LostInSpace Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Wasn't sure where to post this but since it deals with politicians and taxes it seems like it belongs here. The Spanish-American War may have ended over a century ago, but anyone in the U.S. with a telephone line is paying a 3 percent "luxury" tax created to fund the conflict in 1898. Makes ya wonder what other excise taxes we are still paying for. The civil war perhaps? Also, how much money did they expect to haul in with that. Didn't think there were that many phones in 1898.

Guest Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 The excise tax on tires, there are THOUSANDS of taxes that were for SPECIFIC purposes, that did not ever get taken off the books. BUT, whenever a taxcut comes up, it ALWAYS has a sunset clause... Imagine that?
