing to his children."

"Daddy... he kills them?"

"Yes son, he does. What do you do?"

"Well, if the police don't want to help, I will go and ask my next door

neighbor to help me stop him." our son says.

"Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and refuses to get

involved as well. He refuses to open the door and help you stop him," my

husband says.

"But Dad, I NEED help!!! I can't stop him by myself!!"

"WHAT DO YOU DO SON?" Our son starts to cry.

"OK, no one wants to help you, the man across the street saw you ask for

help and saw that no one would help you stop him. He stands taller and puffs

out his chest. Guess what he does next son?"

"What Daddy?"

"He walks across the street to the old ladies house and breaks down her door

and drags her out, steals all her stuff and sets her house on fire and

then... he kills her. He turns around and sees you standing in the window

and laughs at you. WHAT DO YOU DO?"

"Daddy..."

"WHAT DO YOU DO?"

Our son is crying and he looks down and he whispers, "I'd close the blinds,

Daddy."

My husband looks at our son with tears in his eyes and asks him..."Why?"

"Because Daddy..... the police are supposed to help people who needs them...

and they won't help.... You always say that neighbors are supposed to HELP

neighbors, but they won't help either... they won't help me stop him... I'm

afraid.... I can't do it by myself Daddy..... I can't look out my window and

just watch him do all these terrible things and... and..... do nothing...

so.... I'm just going to close the blinds.... so I can't see what he's

doing........ and I'm going to pretend that it is not happening."

I start to cry.

My husband looks at our nine year old son standing in the window, looking

pitiful and ashamed at his answers to my husband's questions and he

says..."Son"

"Yes, Daddy."

"Open the blinds because that man.... he's at your front door..."WHAT DO YOU DO?"

My son looks at his father, anger and defiance in his eyes. He balls up his

tiny fists and looks his father square in the eyes, without hesitation he

says: "I DEFEND MY FAMILY DAD!! I'M NOT GONNA LET HIM HURT MOMMY OR MY SISTER, DAD!!! I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM, DAD, I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM!!!!!"

I see a tear roll down my husband's cheek and he grabs our son to his chest

and hugs him tight, and says... "It's too late to fight him, he's too strong

and he's already at YOUR front door son..... you should have stopped him

BEFORE he killed his wife, and his children and the old lady across the way.

You have to do what's right, even if you have to do it alone, before it's

too late." my husband whispers.

THAT scenario I just gave you is WHY we are at war with Iraq. When good men stand by and let evil happen son, THAT is the greatest EVIL of all. Our

President is doing what is right. We, as a free nation, must understand that

this war is a war of humanity. WE must remove evil men from power so that we can continue to live in a free world where we are not afraid to look out our

window so that my nine year old son won't grow up in a world where he feels

that if he just "closes" that blinds the atrocities in the world won't affect him. "YOU MUST NEVER BE AFRAID TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT!, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALONE!" BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! BE PROUD OF OUR TROOPS!! SUPPORT THEM!!! SUPPORT AMERICA SO THAT IN THE FUTURE OUR CHILDREN WILL NEVER HAVE TO CLOSE THEIR BLINDS..."

This should be printed in every newspaper and posted in every school in

America. Of course that won't happen so we'll use the internet.

Not a bad analogy....I guess, it would be ok, if the kid wasnt being misled.

Why not tell the kid the truth, and admit, the police were trying to do their job, and the daddy, jumped the gun and killed innocent members of the family's houshold as well, in FACT more than saddam did. ?

Then give the kid an even more proper perspective, that concerning the ATTACk on the houshold PRETENDED as saddams

ADMIT you PRETENDED the reason for attacking him AND ADMIT the REASONING WAS FLAWED in the beginning, but now its ok, because of OTHER reasons, not nearly as bad as what was going on in the other houses on the block; when you ATTACKED the house of saddam, with PRETENDED reason, and before, the police could do their job.

Truly SICK to present such a distorted view of truth to their 9 year old son.

Why LIE to a child, when you know your own action was a blatant mistake?

Posted

It wasn't a lie, your view is distorted.

Sad really, but it is the truth....

Posted

Lol

How's the kid being misled when he's answering question's that his father, who is in the army (according to him) has asked?

You know nothing of that family Street, so how do you know if there misleading their child?

In other words Street, unless you know that family personally, you really have no right to comment on weather there misleading or lieing to there child or not

Quite poignant. Be sure to add that the son was told to tell the police the bad man had nuclear weapons in his basement and could open his fridge and make everyone sick.

Then when he was fully investigated there was nothing there at all.

Sorry Chavik, but you're WRONG.....

There wwere tons of Yellowcake under UN interdiction, and much of it has gone missing, BEFORE we invaded. The technology was there to build it, and Saddam was determined to have it.

He needed to be taken out, No If's, and's or but's.

You must learn from history, or be doomed to repeat it.

Bush has learned, and is determined NOT to repeat it.

What am I wrong about? Just adding to the fiction.

But I am NOT wrong. THAT story emphasized the bad man theory. NOT the wmd theory.

Tell me why this whole thing seems so fishy then.

Yeah that sound REALLY confident, and gives me great confidence as well.

Why do you ignore the most important part of that article?

yea, the most important part is this

However, members of the UN group - all non-Americans, with expertise ranging from nuclear physics to arms-control analysis - are not authorised to look at issues of health and safety arising from, for example, the misuse of the barrels.

The UN should have brought in some medical doctors for this exact reason.

They began by "OPERATIONAL WMD", passing by "WMD PROGRAMMES" and ended by "BRINGING FREEDOM TO THE IRAQUI PEOPLE".

To set the record straight, you could find all the elements needed to pursue biological WMD programmes even in the basement of the World Health Organisation or in the labs of any US university.

You are at war because less than 10 guys decided it was the way to go, including Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz & Perle, and they justified their decision based on bogus intelligence, intel who succefully convinced the Congress to support such decision.

Then, concerning the non-compliance to UN resolutions (another Bush argument), it just happen that your ally, Israel, has a record almost similar to Iraq. But that's OK, doesen't it ?

Then you go in, and instead of securing weapon depots & research complexes, the only building you protect is the Ministery of Energy. Very professional & organized.

But please, just carry on in Iraq, instead of finishing the Afghan job and having a look in other places where Al Qaida is relocating like Somalia or in the Sahara. You make a favor to quite a few countries by hurting your government funding so much. In the mean time, maybe your current administration & its angelic members could apply for the Mother Theresa prize.

Ever heard of multitasking Nomad? I don't know, Spain may be incapable of walking and chewing gum at the same time, but we do it REAL well.

Thanks for all the 20/20 hindsight, it helped a lot when we were getting all that "bogus" information 18 months ago.

If someone was robbing a 7/11 and the police came by and started negotiating with the guy, gave up and left came back tried talking to him again, only to watch as he killed a few hostages, gave up and left came back only to watch him starve a few people over the next 10 years gave up and left, simply blockaded him in so he couldn't go anywhere.. would you call that "Doing their job"?

So I guess all the millions of Kurds, political opponents, religious opponents and so forth really don't count... His sons were even more cold blooded killers than Saddam, but I'm supposed to fell sorry for these sadistic torturers?... Please give me a break!

The Guy was EVIL plain and simple, however you don't care and I'll tell you why you don't care. Because none of the millions of people that Saddam killed were Americans or Europeans, so they don't count. You see for all the Hug-A-Bear Europeans, and Pinko Commie Democrats in the U.S. there are 2 Classes of Human Beings. There's Anglo-Saxon Decendants, you know Europeans, Americans, Canadians, Australians and then there's everyone else. The people in the "Every One Else" Category don't matter, they're like Cattle, sure they were being tortured and killed by a sadistic ruler, but no one really cares because they're not "Real" Human Beings, they're Kind of like Animals, someones property, and Saddam was like their Owner, so even though it was pretty creul of Saddam to Gas, Rape, Torture, or otherwise kill these people.. er, UM Animals, since they don't really count, then what's all the fuss about? Only if we can CLEARLY show that some Anglo-Saxons were in Danger, only then we should act, and of course by WE, we mean the UN.

I always laugh when people expect anything to happen globally within a year's timeframe.

I many years did it take Japan to rebuild after WW2? What about France, England, Germany, Russia, and China? How many years did it take them to rebuild?

How much help (financally and materially) did these Nations receive from America?

Nomad, with all due respect, but the US was still supporting Europe long after 1951.

Much of this economic growth developed out of the European Recovery Program, or the Marshall Plan. The plan, announced by the United States in June 1947, provided billions of dollars to European nations to help them rebuild their economies. By 1959, the United States had spent more than $74 billion in aid. (approx. $569 billion value, current USD, by your calculations)

Still, all facts are relative to the person(s) disseminating them, so I reserve my privilege to remain skeptical, when people claim to know "the facts".

After 1951, a significant part of "US help" was devoted to contain communism, another part was loan guarantees allowing european ventures to buy US goods (in other words indirect subventions to the US economy), and effectively there was a few billion allocated to countries who weren't performing economically as well as Germany, France, Italy or the UK.

To me this is a contradiction in terms. Either the US helped Europe, or we didn't.

Which is it?

..and I never said, nor did that link state that the Marshall plan extended beyond when you claim it ended. Are you saying that US aid to Europe ended in 1951?

Wah and boohoo, and I am supposed to care, why exactly?

I tire of the whining coming from the international community because we are defending ourselves.

Most of the whining has NOTHING to do with what we are doing, but that A: We didn't get their permission after ANOTHER resolution, even though the last one spoke of deadlines and consequences and B: didn't pay them off first.

France Germany and Russia ALL had HUGE contracts with Saddam, and if we had slapped a few dollars in their hands to make up for those lost contracts, they wouldn't be whining.

They can whine all they want, I couldn't give a flying leap.

I tire of the international community whining about what we do, and then decide that since they can't whine about what they are ACTUALLY whining about, create conpiracy theories to prove that what we are doing is somehow wrong.

I don't care about the international community and their little whiners, and if they can't handle my nonPC type of thinking, well too fricking bad.

Without offense, Nomad, but I think your anti-American bias is showing.

When you think of "American", I believe you think only of the US Federal Government, and none of the private non-governmental American agencies, that have helped and continue to help other countries throughout the world. Most of which are funded through private, American donations.

Personally I think we should've let that cesspool rot to death and then when the smell subsided we would've rulled the earth without any of their @$^%#$. I am sick of political correctness. Was at the movies one time, some kid was kicking my chair, I turn around, look at the parent and tell him. "Hey buddy, your kid is kicking my chair" His response "Tough luck" he had a heavy accent, from another country (wont say which), I blew my lid "You f.ing uneducated, ignorant sob, why don't you teach your kids some manners on how to behave in public and have respect for others, etc." When I was growing up, if there's an elderly person on the bus, or anywhere else, you get up and give them your seat, open doors for women, speak to people politely, now look at what's going on. Most of that comes from other people who immigrate here from other countries and bring their disrespect for others with them and think they can behave here the same way. Don't believe me? Read the letters on educating children on how it was done in the old times, www.donnayoung.org

That's exactly why we are at war in Iraq, to make US (take it as United States or us) stronger, other countries don't like it because they can't compete, plain simple. Well, then shut up and sit down, go back to your little eurean intertangled politicizing, we'll go and do it the old fashioned way.

Help them, they thank you for a couple of decades and then start mouthing off and biting the hand that fed them from the brink of hunger, when is it time to put the dog that bites the hand that feeds it to sleep?

Nomad, as for allocating a bigger pie of time to a specific task. The only bigger pie of time Europe has allocated to something in the last deacade was vacation and sleep.

How, monetarily? Yeah, right, militarily? Yeah, right, how could Europe and NATO helped us?

We didn't refuse the offer, we nicely said thank you, but there isn't anything that you can do.
